AmberTeka Posted October 19, 2012 #5 Share Posted October 19, 2012 The new menus for the Emerald are already in place. They haven't been getting the best reviews, so it would be great to get to have a peek. I would love to see them posted. I read on one post that the Beef Medallions had been dropped as an anynight alternative. I loved them. I thought they were the best thing out there on the menu..ditto the Turkey Pot Pie...also thought that was delicious..and we loved the Sundaes each night for dessert. My Husband had one every night....and he was as happy as a kid about it. Some kind soul posted some information about Caribbean Princess for me. She said that ice cream was not at the I.C. That is not even a thought to me. BUT those warm cookies that are there before you go to bed? Like on the Star and the Crown...they do have have those? I loved that place. I loved that coffee bar next to it. I loved those cookies. I know chocolate chip cookies...and those were among the best!! When we ate at Sabotino's (sp?)...they served a type of bread with olives baked into it. That was the most delicious bread I have ever tasted. I wonder why they don't put that on the main menu. It is unusual ( or was to me) and I could have made a meal just from the bread.
sunsetbeachgal Posted October 19, 2012 #6 Share Posted October 19, 2012 I'm curious as well...we just got off the Sapphire and they had the new menu but it was a seven night cruise...beef medallions were gone..there were a couple of new beef items on every day...at tri tip roast and something else I can't remember. For me one of the best things was that creme brûlée was on every night...excellent but my waistline is suffering!! not sure if this is the case with all ships, the IC on the Sapphire was open 24 hours a day and had the yummy cookies all day long...yes, I even had them at breakfast!! Tripper10 Posted October 19, 2012 #7 Share Posted October 19, 2012 I'm so confused, I have heard people say on these boards that Princess does not have a set dinner menu and the chef chooses the menu from about 30 different rotating menus from trip to trip. I also have heard that they have a set menu. Which is it?

I also have heard that they have a set menu. Which is it? In general, repeating cruises (7 day Caribbean, 10 day Med, 7 day Alaska) will have a consistent set of menus they use on every sailing. But the 7 days in Alaska will not be identical to the 7 days in the Caribbeanm but most of the menus will be the same for both itineraries. For example, the first night's menu (Sailaway Dinner) and the last evening's menu (Landfall Dinner) have been the same on every itinerary I have been on. It is the longer sails (Trans-Atlantaic, World Cruise Sgements, Asia-to-Australia, etc.) that will supplement the normal menus with others from the overall collection. Thanks for your responce, but the meticulous people on this board have everything from a pic of a woman sleeping in her life jacket, but nobody has the menus? Hard to believe. I can find every menu for almost every cruise except Princess 10 day caribbean.

Hard to believe. I can find every menu for almost every cruise except Princess 10 day caribbean. If you can find any current menus for a 7-day cruise, at least 6 of them will likely be on your 10 day Caribbean cruise.

I also have heard that they have a set menu. Which is it?Princess does have at least 30 menus, but there are a number that are on every cruise and others are added on longer cruises. The chef may be able to change the order of menus on a given cruise or mix dessert menus and dinner menus, but the menus are set with the food delivered to the ship at the start of the cruise and that is not controlled by the chef. It's hard to believe, but all fruit, vegetables and meats for a 14 day Hawaii cruise are loaded at Embarkation in LA. There are various temperature refrigerators to keep food fresh for that duration. At some point on longer cruises additional food will need to be obtained but not for most itineraries. There are some exceptions as fresh fish is often obtained in Ketchikan on Alaskan cruises for example.
jaynak Posted October 21, 2012 #12 Share Posted October 21, 2012 Just off Emerald. So sorry didn't copy menus but they are in full swing. I wouldn't say they're meeting a thrilled response. My wandering thoughts: the cheeseburger was delish but it felt very odd to have it in the dining room! The Mac n cheese amazing. Don't be fooled - there was more seafood than Mac! The Anytime Chicken, Salmon, Beef were quite plain as always. Who likes Lima beans? They were on all sorts of plates. The Szechuan shrimp was terrific. Sundaes are still Anytime! Don't worry. Turkey Dinner was best ever - they took the grapes out of the stuffing and the cranberry sauce was super. Also got rid of the weird square slice of squash. There was a soufflé almost every night. I like that. No lamb shank for dh. He was very disappointed. The lamb they had was poor apparently. Overall the fantastic service we had made up for lackluster meals. Still we managed to gain a little weight so we weren't hard done by. Cheers :-)

sunsetbeachgal Posted October 21, 2012 #14 Share Posted October 21, 2012 One of the new items on the Sapphire menu was an appetizer "fried sushi". I had to try it being a sushi lover...it was unusual...probably would not order it again.

jaynak Posted October 22, 2012 #17 Share Posted October 22, 2012 It was always called fruited stuffing or some such name and yes I got a whole grape a number of times! Like a fruit cocktail grape - soft and mushy. Anyway, hopefully they've lost the fruit cocktail cans for good! Another thought - we noticed a lot more creativity with the fish dishes. More than just the standard talipia. White fish still isn't my thing but if its yours, there was a new interesting sounding dish every night. debandbruce Posted October 22, 2012 #18 Share Posted October 22, 2012 We are sailing on the Emerald for her first 10 day back in the caribbean, Nov7-17. I will do my best to take photos of the menus for everyone. We won't be back home until the 20th so will need a few days post cruise to get them on here. There will be 8 of us travelling together so hopefully I will get a lot of food porn pictures as well! :D

We have only sailed Princess one time so far on the Island. No cookie ever available anywhere on the ship was remotely warm. Believe me, we looked. Believe me, we asked. Hotel Director said not going to happen. I guess some ships rank, and some do not. In fact, those were the most overcooked product by far. They couldn't even cook 'em so they stay less than crunchy. My brother and SIL told me all about the warm cookies and cocoa brought around during MUTS. They also said they had popcorn brought to them. When we sailed on the Emerald last time no such thing happened. We did go get our own popcorn but it was so salty my acid reflux was on overdrive. On the final night of the cruise a girl did bring some cookies out but as you said not warm and very hard, no cocoa to wash it down. My brother and his wife were surprised we didn't get the same service. We are going on the Emerald with them in 2 weeks, maybe they will be the lucky charms I need to get a warm cookie! :D Will let you know how it goes, can't wait for the pizza as well! IC usually has someone going around that area between 3:30 and 4:00 each day with warm cookies and milk. They also have cookies at the counter in the evening. It was on the Lido deck around 3 or 4 in the afternoon. Usually they were chocolate chip with the chips partially melted from the warming!:D
