I should have made a note of the channels but generally, there are three Princess channels, one for ship's programming (CD's morning talk, port talks, lectures, etc.), one with the ship's cam, and one with the ship's stats (sea conditions, speed, etc. which is mostly a music channel); there are at least two movie channels, one offering "romance" and one offering more current movies; there is a "Discovery" channel which broadcasts a mix of Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, The Learning Channel, etc.; and there are news channels. On my cruise last September, we also had ESPN for a few days. The news channels are not always available and can vary by channel, depending on where you're cruising. I've seen BBC, CNN Headline News, CNN International, CNN (Atlanta), Fox News, etc. You will rarely see CNN (Atlanta) or Fox News, as they totally depend on where you're cruising. I may be missing a channel or two but this is what I remember.

I looked in my folder and discovered I did have the channel guide. I tried 3x to scan it but it just was too faint. But here goes anyway:

Princess Channel (Channel 21)

Sapphire Channel (Channel 22)

Movie Channel (Channel 23)

Discovery Channel (Channel 24)

TNT (Channel 25)

ESPN (Channel 26)

CNN (Channel 27)

Turner Classic Movies (Channel 28)

CNN Headline News (Channel 29)

Family Channel (Channel 30)

Cartoon Network/Boomerang (Channel 31 and 32)

And, you will get to watch "MY Big Fat Greek Wedding" for the umpteenth time!!

Yeah, what is it with that movie and Princess ships? LOL

I wish Princess had FOX news like they do on Royal Caribbean. ;)

CNN's biased reports get old fast

Last year on the Sapphire, they showed a marathon of LOVE BOAT! :D Those were so long ago, it was just a hoot to watch!

They are still on the Emerald right now, but just on disembarkation morning, so I think most passengers don't see them.

Add to My Big Fat Greek Wedding: An Affair to Remember, The Blind Side, Inside the Actors Studio with 1.)Angelina Jolie, 2.) Kate Winslet 3.) Tom Hanks and 4.) Hugh Jackman. The latter three actors who I really do enjoy; I'm just kind of sick of them right now.

Also Behind Palace Doors (or something like that) about the inner workings of Britain's Royal Family. I actually really did enjoy that, even multiple times.

I agree with you completely. I've been on a couple of Princess cruises that had Fox News and no CNN. Actually, on the cruise, it started out with CNN and no Fox News, then Fox News and no CNN for several days, then both, then just CNN. A CD on a cruise once explained, when asked, that Fox does not pay to be carried on all media satellites so it's probably a combination of distribution choices Fox makes and the satellite.

We cruised last July Alaska SB, and after thinking about it, I really couldn't tell you what was available on the TV. I think it worked, but I'm not 100% sure.

Checked with hubby and he said there were 12 stations all about the boat, what was available that day, port info, and the front cam, etc.

We had Fox News on our December cruise on the Golden. Drove me up the wall so much that I kept switching to the BBC news. I couldn't find a written log of the different channels on this cruise (that drove me up the wall too -- there was one channel that had a scrawl of the various channels and sometimes it was hard to figure out what was actually on at the time).

This was what I wrote on my travel blog about the programming on the in-cabin TV:

There are now flat screen TVs in the cabins. I couldn’t find a TV log in the information book in the cabin (on our last cruise, there was a card that listed the day by day programming on the entertainment channels, which made it easy to tell what was on). Instead, there was a channel that scrolled through the different entertainment channels. Both the girl and I found it hard to figure out what was on at what time. Not to mention as time consuming. On the in-cabin TV:

Besides the “from the bridge” channel (which rotated among the captain’s log, the navigator’s log, the weather info), the bridge cam channel, Fox News, CNBC, MSNBC, BBC World News, ESPN, there were programmed channels split among topics:

Art (shows and movies about art, How to Steal a Million, Pollack, Agony & the Ecstasy, Girl with a Pearl Earring),

Romance (movies),

Casino (demos about various games, movies such as Oceans 11, The Sting, The Cooler, Casino Royale),

Golden “TV” (sit coms such as 30 Rock, The Office {the US version}q, Three and a Half Men, Everyone Loves Raymond, Inside the Actor’s Studio),

Discovery (travel and nature),

Family Movies (How to Train Your Dragon, The Spy Next Door, The Karate Kid, Marmaduke Shrek Returns: Forever After, Toy Story 3, Despicable Me, Princess and the Frog, Ramona & Beezus, Night at the Museum, Diary of a Wimpy Kid).

