Please stay safe. c Hope you survived it well!! We are in the midst of it right now. Ocean water is already coming over the boardwalk. I think the worst for us is yet to come. Wish you had sent Irene out to sea instead!!

cbb Posted August 28, 2011 Author #6 Share Posted August 28, 2011 JimandStan, we lived just north of Danbury for a year and I discovered that winter storms are named just as hurricanes are. We went through 3 the one year we lived there!
Rare PaulMCO Posted August 28, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 28, 2011 Stay safe all. These ladies are mean an nasty. We learned from Francis, Jeanne and Wilma that it not just the wind speed but these ladies were slow movers and gave us a 24 hour visit that cause the most damage. BillPizzaiolo Posted August 28, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 28, 2011 We were fortunate enough getting home with a day to get ready. Our plane was the last Lufthansa plane in to Newark and back out again. After that Lufthansa stopped all flights. Good thing we didn't extend our cruise in Rome as many did for an extra day. Other wise we would be there for an extended stay waiting for the airlines to catch up. We lost a week in Italy due to a similar fate because of the volcano in Iceland. We did make the ship. Right now it looks like we are in a house on an island in a lake. JCP&L knock wood is keeping us with enough electricity to be comfortable and dry. I don't want to wade out to the garage to fire up the generator. Stay safe, stay dry, cruise on. Bill

pacmom Posted August 28, 2011 #10 Share Posted August 28, 2011 Bill, glad you made it home safely before all the cancellations. As we sat in the lounge waiting for our flight to Atlanta o Sat., there were people scrambling to get just about anyplace east of the Mississippi. Atlanta airport was a zoo with all the stranded folks. Are you going on the Black Sea cruise in Aug. of next year? Someone said you were. We are as are another couple we met on board. Stay safe. Mura Posted August 28, 2011 #11 Share Posted August 28, 2011 Here in Brooklyn Heights nothing happened ... a little rain, a little wind -- I should say a little occasional wind. I guess Irene lost her map. We're right on top of NY Harbor.

Pat Hi Pat, We signed up for the Athens to Istanbul October 2012. Not much damage here in our part of NJ. We got lots of leaves in the pool a few branches all around and a little flooding that has receded by now. Toms river is still in flood stage here in Jackson. It usually doesn't hurt anyone since we have a ban on building in the flood plain. Who knows, if things open up, we might sign on for another cruise before Oct 2012.
