Can I bring on my own scotch in my baggage to the Oosterdam?

HAL allows all the wine, champagne, mixers, soda, water, juice you wish to bring. No Beer or Hard Liquor. But bottles can be purchased for your cabin at a reasonable cost.

No, and the other poster is incorrect as far as "reasonable price". I suggest you invest in Rum Runners..look on the internet..and save money.

From the Princess Cruises site:

Johnny Walker Red Label 375ml bottle Item #2339 $24.00

On HAL:

Johnnie Walker Red 1 Liter - $36.80

It would take nearly 3 of the bottles on Princess to = 1 on HAL, at almost twice the price. I would call that reasonable pricing by comparison.

It would get confiscated. No need to smuggle alcohol. The liquor package prices onboard are quite competitive with anything you might buy on land.

We have cruised on both Holland America and Princess and have taken our own "booze" aboard in our suitcases without any problem.

In fact last year on Princess, I bought a 1.75 L of Bacardi in Alaska, and took it on Board in a knapsack which went through security scanner without any problem!!! We do have friends however who had major problems on Norwegian with "Booze" in their suitcases.

I hope you like 12 year old Scotch!!!

Many smuggle in plastic containers or bottles. There's no need for this. It can be purchased at similar prices.

A pre-purchased confiscated bottle doubles the price of a purchased bottle!

When compared with the cost of individual drinks on the ship, the price of a bottle of liquor is cheap! Make you selections, set up your own cocktail lounge in your room....and live the good life!

Have you actually looked at the prices or are you making assumptions? I bought a 1 L bottle of Skyy Vodka for $32 for our cabin for next week. I'm flying in from California. I'm quite certain purchasing a rum runner and taking a taxi to a store to purchase the vodka in Seattle wouldn't save me money, not to mention the hassel and time of finding a store, then digging out the rum runner and filling it, then messing with trying to pack it so it won't be obvious and then going to the pier. What a pain in the ...... It sounds ridiculous to me to spend so much money for a cruise then go to the trouble of smuggling alcohol just to (maybe) save a few dollars. Between the cost of the rum runner and the cost of the taxi, I'd end up spending more because I pay about the same at Costco here as HAL is charging for the same bottle.

I just put bottle in checked luggage, HAL really never checks, yes I was breaking rules and still will have large bar tab.

A 1 liter bottle of Skyy vodka in the state run liquor store in Pennsylvania is $14.99. So, prices certainly aren't comparable, but they are reasonable, IMO. I have put a bottle of my favorite scotch in my checked bag several times on HAL and never had a problem. And yes, I know it's against the rules. But HAL seems to be pretty lax on this rule. I've also bought several bottles on HAL because I feel the price is reasonable if they sell what you want.

Does anyone have or know of the complete beer list available on board?

Hoping they may have micro brews available for our Alaska cruise.

I don't have a list, but it's mostly pretty stock stuff - Bud, Miller, Amstel Light, Corona, Stella Artois, Heineken. IMO the best beer on most itineraries is Grolsch. On the S-class ships or the Rotterdam they will have beer on tap in the Mix - Beck's, Bass, Boddington's and I think Stella Artois.

In AK they will have Alaskan Amber which is good IMO, but that's about the only difference there.

always bring liquor in our luggage and we have never had it questioned or confiscated in 20 cruises on HAL. Take a chance. It may be againnst therules but so is chaiir hogging.

Chair hogging won't eventually change the cost of a ticket. When people take it upon themselves to "change" the rules it brings down HAL's progit margin. Bring that down enough and ticket prices go up.

Follow the dang rules and spend the extra $40.

Didn't want to start a new thread over this question so hope it's ok to ask here.

It depends on the ship you are on if they have any micro brews on board. HAL started to have them when the MIX was introduced on the S class ships and the Rotterdam. A few of the others also have gotten the micro brews.

This is only an old partial list of some of the beers on HAL -- and the prices have gone up as of September:

6-pack Bud Light domestic beer no price found

6-pack Miller Lite domestic beer $21.85

6-pack Amstel Light imported beer $23.00

6-pack Corona imported beer $23.00

6-pack Miller Genuine Draft domestic beer $21.85

6-pack Heineken imported beers $23.00

Both old and new prices include the 15% gratuity.

Some new prices:

BEER

Miller Genuine Draft domestic beer: 6-pack -- $26.45

Bud Light domestic beer: 6-pack -- $26.45

Budweiser domestic beer: 6-pack -- $26.45

Corona imported beer: 6-pack -- $29.90

Amstel Light imported beer: 6-pack -- $29.90

Heineken imported beer: 6-pack -- $29.90

Miller Lite domestic beer: 6-pack -- $26.45
