Will I be bored on the Celebrity sea days?

My wife and I took a ten day eastern med. cruise last year with no sea days at all. We had a great time but were worn out by the time it was over. An extra night in Venice helped, but then came the 11 hour flight home. My wife absolutely loves sea days, reading her Kindle, and relaxing. So I booked an TA on the Silhouette in October. Six 25 hour sea days. Will we be bored? Don't think so! :D

Thanks! How does it work??

Hi, The Chef's Challenge? It is an event that is usually held in the

Celebrity Theater and 2 Chefs are on stage with 2 passengers as their

assistants......they are each making a different dish. 3 judges get to

taste everything. It is alot of fun:) (well, it was for me anyway:D).

We voted on taste, originality and presentation. The audience had

fun as well.

If you want to participate? I would find the Cruise Director and speak

with them about it.:)

Anyone have a link or picture to a daily program ? this might help the op decide ?

Click here for a scan of the daily schedules from our 12 night holiday cruise in December 2009 with 6 sea days on the then oldest and smallest ship in the fleet. There was plenty to do (or ignore) every day (besides relaxing on deck or our balcony watching the waves).

I was on the Eclipse TA last Oct and I was bored. It was the first time in 20+ cruises that I could ever say that.

I usually enjoy the Trivia but there was no sense in even playing. One passenger who cruises every other week knew all of the answers and won every game. He was seated at the table next to us and had two of the cruise staff at his table one night. They were even laughing about the rest of us 'poor schnooks'(my words) not being able to win.

The afternoon entertainment were enrichment talks on the giant Squid and other equally boring subjects. My friend who had done the TA on another celeb ship the previous year was just as unhappy with the cruise as my group. She said they had a lot more variety than the Eclipse.

The whole ship had a cold feel to it. We are Elite and only went to the Elite gathering once. It was so noisy and crowded we opted for the Martini Bar for our evening cocktails.

One night in Michael's Club we were wondering if the rest of the folks were actually alive or stuffed.

To call the cruise sedate is an understatement. And we are not kids... I am 69 and DH 84 but we aren't dead yet. I enjoyed my other cruises on Celeb and was sure DH would love his first time on Celeb.....wrong!

I hope it was just this particular cruise that was so bad as I really would like to sail Celeb again just not on the Eclipse!

If I experienced this, I think I would say something about their behavior.

I am glad you had somewhat the same experience as we had on the Constellation. We felt like it was a graveyard cruise :D and we are 49 and 53 :)

We did 2 Celeb cruises, and decided it is not for us.

I was on the SAME Constellation cruise as Jacky and her husband Ron, and I had a fabulous time; so much so that I am booked in the same cabin for the same cruise this year. Oh yes, I am 60 years old.

There will always be folks who love a cruise while others simply abhor it. Take each comment as just that; a comment. You will have to determine, for yourself, is a ships' ambience suits you.

Re the OP's reference to the ship seeming empty even though full -- that is a wonderful thing on a ship. DH & I (he was a cruiseship musician on another line) love the fact that the passenger/crew ratio is great and that the ship doesn't seem crowded. Never bored onboard.

Just got off a transatlantic cruise with 7 sea days. I have never seen a cruise where all the activities were so full. Every night show you had to go 45 minutes early to get a seat. All the lounges were full with people dancing until well past midnight. Ballroom and line dancing classes were packed. Night headliners were featured at encore presentations in the afternoon. They had the best wine tasting seminars we have ever gone to. A lot of cruise employees participation activities like bocce contests and gambling games with passengers. Daily lectures, special luncheons. Would definitely do a transatlantic again

We were on the same Eclipse TA, and our experience was quite different. Admittedly I was not impressed with the giant Squid talks, and we didn't go to the individual trivia. The team trivia was very well run, and had questions that were not the usual cruise ship ones, so frequent cruisers had no advantage. We loved the Celebrity choir, even DH joined and he has no musical experience at all. The talks on the Titanic were amazing and very well attended. The only reason we are not doing the Eclipse TA again is that we didn't like sailing from Southampton, although we always spend time in UK before a TA. This year we are doing the Solstice TA from Barcelona.

I love sea days because the sea is in my blood. Right now I have the opposite concern. We are taking a cruise tour package to Alaska next month and I am so NOT looking forward to the land portion of the trip where we will be staying at six different hotels for the first six nights of the trip. That is not my idea of a vacation but I am looking forward to the cruise from Seward to Vancouver.

I've been on two Celebrity cruises recently and I didn't feel like it was a grave yard cruise. I actually liked it and I'm quite young (only 22). I found other people my age too, okay not many but they were around. I went during the off times too (not during the holidays).

