Laws about smoking on deck 7 on ships goes back to bulk carriers/ cargo ships when carrying dangerous goods. Deck 7 smoking is written into those laws. Cruise lines must follow those laws, same as the passengers act (what most call jones act). Princess has a policy that states smoking is only allowed while actively playing at designated slot machines. Are you saying that smokers has decided not to comply with that policy? Will you also ignore the smoking policy in other areas of the ship? Do you smoke in restaurants, hotel rooms, or movie theaters? I just don't like to annoy others, kind of a personal issue I guess. Unless cruise ships provide adequate ventilation in an indoor smoking location, I'll be happy to smoke outside. What I'd like to see addressed on cruise ships is quieting down the constant loud talking ... on and on the yappers go. And the loudest talkers are also the ones who have little to say, they just like to hear the sound of their own voices I suppose. But the rest of us would rather not hear every inane word they utter. 6

I won't wager on the casino ever being smoke free. Princess needs to shut down the smoking lounge, aka casino when gambling isn't allowed. I blame Princess for this and not the smoker. Provide your source, cruise ships have to provide smoking outside areas. Remember the Carnival Paradise? A complete non smoking ship, but that failed. Not because they weren't complying with a written law. Smokers should have limited outside smoking areas. IMO, smokers already have a few great places to smoke with great views and bar service. No expanded smoking area Actually on most nights the smoke is not all that bad On the non smoking side most times no smell at all I can only assume that you think you are being humorous Edited April 21 by memoak

I don’t know if there is a sign stating the policy, but I do recall seeing a sign saying “no smoking when casino is closed” at both entrances whenever the casino wasn’t open when we were on the Enchanted this spring. The policy exists though and is clearly stated. I do understand the difficulty of enforcing any policy if guests respond to it by effectively saying “Make me”, but they need to find a way.

We all know how well Princess enforces a lot of their policies. I blame Princess for not enforcing the policy, especially if there are signs advising when and where smoke is allowed. Not the smoker. The smoker should and needs to comply if there is signage and not have to be told. Kinda like those very few smokers that ignore the no smoking on the balcony policy. Interesting that you didn't see it. We were on the Enchanted from February 26 to April 6 and I noticed it many times. In any case, I don't believe the problem is that smokers don't understand the policy. As @justafem said, there are simply smokers who are going to use that area as a smoking lounge unless someone makes them stop. I agree with you that Princess does need to do exactly that. I feel badly that people refuse to comply voluntarily though. Edited April 21 by Torfamm

We didn't see the signage but we aren't gamblers so we quickly found other routes to avoid the casino so not be affected by the smoke smell. Like mid elevators/stairs and Take Five. Crooners always stunk because of those smoking in the casino and poor ventilation. We always had our pre supper drinks and snacks in the Vista Lounge. Why would you feel badly for those that refuse to voluntarily comply? Not us!

I feel badly for Princess staff and the passengers who are affected by others behavior, not the people who refuse to comply with simply stated policies. On the first leg, we were all awakened at 1:00 am because someone had decided to climb over their balcony railing onto the top of lifeboat 17 to stargaze. The captain had turned the ship around and were getting ready to make us all report to our muster stations at 1:30 am as they needed to be sure they hadn't fallen overboard. I feel sorry for all of us affected by smokers not complying. Since the casino staff are contractors I wonder if they are more reluctant not to say anything (?). Now that I have ranted on long enough about this, I realize the problem won't be going away. We do note this on our onboard midcruise survey and our PCS. Like I said we have found ways to minimize our exposure. We aren't like some that fake a cough and wave their arms around like windmills when around smokers. One great thing about Celebrity cruises. No inside smoking, fleetwide.
Rare CynCyn Posted April 26 #1662 Share Posted April 26 As a smoker I believe that they should have kept the Churchill’s and made the casino nonsmoking. Then, no one would complain because they have no need to enter Churchill’s. On my last cruise, we had a few wander in. I really think one came in just to complain about the smoke- no lie! 5

According to Princess website Churchills is still listed as cigar lounge. Other ships deck plans will show that space as an arcade if no longer Churchill's cigar lounge.
