phabric Posted August 7, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2011 I enjoyed looking at the toys in Harrods. I have heard there is another toy store in London. Anybody know the name of it and where it is?

Schplinky Posted August 8, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 8, 2011 I just saw Hamley's listed in a show last night as one of the largest toy stores in the world.

RetiredMustang Posted August 9, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 9, 2011 Hamley's, 188-196 Regent St. www.hamleys.com This thread brought back memories more than a quarter-century old, when we lived in London, and our sons were small. In December we would take them to Selfridges to see Father Christmas, and another day walk down Regent St. past Liberty's to Hamley's and spend hours, the boys thrilled by the several floors of toys, and us thrilled with their reactions. Thank you. Hmmm, we will be in London in less than two weeks. Hadn't thought about it, but we may pop in (even though our "boys" are in their 30s and won't be with us). Skarloey At Large Posted August 20, 2011 #10 Share Posted August 20, 2011 Hamley's isn't what it was when I was a boy. Yes - it's huge. But it is full of tourists, and things flying through the air. It is both hot and noisy. As for their prices? Stratospheric. Avoid the place like the plague. It's almost as bad as the emporium belonging to the phony pharaoh - Mohammed al Fayed. Al Fayed sold Harrods over a year ago! And Hamley's is fun to look around!

I can think of more expensive toy stores around London - and you are out of date, al Fayed doesn't own it any more.
Bob++ Posted August 30, 2011 #14 Share Posted August 30, 2011 For something different try Pollocks in Covent Garden. http://www.pollocks-coventgarden.co.uk/index.php/specialist-items.html
Sauer-kraut Posted August 30, 2011 #15 Share Posted August 30, 2011 Wow! I just spent 20 minutes browsing Pollocks website, what wonderful things! Too bad I don't have a London trip any time soon.
