We were on the Sky last week. Great cruise except for the smoking in the casino. It was a special cruise perk for heavy gamblers, supposedly 450 of them. Who would have guessed that heavy gamblers are also heavy smokers (and drinkers and eaters)? First time in many cruises that I didn't gamble at all.

Wow you really have an opinion about gamblers!

We are not all heavy eaters.

Churchills Cigar Lounges are being (not fleetwide yet) phased out. The bars will not have matches.

Thanks, so they should still be available in the cigar lounge if the cigar lounge still actually exists on that particular ship? Is there still a lounge on the Emerald?

I don't smoke so I don't know what would be available. No Churchills Cigar Lounge on the Emerald. It is now an arcade (👎).

Yikes, that is supremely disappointing. Oh well. I don’t want to be inconsiderate to others but I genuinely don’t know where would be the most appropriate place to smoke cigars on the ship, and the whole cigar lounge “vibe” is really part of the whole thing anyway. I practically only ever smoke on vacations. I would’ve liked a nice place to unwind, and maybe make my way through the cognac menu.
Princess doesn’t seem to be much of a party ship like I’m accustomed to, and now I don’t have the solitude I was hoping for in lieu of that either. Talk about a bummer!

It looks like they are changing the cigar areas to arcades as they go into dry dock. The Crown still had one las month but I understand that the Emerald and Ruby have had the changes made.

The Crown no longer has one and they don’t have to be in dry dock for the change to happen.  They just did the Crown on the February 22nd sailing.  I don’t think they had matches available but I think they sell lighters at the casino bar.

Perhaps a stupid question, but do they provide a lighter in the cigar lounge of any sort? Or at least matchbooks you can pick up there, or at the various bars?

There will never be any matches available anywhere on the ship. Fire is frowned on big time.

I'm still trying to figure out why our OP doesn't just bring his own matches/lighter along.

Some cigar smokers use lighters that look like mini blowtorch’s   I am not sure they can even get them on board

For whatever it’s worth, Carnival used to have matches available at pretty much any of the bars, all you had to do was ask - not sure if this is the case now, but in fairly recent history it was never a problem.

OK, I'm not a smoker but I think I know this.  Well, I'm about 70% sure.     Go up the stairs on the starboard side one deck above the Lido buffet.  Should be right in front of you.

I'm not sure about inside or other outside locations.

I have smokers to thank for me giving up gambling on Princess cruise ships. Now, if Princess would only allow smoking again in dining rooms, maybe I could lose some weight!

We just came off our first Princess cruise (Discovery) and it was the first cruise ship Casino I really had an issue with the smoke smell. I say "smoke smell" because even when we would go when there was almost no one in the Casino and could not even find see smoking (or see any ashtrays) ... it still had a heavy cigarette smell. I really didn't get it ... for a new ship I would have expected really good smoke eaters.

I recommend hanging dirty socks in the Casino. They will make the room smell better.

All non-bar smoking lounges have now converted to arcades.

Which makes the only inside smoking area, the casino.  And we're going to utilize that EXPANDED space to smoke in public/inside.

Want that to go back to normal levels?  Tell princess to bring back the enclosed smoking rooms, until then, the casino is now our space.

Laws about smoking on deck 7 on ships goes back to bulk carriers/ cargo ships when carrying dangerous goods.  Deck 7 smoking is written into those laws.  Cruise lines must follow those laws, same as the passengers act (what most call jones act).