Also the Leonard Maltin Movies Channel (one special that we watched was called Yoo-Hoo, Mrs. Goldberg which documented the story of one woman writer from the early days of television), and the Princess Movie Channel.

Other movies included The Ghost Writer, The Green Zone, The Bounty Hunter , My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Sabrina (the original one), Everyboy’s Fine, Invictus, 5 Minutes of Heaven, Bedtime Stories, 50 First Dates, Avatar, Blind Date, Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, You’ve got Mail, Miami Vice, It Happened in Vegas, 27 Dresses, Maverick, , The Blind Side, It’s Complicated, Ondine, Rounders, Alice in Wonderland, Eclipse, Flipped, Grown Ups, 500 Days of Summer, An Affair to Remember, Entrapment, The Imaginum of Dr. Parnassus, The Young Victoria, Shutter Island, Definitely, Maybe, When in Rome, What Woman Want, An Education, Leap year, Nine, Back Up Plan, Working Girl, Goya’s Ghosts, Julie and Julia

The BBC station also showed British shows such as The Office (the British version, of course), Fawlty Towers, and other sit coms. On one channel in the morning, the cruise director and assistant CD would put on The Wake Show. They would go through this day in history, give the answer to the trivia question of the day (apparently you can go online someplace to get the question and then submit your answer to win a prize). Then they summarize the activities and entertainment for the day.

Between the shows on the programmed channels would be Princess promos. For everything from the various martinis available to spa treatments to the special dining venues. After a day or two, you can also view video that was taped the day before for the Reflections DVD. I didn’t buy the DVD, even though I did get on it for a segment shot on the second to the last day of the cruise (more about that later).

Yes, I know many people don’t go on a cruise to watch the in-cabin TV, but I love watching movies so I usually catch some on all of my cruises. We watched parts of some movies (so I know there’s some movies I want to Netflix’ now: 50 First Days was very charming, Avatar in bits and pieces pretty confusing. Missed the beginning of Oceans 11. Caught only a bit of Blind Date. Saw a few parts of other movies that I’ve seen before: Despicable Me, Toy Store 3, Alice in Wonderland, Working Girl, Julie and Julia.

We really enjoyed The Spy next Door and The Karate Kid (both with Jackie Chan, who I don’t think I’ve seen in a movie, but liked his performances in these), The Blind Side (I’ve seen it but hubby hadn’t, and he gave it a thumbs up).

One night, our teen came in, snuggled up with me and then starting flipping channels until she got to the Twilight movie. She watched for a short while, poking fun at it. One could say she’s on Team Twi-No.

...what channels are shown on the Tv....

Just be aware Princess contracts with a company to receive a satellite feed for most of the in room TV service. Any information about programming is valid only during that contract period. The problem is, we the public have no idea when the contract ends.

We learned this the hard way on one of our MR trips. One week of the bow cam, Princess info-commercials and Mexican soccer the ship was able to pick up with an old fashioned antenna.

Bottom line, you’ll find out for sure once you get to your cabin. Another reason to bring that laptop with a short stack of movies.

Except for the news and sports channels, all the "network" channels are not what the networks are currently bradcasting, but are a collection of reruns -- showed, thankfully, with no advertisements.

And CNN is CNN international, with relatively little USA news.

Just completed our first Princess cruise in Jan . I found the tv channels to be far superior compared to the other 2 lines we have sailed . I liked that Princess played 3 different movies everyday . As far as the channels (besides the movie channels ) they seemed to switch around . I would be watching TNT and take a shower and come back and it would have turned into a kids station or Discovery . I don't cruise for tv lord knows I watch too much but I enjoyed Princess' programming much more than other lines . I , however , am still trying to find something I didn't enjoy more than the other lines ! lol Ted

Never really depend on what the ship will show. They always do have a news channel. But it depends and never the same. Do like it when Princess has TCM. We like old movies.

I do think they can lose My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Nice movie, but really have seen it enough times. Our last cruise they did not have much of anything on. My folks who did the same cruise a month later had the same complaint.

What kind of music on the music channels? Debating about bringing a portable CD player onboard with a few of our favorite CD's. We like jazz, the oldies, standards. Not pop, hip hop stuff:D Should I bring my own music?
Bring your own music. While not quite elevator music, nor hip-hop, it won't be jazz, oldies, etc. I bring my iPod and a small, portable speaker.

Just finished a partial canal cruise on Jan 23rd. Grabbed a couple of pictures of the TV Guide. I combined them into one so the bottom is a bit fuzzy but you will see the channels offered on the Coral.