I found that Celebrity has the best perks. I really enjoyed the morning Michael's Club, it was actually a surprise how nice it was. There was free internet too, which I enjoyed. I'm an elite member. While I don't drink, I enjoyed the daily cocktail parties at night. I didn't like the smoke in the lounge at the front of the ship on deck 14, sorry I forgot the name since it's been a year a half since my last cruise. There was a nice group of people to talk to from all over the world. There was a special tea party (forgot the name) at the end with violins playing and they served you sooooo much food.

I really liked that the casino was smoke free. I don't like playing a lot because I don't like losing money but I played twice. I liked the healthy eating area near the adult pool, but some dishes were kind of weird. The healthy breakfast was very good, huge slices of watermelon, cantaloupe, and pineapple. The yogurt parfaits were amazing but I couldn't finish them.

I really loved the no announcements, I hate when you are on Carnival or Royal Caribbean and they announce art auction or bingo a hundred times. I don't like being given the hard sell on a cruise. The main part I like is the no smoking and none allowed on the balconies. That was great. I remember being on Carnival and rooms would smell like smoke as we first went in them. I can't remember exactly what I did but I was never bored on a sea day. I don't like being around the younger crowd, they party too much and drink. I don't party late at night.

From my experience, I've had some bad neighbors on Carnival especially in the suites. Royal Caribbean was not as bad, but I get tired of the rock wall or flowrider. It's like once you've done it once, it's not that interesting anymore. Also, I've been hurt climbing up the rock wall. I skinned my knee and I saw people hurt on the flowrider. It hurts when you fall the wrong way on the flowrider.

I'm a vegetarian and very picky eater. I've always found something yummy to eat at the buffet. From what I remember, the food was much better on Celebrity than Royal Caribbean. It was too much food for me though, I don't eat much. I imagine cruise ships have lots of food that goes to waste. I don't remember ever being hungry on the cruise. Okay, maybe once. I eat very healthy. For dinner I usually would get spaghetti, the pasta dish without meat, or the vegetarian dish.

I am considering a cruise on the Constellation this coming February. I have sailed Princess 9 times and I do like the daytime activities on sea days. I recently read a troubling comment about the lack of daytime activities on Celebrity. Here is the comment: “Celebrity was downright sedate and it seemed like the ship was half empty even though I know it was sold out. It was very, very quiet. . . . I'm not a party person at all, but it just seemed like there was more activity on Princess.”

The cruise I am considering is for 14 nights and has 5 sea days. Will I be bored on the Celebrity sea days?

Maybe you should check out a resort.

In some ways, I think the passengers on a particular cruise are more important than its organized activities in creating the ship's ambiance. Some are happy cruises filled with energetic passengers who usually have a smile on their face. Others are filled with grouchy passengers who always looked bored. Moods have a tendency to be very contagious so the feeling aboard the same ship can vary tremendously from cruise to cruise.

I think the mood of the staff is very important. On our winter Millenium cruises, the staff was the best I have ever seen. They really set the tone and made everyone feel special.

I have been on other Celebrity cruises where the staff left an awful lot to be desired (to put it politely!)

Back to the main topic. I think I would be bored with too many consecutive seadays. Like others have said, after port days, a seaday is very enjoyable. But after too many seadays (and no bridge!), I think I would get bored. (and I really don't think I am such a boring person!!)

I don't care for most of the activities, e.g. trivia, bingo, casino. I don't think I would like to go to more cooking demonstations or flower arranging demonstations. There are only so many massages I can take. And although I am a reader, I don't want to read, read, read!

I'm absolutely with you on that one. We tended to find that the "unhappys" congregated in particular parts of the ship, so we avoided the gloomy spots and had a great time on sea days.

I can't remember being bored in 4 sea days last year on Celeb, although OH and I are usually happy listening to some of the live music, reading, skipping through the music on the cabin tv (playing "do you remember when...?"), going to the occasional lecture and loitering around the ship chatting to people. There are still bits of the Eclipse that we didn't manage to explore last year, so we must have found plenty to do.

Can't stop cruising, there has also been a void for me on sea days since Celebrity eliminated its bridge program. Not only did I enjoy their morning lessons and afternoon games during sea days, but met a lot of wonderful people in the process. On one of our cruises a group of four couples, who had met through the bridge program, also played together at other times during the cruise. On the last day of the cruise, when someone from that group took a trick with the two of clubs, he smiled and said the Bar Mitzvah Boy does it every time. I thought that was such an adorable way to comment about the power of the 13th card in a suit. Even though we had been playing bridge together for two weeks that was the first time we realized that all eight of us were Jewish.

Jacky, Jacky, Jacky! I hope you are refering to the ship itself and not your fellow passengers.:D

(P.S. - I'm not ready for the graveyard yet!)
