Regent has no problem with you boarding at a different port -- but, as said above, you do have to pay for the full cruise.

You are mostly correct tc but, the OP needs to be careful to not want to embark or disembark at a tender port. Also, should conditions occur that cause the ship to miss that port, the OP would have to find their way to a subsequent port for boarding thus losing more cruise time and increasing the cost.

Does your cruise go directly from Athens to Istanbul overnight? That's a bit unusual. If so, no reason not to do this, although you are responsible totally for making this work. If it's not overnight, then you'd miss a whole day on the ship, which to me wouldn't make up for missing the hassles of Athens.

always look at another cruiselines which start in Istanbul,,,none offered by Regent,,,both Silverseas and Seabourn have them...

Oh well,,,they re 9 and 7 day...and really not wanting extra days in Istanbul before,,thinking of possible Cappadocia extention,,but may be too much with cave hotel, underground city,,etc...will look into other options.

Thanks for prompt replies...:)

As you probably know, Regent has several itineraries starting or ending in Istanbul -- just not the Black Sea. We're doing one in April Istanbul to Venice) with Regent's Cappadocia extension. Cappadocia is more interesting than the ports on the cruise:confused: Based on photographs, Cappadocia is the most unique place we have seen.

I don't know when you're planning to cruise, but we are doing a Regent cruise from Istanbul to Venice on the Mariner, in Oct 2012. I don't know if that is the only sailing out of Istanbul in 2012 for Regent or not.

they ll have different starting port,,,as far as Cappadocia,,let us know Travel Cat,,,looks interesting on video I saw on Tourism site,,but the underground caves,hotel,,etc..would be a turnoff for me,,I m very claustrophobic. But the balloon flights look great..Just getting too old for physically challenging climbs on rocky, steep trails..boo hoo.So let us know??Leave in 6 wks for Mariner East Carib.cruise..yeah....then decided to finalize river cruise on Ama in May from Prague to Budapest...that takes care of next 2 cruises,at least...:D

Alexandra cruiser, we went to Cappadocia as part of a land trip earlier this year. Absolutely loved it. We stayed in a cave hotel in Goreme, but our room was not underground. It was very modern and totally above ground, with lots of windows and a wonderful balcony where you could see all the balloons in the morning. They did have some suites built into the sides of caves, but even those were very modern and nice. You could do pretty strenuous hiking if you wanted, but not required. We did a couple of medium length hikes, but they weren't hard at all. The cave churches are a highlight and most are right together and easy to get to. We went to one that was more remote and up a steep climb, but you could easily skip that one and still be perfectly happy. Highly recommend Cappadocia.
