Orangefan Posted August 26, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 26, 2012 The CCL stock document about their OBC says it " cannot be used for casino credits/charges and gratuities charged to your onboard account". Does that mean charges for casino gratuities only or you can't apply it to the $11.50 daily charges either ? In past cruises I have used the TA and FCC OBC's toward covering the $11.50 daily charges. I thought cruisers also applied their stockholder's OBC's to those daily charges. Sali
Princess Patches Posted August 26, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 26, 2012 Yes, I know their website states you cannot apply it to gratuities, but they do not follow their own rule. It is applied to gratuities.

It is applied to gratuities. Yeah ! Thanks. Also I remember reading awhile ago that some people received money back they didn't spend. How would you go about that process? Not that I think I will have money leftover but I like to be informed of my options. Someone also said they went through a casino process to get that money. Thanks ! caribill Posted August 26, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 26, 2012 Unused OBC that you paid for (such as a gift of OBC by yourself or a relative) can be refunded at the Purser's Desk at the end of the cruise. Unused OBC that Princess paid for (such as stock OBC, FCC OBC, etc.) is not refunded, but you can download it to your cruise card at a slot machine in the casino and then cash it out at the casino cashier. Daily limits apply as to how much can be downloaded. Can only be downloaded and cashed out while the casino is open.
paul929207 Posted August 26, 2012 #5 Share Posted August 26, 2012 The OBC is just a credit to your account. As charges hit the account, the credit is reduced. It can be any charge, including gratuities.

With OBCs, regardless of the source, you start with a credit and everything charged to your folio, whether it's gratuities, drinks, tours, etc., is deducted from the credit until its used up. I had about $40 left as a credit after my 16-day cruise last March. I didn't take it out but Princess sent me a check for the credit a couple of weeks after the cruise. It can be any charge, including gratuities. I wish this were true about it being any charge for all CCL cruise lines. We were recently on the QM2 and QE and Cunard which has always said that OBCs cannot be used for the casino has now changed its onboard account system to do just that. On Princess Cruises in the past even though the published info says that OBC & SHB cannot be used in the casino, we've always been able to do just that. We were also able to do that on Cunard until this year. I've attached an image of part of our onboard Account to show the new categories they've established. As you can see, all OBCs are listed at the top, then below is a running list of all charges. It lists "Charge Amount", "Credit Redeemed", "Loyalty Tier" which is the freebies you get for being certain levels and "Total". As you can see everything except casino charges had OBCs applied EXCEPT casino charges. At the end of the cruise if you had made $100 in casino charges and had $100 left in OBCs, you would lose the OBC and be charged the $100. We haven't been on a Princess ship since May so are wondering if Princess has now implemented this same accounting procedure. If they haven't yet, I'm sure they will. At least there was a running total of charges & how credits were applied so there were no surprises at the end of the cruises.

Haven't hear anyone complaining about any accounting changes on Princess. We don't go to the casino, so it would not affect us. Each of the cruise lines owned by Carnival Corp. is a separate entity and operate independently. So a change in the policies on one does not necessarily affect the others. K-Dogg Posted August 27, 2012 #11 Share Posted August 27, 2012 Is there a way to confirm pre-cruise how much OBC we will have? I was told we were getting $50 from our group, $100 from our TA (a group reservation, not my personal TA), and $100 for my hubby being military. We're only 12 days away, so I was wanting to confirm the amount. Is this possible? Thanks!

KruzPrincess Posted August 27, 2012 #17 Share Posted August 27, 2012 I love that I can use OBC to pay gratuities and hope they don't change that. Sort of off topic, but I go Christmas shopping with my leftover OBC at the end of the cruise. On the last day I go buy gifts to take home and put in my box of gifts. I have fun with it. One more for you... :o Once on board do I just need to go to the purser's desk to check it, or will I get something in our cabin? I have found that even if I have used a TA, Prinmess will tell me on the phone how much OBC I have. It is always wise to get a printout of your account when on board to make sure all of the promised OBC is there. It may not all be posted on embarkation day, but it should be there a day or two later. Bring any evidence you were granted OBC with you on the cruise in case it does not appear. Be aware that it may be lumped together without a breakdown of where it came from, so check both your printout and your spouse's printout to make sure the total is correct. Some types of OBC will have a notice in your cabin and some will not. For example, a gift of OBC from your TA should have a notice. Military or stock OBC will not. Most ships now have a kiosk near the front desk where you can printout your onboard account.

There are kiosks near the purser's desk where you can insert your cruise card and print your statement at any time. We print ours several times throughout the cruise to keep track of our OBC spending.

Rare PescadoAmarillo Posted August 27, 2012 #23 Share Posted August 27, 2012 We are currently on the Island Princess and we have already been given cash back for our unused OBC. That we could do this was quite a surprise, as on the Emerald it's recently been "use it or lose it", except for the Captains Circle OBC. And most of our current OBC was from the standard sources (military, CCL and FCC).
