CRUISE4JANE Posted June 7, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 7, 2012 Everyone out there, we need to find an excursion in Freeport. We are mainly looking at a nice beach with bathroom facilities and a place for lunch. Are the beaches worth the price? Some say they would rather stay on the ship.. Winderdawg Posted June 7, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 7, 2012 I would look for something that goes to Lucaya. The beach is close to shopping and restaurants.
Runaway Parent Posted June 7, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 7, 2012 We've done the Wyndam excursion thru Carnival and really enjoyed it. It included a buffet lunch (HUGE in the hotel, not burgers and dogs!) and a nice day at the beach.
CRUISE4JANE Posted June 7, 2012 Author #4 Share Posted June 7, 2012 I was thinking of those also. I know the Wyndam has restroom facilities, but what about the other beaches?
simplelife Posted June 7, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 7, 2012 We are going to Paradise Cove. It is less commercial than Lucaya buit still has facilities. Plus you cna snorkel off the shore there

mamawsnest Posted June 8, 2012 #11 Share Posted June 8, 2012 I second (or third) Paradise Cove. Great beach, good food and friendly people. They also promise to get you back to the ship on time.
govgurl Posted June 8, 2012 #12 Share Posted June 8, 2012 I haven't been to Freeport yet, but we're planning to hit up the Junkanoo Beach Club at Taino Beach (not to be confused with Junkanoo beach in Nassau). You can of course go to Taino Beach for free, but for $5 each the club will give you access to umbrellas, chairs, facilities, etc. the club also serves drinks and food. I've seen the pictures and it looks pretty nice, the reviews of it have been good too. They have snorkeling for an added fee, though the snorkeling is not as good as Paradise Cove I'm sure. But not all of us in my group want to snorkel, so we were looking for a cheap option. Wish we didn't have to take a cab there, but those are the breaks! QLUVS2CRUZ Posted June 8, 2012 #13 Share Posted June 8, 2012 We are also doing Pat and Diane's snorkel tour on our upcoming cruise. Good prices and good reviews from others here on Cruise Critic...if you want to snorkel...
CRUISE4JANE Posted June 8, 2012 Author #14 Share Posted June 8, 2012 A lot of places to think about and I thank all of you for responding. I don't think we will have a problem selecting one of them. :)
Mustangdrew Posted June 8, 2012 #15 Share Posted June 8, 2012 We've done the Wyndam excursion thru Carnival and really enjoyed it. It included a buffet lunch (HUGE in the hotel, not burgers and dogs!) and a nice day at the beach. Reading about the wyndam excursion on the carnival site I'm surprised. Alot of reviews were negative. How was the booze???

We are mainly looking at a nice beach with bathroom facilities and a place for lunch. Are the beaches worth the price? Some say they would rather stay on the ship.. HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO CRUISE4JANE:You don't need a shore excursion at Freeport. Take the group taxi to the Lucayan Market. You could shop there. They have restaurants that you could go to. For my wife and I our favorite is the Greek restaurant. Then if you go across the street toward the hotel they also have a casino. They also have a beach on the other side of the hotel. So you have it all right there and you don't need to go on a shore excursion to get to do everything. You could shop, eat, go to the beach, and play in the casino. momof3cruisers Posted June 8, 2012 #17 Share Posted June 8, 2012 I cannot more strongly disagree on just going it on your own in Freeport. We are pretty laid back people and thought that idea would be just fine. We HATED it. If I ever go again to Freeport, I will bok an excursion or stay on the ship. People are not friendly and are really pushy.
Herfnerd Posted June 8, 2012 #18 Share Posted June 8, 2012 Another vote for Paradise Cove - did it last year and couldn't be happier. Great people, great place and the snorkeling was excellent, especially once you got past Dead Man's Reef......
RedBedHead Posted June 15, 2012 #19 Share Posted June 15, 2012 Pat and Diane's snorkeling/deserted beach was GREAT! The snorkeling was awesome and the deserted beach was probably the highlight of our entire cruise. There are a few things to consider though: - We got off the ship and were greeted promptly by Jerry. - The shuttle left at 9:30. I'm glad we were there at that time as the confirmation says the shuttle leaves at 10:30. That's actually the time the catamaran leaves. -However, the catamaran left closer to 11:30 because we were "waiting for a few people". Since the bahama mama's were already flowing freely we didn't care about the delay ;) -We were a little worried about the return time. We were supposed to be back on the ship at 4:30. We got there at 4:23. All in all, it was a great excursion and I would not hesitate to do it again.
malisainok Posted June 15, 2012 #20 Share Posted June 15, 2012 We are just getting back from cruise and our second stop was Freeport. We did the Wyndham resort and it was just beautiful. The white sand beaches, food, drinks and all the extra activities. It was a short bus ride to and from with a great driver who's full of information. Wonderful place to go and we'll be going back again soon! Malisa

Yep, beach, shopping or Casino sounds like my kind of fun. Then after that we will do the Atlantis Beach thing on Paridise Island and they have shopping and a casino there. Not going to the waterparks as it would take up too much time. The Atlantis thing is $109 pp, but I think it is worth it. Wanted to make sure we had access to the restrooms, beach chairs and towels. Most reputable tour companies would NEVER have the Bahama Mama's flowing already as soon as you board. They wait until after you're done snorkeling to open the bar. If you have someone start pounding the alcohol right away and then go snorkeling, it can easily become a recipe for disaster. :(

However, they weren't strong and we were served one upon boarding and then not again until after snorkeling (at which point more rum was available). It was a good 45 minutes between the drink and the snorkeling. They had everything under control as did the guests.
Rare Terre Posted June 16, 2012 #25 Share Posted June 16, 2012 We went to the Radisson in Our Lucaya. It costs $10 per person which included the pool area and restrooms only. Of course you have use of the beach. There are restaurants at the pool and on the facility, but they only take credit cards. There are some smaller restaurants around the corner and one on the beach. You pay at the guard shack. Here are a couple of pictures:
