Brad Olson was Staff Captain on Freedom about a year ago. Would he be the one now on Jewel?

We are cruising Grandeur on 11/16/2013 and curious as who will be the captain and CD.

Cruised on May 5 (just before the fire) and had a great time. Thanks for any help.

I read a lot of the reviews, many times people will mention who the captain was. People would post that the captain started when they got on and from there all you have to do is count 10 weeks, on average. A few masters (like Faevelen) like 11 week rotations. I have to be patient when a master gets assigned to another ship (which they do every 3-5 years), need people to post who their master was so I can keep up.

Olav retired to West Virginia. He was showing pictures at the C&A party in July. He said that he may fill in now and then, if needed. Definitely the best captain I came across at RCI.

 

Going to miss Capt Olav. Wish him the best in his retirement.

What ship was Captain MacDonald on previously? Any opinions of him as a Captain? Just curious. We will be on the Explorer in Dec. I will certainly miss Capt. Olav. Such a nice person. Of course Capt. Loy is very easy on the eyes.........;) and nice too.

Sounds like Captain Johnny will be back by then. We just love him. He has been on several ships we were on, and was on our first Allure saling. We had the other captain this spring, but Captain Johnny is our favorite...Look for his motorcycle parked on Deck 2 when you go ashore.

Thanks for the info. I have summarize that RCCL captains rotate on a regular basis of 11 weeks even though for some this length might differ. Also, that captains are assigned to a ship from 3 to five years. This makes sense!

 

During our May 3 cruise to Bermuda our captain was Espen Been and in as much as you have mentioned that his rotation started in September it seems as he will be in GOTS for the 11/16 cruise.

Anyway, Capt Espen returned either 9-4, or 9-5, or 9-6 not sure which day. So 11-16 may be a rotation day and you could have Capt Trond Holm instead.

I wrote it down as she said it. I found the timing to be unusual, too. I do have her return date written down when you are ready for it but as we know, this far out anything can change, even ships, but that isn't the plan.

I guess this is as good a place as any to say how much we love Captain Trym Selvag...We have sailed with him on an Alaska 2010 cruise and just recently on the Oasis Oct 5th...What a great guy, and after 16 cruises with RCI he is the most memorable we've had by far.
