I have never been on the Ruby. Maybe someone will see a this on this board. Otherwise, you might want to do a search on the Princess forum. I have never smoked anything so it would only be on my radar for the ships on which I have sailed.

Cruise lines literally spend billions of dollars on these ships. How difficult can it be to implement a set of double-doors at the entrance, negative air ventilation and a large duct to carry all the noxic, carcinogenic fumes straight up to the funnels?

But belittle as you see fit, I'm sure there's someone here who can do the same back to you. 

Often, those smokers are already accustomed to not being able to smoke indoors in public places. In fact, many won’t even smoke in their own homes or cars.
 

Eliminating indoor smoking is no more likely to keep smokers from cruising than from staying in hotels, eating in restaurants, flying in airplanes, watching movies or visiting bars and clubs.

Smokers have made it so that healthy people literally cannot comfortably or safely use parts of ships that they paid to be able to use. If cruise lines want to continue to cater to smokers by allowing them in casinos and open air parts of the main decks, they should charge them significantly more, and charge non-smokers less for tolerating the depreciation of their trip. You know, like insurance companies do. (I realize this would be a logistical nightmare, so the suggestion is tongue in cheek just for emphasis.)

Princess sells cigarettes, cigars, alcohol, perfume, heck even soap, sunscreen and throw away fashion.  All of these have issues.  We follow the rules implemented by the cruise line.  Your opinion is just that, your opinion.  

 

I follow the rules set by the vacation venue I choose.  We are allowed to smoke.  If you don't like this, you are free to choose another way to spend your vacation funds. If princess changes their rules, I'll make a decision based on that.

Smoking sections are few on cruise ships.  Once you discover them, regular pax can easily avoid them.  Don't use the old smoke travels.  You can avoid those places, you just want to complain.  You won't be happy until there's no smoking on 'your' vacation. 

 

Smokers pay their fares same as everyone else.  Leave us alone. 

You are given outside smoking areas with great views and bar service. I don't blame smokers I blame only Princess that still allows limited inside smoking and a really nice smoking lounge, aka casino. So light 'em if a got 'em.  But, the staff needs to kick every smoker out of the casino when the casino is closed to gambling. Don't say that's not true when the casino is closed. It is a smoking lounge. Smoke and the smell does travel. When I was a smoker for many years I also was in denial about a lot of the negatives nonsmokers would say. I never smoked in our house or our vehicles. The majority of the time I didn't even smoke around my wife. When I quit, I quit only for my own reasons, not other people and what they would say. Just to be clear I'm not suggesting or implying you and others need to quit smoking. Your health isn't my concern. 

 

We avoid smoking areas whenever possible. But, we don't wave our arms around like an out of control windmill and don't do the fake cough and gag when we do find ourselves walking thru an authorized smoking area (s).

some cruise lines have gone as far as to incorporate enclosed smoking casino areas in their new designs.

I mean, yeah. If your burning need to smoke (see what I did there?) is going to lower the quality of my vacation, then logically you should be responsible for lowering my costs. If the cruise industry wants to continue to cater to smokers, they should acknowledge the lowered value for non-smokers. Do you hear me, Powers That Be?! Catering to smoking addiction is the reason my vacation has less value!
 

I cant shop or eat near the casino entrance lest I risk an asthma attack. I certainly can't go *inside* the casino, which is a shame because I love slots... and I have to literally go out of my way and switch floors to get from one end to another on many ships because moving from forward to aft on the casino deck often requires going *through* the casino. Let's not forget I have to get up and move from my deck chair by the pool when the wind shifts and starts blowing your smoking area smoke in my direction, too. 
 

I simply want to respect your right to smoke while preserving MY right to enjoy a cruise ship's offerings entirely free from smoke exposure. If that can't happen, then I should pay less for the inconvenience.

Yep! And after my cruise last month, I will only give my money to those lines until the others smarten up!

The point is that smoking areas should not be in public venues but rather in dedicated spaces where those who want to avoid exposure to secondhand smoke can do so. A shared space like the casino is terrible choice for a smoking area.  It was a huge mistake for Princess to start allowing smoking there again.

awww boy, you think that after 12 years and 1550 post's, that the well traveled folks that have contributed to this thread would have noticed, that just because it's done in America it should be done all over the world. There are many health practices adopted in  North America that are not common in other countries. Since the cruise industry is international both in passenger /crew and travels, it would behoove them to cater to the percentage, (even if small one)  of tobacco smokers and or vapors. The last cruise I was on in the south Pacific had the highest amount of smokers  I've seen enjoying  one another's company on deck seventeen aft. The casino was off limits to them 👍 but, if these folks want to partake in this type of activity knowing risks, it's their choice.
