shipgeeks Posted May 11, 2012 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2012 Is there any way to know in advance if a cruise will be featuring guest speakers, or bookings sponsored by political (or other) groups or causes? A friend was on a cruise whose guest speakers attracted hundreds of people of that political persuasion; that would certainly detract from my cruise experience if it happened to me. SadieN Posted May 11, 2012 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2012 No 'clearing house' for groups as such. Google ship name and date of sailing, sometimes that will bring up a large booked group.
paul929207 Posted May 11, 2012 #3 Share Posted May 11, 2012 I have never seen a list of the speakers before any of our cruises. We have also never had one that was blatantly political.
CruiserBruce Posted May 11, 2012 #4 Share Posted May 11, 2012 However, if you look on the board you the cruise line you are sailing, frequently people post info they have found about groups on given sailings. There are many people who seek this info, or sometimes just fall into it. One way is to just google a given sailing date, like "Allure of the Seas May 11 2012". If a group has set up something, and announced it on a website, your search may (no promises) find it.
Rare Keith1010 Posted May 11, 2012 #5 Share Posted May 11, 2012 This will vary by cruise line. Many times the luxury lines advise on who will be speaking but most other lines do not. Keith
cb at sea Posted May 11, 2012 #6 Share Posted May 11, 2012 There could be some sort of speaker, etc...that might attract a group, but the group will have paid to attend speeches, sessions, etc....it wouldn't be in public areas and wouldn't affect a "non-attendee" at all. PennyAgain Posted May 11, 2012 #7 Share Posted May 11, 2012 We were on a mega ship cruise with a major political opinion speaker on board. The folks who with the group that hired that person paid a great deal for their cruise. The affect on our family was nil. The private speaking sessions were on sea days which left a lot more room around the pools. Some folks who wanted to buy a ticket to hear the speaker were told the sessions were sold out and they were very disappointed.
jocap Posted May 11, 2012 #8 Share Posted May 11, 2012 CC members on the P&O page sometimes post the main speakers on ships; Cunard has some political speakers, usually retired from Government, but it will be more anecdotes that party political stuff...I've heard of John Prescott, and other retired speakers on those ships.
