mygate Posted December 12, 2011 #26 Share Posted December 12, 2011 We have received over half of our investment back with OBC and the really good thing is that the OBC is good for all the cruise lines that are under the Carnival umbrella. We have received OBC on Princess, HAL, Carnival and Costa. I send a letter from my broker comfirming my ownership to my TA and she takes care of getting it on my booking. DFD1 Posted December 12, 2011 #27 Share Posted December 12, 2011 Our experience has been that the credit goes on to our shipboard account and is credited against any charges to the account, including gratuities.
DaveOKC Posted December 12, 2011 #28 Share Posted December 12, 2011 When I read the Carnival Corporation shareholder benefit sheet:-'The benefit is not transferable and cannot be used for casino credit/charges and gratuities charged to your onboard account'. I asked the World Cruise Reservations people at HAL and they informed me that the credits are applicable towards gratuities on HAL. Any of you have experience with this? Tom I understand the casino issue (separate company) and that seems correct to me. I think the gratuities issue may be referring to those from bar tabs, etc., not the daily "service" charge. It seems to me that on our Oct. cruise the $100 stockholder credit was applied to the service charge (I noticed this when I asked for a peliminary bill half way through our cruise). This is absolutely correct. Just had it happen on my Eurodam cruise. It is simply a credit on your shipboard account.
zorrosuncle Posted December 13, 2011 #31 Share Posted December 13, 2011 Greetings -- Do you have to have it in certificate form or can you have it in a street name? Is the onboard credit a taxable event? If yoiu have 200 shares, do you get 2X the onboard credit? ZU
bet410 Posted December 13, 2011 #32 Share Posted December 13, 2011 Greetings -- If yoiu have 200 shares, do you get 2X the onboard credit? ZU There is no incentive to have any more than 100 shares of stock - at least with regard to OBC. You could have 1000 shares, and you would still get the same OBC as someone with 100 shares. Also, the OBC is awarded per room and not per person. So if you are sharing a room with someone else who also has 100 shares of CCL stock, only one of you will get the OBC. Can't answer the other questions.
RMLincoln Posted December 13, 2011 #33 Share Posted December 13, 2011 Greetings -- Do you have to have it in certificate form or can you have it in a street name? ZU All you need to show HAL (or other CCL cruise line) is a copy of a statement that has the name of one of the travelers, and that you have 100 shares. You can send a copy of the statement with your account number blacked out. There is away to show your ownership if you hold the certificates but I haven't had to do this so i'm not sure how I would exactly. I'm sure there's a way. m--

Valley Girl of VA Posted December 14, 2011 #36 Share Posted December 14, 2011 I purchased the stock this year when the market had a horrible day. I'm glad I did - received a nice little dividend, the perks and my stock has increased in value. Go for it.
DFD1 Posted December 14, 2011 #37 Share Posted December 14, 2011 Valley Girl....You could have purchased it on almost any day...because almost every day has been a horrible day for the market.....LOL, (with tears in my eyes!!!)

bet410 Posted December 14, 2011 #39 Share Posted December 14, 2011 But if you book two rooms (I did for my kids) You will get the second OBC for the second room. Very true. I was referring to the amount of OBC you would get per room. It isn't to my advantage to have more because I don't have children and wouldn't have any reason to book a second room. But that is very helpful information for people who may have reason to book more than one room! :)
canadianbear Posted December 14, 2011 #40 Share Posted December 14, 2011 But if you book two rooms (I did for my kids) You will get the second OBC for the second room. I am surprised to hear this. I assumed it would be for only one room-the one that you are in. This could open up a whole can of worms but.....what prevents someone from booking for their friends then and getting the stockholder credit for both cabins? I would really like it being for everyone who owns shares-so if both husband and wife own shares they both get credit in their room. What does everyone else think? I would really like it being for everyone who owns shares-so if both husband and wife own shares they both get credit in their room. What does everyone else think? I don't have experience with this, but this is a guess on my part: When booking, the parents put one parent in each of the staterooms. So in HAL's records, dad is in stateroom 1 with one child (or whatever), and mom is in stateroom 2 with the other child. Then when they get on board, they swap and put the children in one room and the adults in the other. Since the parents would be paying the shipboard accounts for their children, the two rooms are linked to the same credit card. Guess I'm just too honest - I would never have thought to have a couple split up and share the stock credit with people other than immediate family! I agree - it would be great if they would allow each adult who owns shares to get them. After all, it could also be two friends taking a cruise together - wouldn't necessarily be husband and wife. In that case, who gets to use the stock OBC?

In that case, who gets to use the stock OBC? I truly never thought of it either! We could have done that on our recent cruise with my sister and her husband that were in a different cabin. I love having the stockholder credit and wish they would just reconsider and allow everyone the OBC-whether husband/wife, friends, whatever, all should be allowed the credit. But, I also don't want them to stop it!
dorisis Posted December 14, 2011 #43 Share Posted December 14, 2011 Carnival Line stockholders also have an advantage The OBC can be combined with other credits such as those one can get by booking a future cruise while onboard. That is something that Royal Caribbean Line stockholders don't have. I can't think of any other OBCs That they can't be combined with. For us it has ben a win win situation. I have never been sorry for investing in CCL stock It really does keep me going back to Princess and HAL I think the perks for past passengers are better on Princess than on HAL. ~~Doris~~
