Changing clothes after dinner?

Recommended Posts

Do most people change their dinner clothes into more casual clothes for the evening? I was going to wear whatever I wore to dinner for the evening, but I've seen a few posts where people change after dinner. I can see changing into something more casual after the formal dinner nights, but do people change back into shorts in the evening?

I say do whatever you are comfortable with. I have done both ways.

Depends on what I'm wearing and what I plan to do after dinner. If I wore a dress to dinner chances are I may change into capris or pants unless the dress works for the nightclub or whatever else we are doing.

But, I say go with what makes you comfy.

I never noticed it, everyone looked dressed up all the evening on formal and smart evenings, I think they would stick out tbh if they had changed, well around the bar entertainment area anyway. But then again, I expect is could differ on each ship.

We usually change after dinner.....or after going to the show. We typically spend an hour or so in the casino, and don't want to get our evening clothes all smoky! (that's one major downfall with RCCL....allowing smoking in the casino).

We always change clothes because we pack and plan on each evening's outfit to stay fresh for 2 nights.

You will see anything from shorts to jeans to work-out clothes to formal dress after. While in the theater wear what you are comfortable in. It's YOUR vacation to do what you feel is acceptable.

I never change my clothes after dinner. I don't want to waste time going back to the cabin to do all that. I'm off and running right after dinner either going to a show, or gambling in the casino.

We usually try to do a few of the pictures that they set up for on those nights then we change into something else. It's fun to get a nice picture because most guys don't want to dress up for any length of time.

I think the OP is aware that that it's his/her vacation, and that he/she has the right to choose whatever they want to wear. The question was what do others do.

I agree that if you are wearing your dinner clothes more than once, and you want to spend time in the casino in the evening, you should change. I find that most women wear long pants or dresses in the casino in the evening, and most men a buttoned or polo shirt with long pants. In the theater a majority of people look like they are wearing what they wore to dinner.

A majority of people in the evening do not wear shorts around the ship. Some do, but the majority wear clothes to suit an evening out: dresses, long pants. Very few jackets or suits on men around the ship in the evening. You see the shorts up in the Windjammer mostly, and the pool bar.

No, we don't change after dinner. On formal nights I spend quite a bit of time getting ready, and I want to stay looking nice the whole night. Also, my dinner clothes are usually dresses that I feel pretty in. I don't want to change back into casual clothes.

99% of the time we will change into casual clothes (jeans with a sweater/sweatshirt) after dinner. This is primarily because I get cold on the ship in the evening so I wear light layers and long pants. I'm more comfortable wearing jeans around the ship in the evening instead of my "good" clothes (which is usually pulled from my work wardrobe).

I say a good amount of people are in casual clothes after dinner but it will vary a little depending on the ship and what activities you are participating in.

I definitely change clothes. When I'm on vacation, I want as casual and laid back as possible. If I wanted to be 'dressed' constantly, I'd be going to New York to the symphony and theatre. No thanks... I want comfy on my cruise.

I change RIGHT into my bathing suit.

If we aren't heading to the show, I change into my swimsuit and go sit in the hot tub!!!

The theatre is usually warm, and I am always so full that I do tend to change if I have the time.

You won't stick out either way!!!

i change as soon as i can. i'm on vacation. heck with "dress up"

Yeah, I don't like to play dress-up either. If we get out of early dinner soon enough, we always change before going to the shows. I also think suits and ties make no sense for eating dinner, I don't know who came up with that idea.:D

We sometimes stay dressed up, but mostly change clothes after dinner - judging from the after dinner venues we've been to, I'd say about half the people we see are still in formal clothes, and the other half are not.

Do whatever is appropriate for the level of comfort you want and the places you want to go after dinner. For us, dancing in one of the live music venues after dinner is fun in formal clothes, but taking a moonlit walk around the top deck is better in casual clothes!

Thanks for all the advice and opinions.

I imagine DS will definitely change from slacks to shorts after dinner, but he's 12 and if he didn't, I'd worry! DD is 16, so I don't know what she'll be thinking, as it changes from hour to hour. DH and I will probably stay in in our dinner clothes, unless we're going to the pool. I'm only bringing one suitcase, so this helps a lot. Thanks!
