Poulsbo Cruisers Posted February 13, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 13, 2012 Our June cruise on the Crown departs from Civitavecchia, Italy. We normally fly in a day or two early, but since we have been to Rome a couple of times in the past, we do not feel like doing so this time. We have booked Princess transfers from the airport to the cruise terminal. We are considering flying in one day early and staying in Civitavecchia one night prior to the cruise just to play it safe. Does anyone know if we can still use the Princess transfer if we fly in one day early and don't use a Princess hotel in Rome? I assume that they would still take us to the cruise terminal and we would need to take a taxi to the hotel and back. Any experience in this area would be appreciated. paul929207 Posted February 13, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 13, 2012 If you are not using Princess for the hotel reservations, you cannot get a transfer from them other than on embarkation day. Cancel you transfer and either take the train or arrange a car service.
cantwaitfornextcruise Posted February 13, 2012 #3 Share Posted February 13, 2012 Nope, you can only use their transfer if you are using their hotel, I asked the same question last week for our New Zealand cruise we wanted to flyin early go to the Bay of Islands then spend last night in Auckland but no can do. You will have to either stay with them for extra night or do your own thing
Poulsbo Cruisers Posted February 13, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted February 13, 2012 Thanks for the speedy response. I thought this was probably the answer.
katisdale Posted February 14, 2012 #5 Share Posted February 14, 2012 What you can do is stay at an airport hotel and then go back to the airport and meet your transfer group with everyone else.
Cygneagile Posted February 14, 2012 #6 Share Posted February 14, 2012 2 years ago we flew to Rome and got the bus(transfer)to the port Since this was an overnight flight from Toronto there was no need to fly in a day early. We landed about 7:00 am. Then took the transfer/bus to Civitavecchia. It took about 1 hour or so to get to the port then we were given a number per bus and went into the terminal. So we boarded before 11:30 Although our cabins were not ready until closer to 12:30 So I do not see the need to fly in a day early. Also I did not see much in Civitavecchia But then again that might have been the route we were on. All and all if you have an overnight flight, go the day of and take the transfer from Rome. We are doing the same for our May 12 cruise. We take the train from the airport to Rome Termini station and then from there to Civitavecchia. Booked a Hotel in Civitavecchia and use the hotel shuttle to the cruise port. We can let you know how it worked after we arrive in Civitavecchia. MustangGT Posted February 14, 2012 #8 Share Posted February 14, 2012 Not sure if every embarkation port is the same but, we are on the NY-Quebec City cruise in September. We are flying in the day prior to the cruise and staying at a hotel at the airport - LaGuardia. These are not Princess arrangements. We have purchased transfers from the airport to the pier the following day and it should be no problem. Princess rep just told us where to meet the Princess Rep at the airport and what time to be there. Easy Peasy!!:D Hopefully, you can do the same! The OP is not asking about staying near the airport and then getting a Princess xfer the next day. The OP request is equivalent to you booking a hotel near Red Hook, arriving a day early, and wanting a Princess xfer to Red Hook the day you arrive. Princess only offers xfers on the day of embarkation.
sunshine nana Posted February 15, 2012 #10 Share Posted February 15, 2012 We flew in a day early, stayed at a hotel (not with Princess) and then just went back to the airport and got the Princess transport to the ship.

We have done this on all our International cruises.
