Is No Smoking on the Balconies Coming?

Ban smoking on a ocean view balcony room, will not happen for the foreseeable future! Its an open air area, who does it bother other than the ones that look for anything to complain about!! I don't understand why people don't just enjoy the vacation and allow others to do the same...

My right to breath fresh air trumps your right for you to pollute the air that I breath!

Don't get me wrong if there is a smoking area I will stay away from it. but if you smoke on your balcony and it causes me discomfort you are making it so I cannot enjoy my vacation.

I don't smoke, but I agree with you. Having someone smoking on the balcony does not bother me in the least. It is a private, open area and I really do not see why smokers should be discrimated against so much. They want to cruise also. Too me it is just has bad if someone is next to me swearing or arguing up a storm. So do we ban them also? How about people that eat smelly food on their balcony, ban them too? When does it stop?

I enjoy my balcony and I want everyone else to do the same. I hope they don't ban it, I just feel like smokers have the right to enjoy their balcony as much as I do.

I think they should have just a few cabins all on one side of the ship and let those few cabins be smoking. Then you won't be surprised by finding a smoker next to you. You will have a choice to book a cabin next to them or not.

Smoking is disgusting. It smells horrible. It can kill you. I hope it gets banned for sure. There is nothing worse than siting on your balcony and smoke comes your way. Its nasty and makes it impossible to enjoy your balcony. Anyone who does not quit smoking really has no regard for their own life. Its really kinda sad.

It would be SO nice if they banned smoking on the balconies. I love sitting on the balcony for hours at a time and it is very disappointing when I have to go inside the cabin and shut the door due to a smoker on a nearby balcony. Mostly annoying in port where the breeze doesn't assist in moving it away.

Not really wanting to stir up another kettle of fish but here goes. I would not have a problem with smokers on balconies if folks (smokers and non smokers alike) had a little more common courtesy. Let everyone enjoy their balconies. If someone is smoking and others come onto the adjoining balconies, maybe put it out or don't light up a second/third/tenth. Non smokers need to also recognize that smoking for many is a terrible addiction and while I can lower my voice or not stomp around late at night, smokers often cannot quit (even though they may want to). Everyone needs to be a little more nice to each other. Can't we all just get along?

Smoking will be further restricted about 12 minutes [maybe seconds] after RCI determines it makes financial sense.

I think it will happen eventually -- maybe soon, whatever that means. The non-smoking/smoking split in the populataion is currently around 80% non-smoking and 20% smoking. After declining steadily for a while, it seems to have plateaued there recently [although I heard recent studies show further declines.] If it does start to decline further, I think additional restrictions will follow fairly rapidly. But let's face it guys, we are all just guessing.

I hear you but let's do it this way. No smoking allowed on the balconies.

You don't have to smoke. Don't look for something to complain about and just enjoy your vacation.

Its outside open air area with the ship traveling at 16-22 knots depending on the sailing, im sorry but it would have to take a person looking, and smelling to know someone downwind is smoking. Another idea is have half the ship smoking and other not!!! We are respectful of others even in a smoking area and a person walks in or thru with a young child! I can see a person like yourself on a sailing and wouldn't want to be part of your vacation!

I don't know why you have to be so RUDE!!!

There is a reason why we don't cruise on Princess anymore (which is a fantastic cruise line, btw). won't cruise X or Azumara(came close). My husband smokes. When smoking isn't allowed on the balconies anymore, we will either switch lines (try Carnival, I guess) or take land vacations. He may smoke 4 cigarettes a day out there - Am, before lunch, before dinner, and before bed.

I get tired of the self-rightous dribble by some people. I'd like to transport them back 20-30 years when all areas were smoking - malls, supermarkets, restaurants, etc. Then they would realize that when most of these smokers began to smoke, it was very acceptable. I was the odd one out who didn't smoke. Have a little empathy for people who smoked before it was considered harmful (and yes, some doctors told their patients to smoke to keep their weight down). You won't curl up and die if you get a wiff of smoke. Also something else to ponder, in Illinois $38 of every carton goes towards taxes. If he is ever able to quit (and he has tried and tried), guess who is going to have to make up for the loss of revenu - taxes will go up for everyone. The vast majority of the ship is smoke free.

Hey I would have no problem with a neighbor peeking over and politely asking for us to limit, or not smoke while they enjoy themselves. I have no issue with that at all!!!

Thank you!!! Yes we grew up when it was not an issue, oh and no one was allergic to smoke either. I too have quit, and one day will, until then I am very conscious of who is around and may not enjoy it as I do.

I feel no smoking on balconies for RCCL is coming very soon, possibly January 1, 2013 or January 2014. A demographic difference does not really exist between Princess, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean so I really don't see why this policy change is not around the corner.

For me having a balcony room on Celebrity and Princess without a neighbor smoking is truly pleasurable. I only buy balconies. Also no smoking in the casino's does increase business. 80% of the passengers are non-smokers. I was amazed on my last cruise in May on Celebrity Millennium how busy the casino was every night. I will not go to any ship casino that has smoking permitted.

My hope is that RCI bans smoking completely inside. You can smell the smoke on Freedom as soon as you hit the Promenade (the casino is just one deck down and there are direct staircases midship).

BUT - smoking outside is aok with me. It is already limited to one side. IF there had to be restrictions on balconies, maybe go no-smoking on the side of the ship that does not have outside smoking. But I really think outside is outside and should be ok. . . inside is inside and should not. :)

Can't wait until it is banned from balconies. Thirty years from now we'll look back on cruise ships like we do now with airplanes and say I can't believe that used to be allowed.

There is a big difference b/t a 7-8 hour flight and a week on a cruise. Even thought I don't smoke, I hope they never ban it, I feel it totally discrimates against a section of our population. Like I said before, then anyone that has anything else offensive to me or someone else also should not be able to be on their balcony.

Totally agree. For now just give me my balcony free of second hand smoke.
