2J's Posted December 15, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 15, 2012 Why is the Eclipse still at the dock in Ft Lauderdale?
debandbruce Posted December 15, 2012 #2 Share Posted December 15, 2012 It shows the Eurodam still in port as well. You can just sort of see the back of her sitting in front of the Eclipse. Wonder what's holding things up, maybe flight delays.
Jack Horner Posted December 15, 2012 #3 Share Posted December 15, 2012 Why is the Eclipse still at the dock in Ft Lauderdale? It is because they are having logistical loading provisioning challenges for the 14-day Caribbean itenary and it is taking longer than anticipated. Andy Posted December 15, 2012 #4 Share Posted December 15, 2012 It is because they are having logistical loading provisioning challenges for the 14-day Caribbean itenary and it is taking longer than anticipated. Again ? That's what they told us for Eclipse's November 17th sailing. I bet someone has a lot of explaining to do.
2J's Posted December 15, 2012 Author #5 Share Posted December 15, 2012 Finally leaving the dock. Can't believe they are having a provisioning problem. It's not like they never did a 14 day cruise before. Makes me want to re-think my upcoming sailing on this ship if they can't get their act together on provisions. What else aren't they doing right? Not a good omen!!!!!
Islandbuoy Posted December 16, 2012 #6 Share Posted December 16, 2012 See my post below on debarc delays. It's due to the terminal they are using, with passengers going where trucks shud be and vise versa!
grammyandpoppy Posted December 16, 2012 #7 Share Posted December 16, 2012 Then why can't the Eclipse. Boarding and disembarkation on Oasis was a breeze. Disembarking Eclipse today was totally chaotic!
A Sixth? Posted December 16, 2012 #8 Share Posted December 16, 2012 Fron our roll call (the next one: Dec 29th) posted as I watched them leave live today. Order of departures were Grand Princess 4:15, Caribbean Princess 4:30, Carnival Freedom 4:45, Oasis of the Sea 5:00, Celebrity Eclipse ("security call/ away from doc 6:45) on her way 7:00 , Eurodam also cleaed 7:00 from in front of Eclipse and follows her out to sea. I noticed the American flag at half mast in memory of the Newtown massacre. FWIW Who cares when you leave? You're on a great ship. Late arrives will kiss the decks... Late arriving is a much bigger issue... missed flights etc... but it happens FTLOM why would anyone care too much about departing on day one a bit late ... there's no way it's affecting the sea day or day three. Happy Cruiser 6143 Posted December 16, 2012 #9 Share Posted December 16, 2012 Again ? That's what they told us for Eclipse's November 17th sailing. I bet someone has a lot of explaining to do. There were many, many pallets still sitting on the dock waiting to be loaded at the time we were scheduled to sail November 17. So obviously there is some problem with this and it sounds like it is continuing.
Sherrie74 Posted December 16, 2012 #10 Share Posted December 16, 2012 A friend just emailed me from the ship and said everyone was not getting any answers when they asked staff about the delay. My friend has done many Celebrity cruises and she said the staff were not wearing their usual pleasant faces and asked me to come on her and try to find ouy ig something going on. Thanks to original poster ... good to know nothing of dyer importance. Thanks

need2bespoiled Posted December 16, 2012 #12 Share Posted December 16, 2012 We left late on Dec 1 as well. I had dinner with the officers while on board and I was unaware we even left late until Ryan (the Hotel Director) told me. So what, we left late. He basically said that the port can't get the provisions loaded fast enough. We only had to sail at 18 knots to get to St. Martin on time, and while it was a tad bumpy in 3-4 meter seas, we made it on time and the ship can go faster as it sailed in this morning at 20 knots. Maybe Oasis has a berth built to load her specifically (and for a 7 day cruise). While she has nearly twice the passengers, ordering food to last for twice as long does take a bit more planning and I guess, on top of the fact the access to the berth is a bit tougher. Also, remember what traffic gets like there mid morning, if a truck is late, it will take a LONG time, it's crazy with traffic!
Rare Azulann Posted December 16, 2012 #13 Share Posted December 16, 2012 I am leaving from this port on Wednesday on the Century. Sailaway is at 5pm. Who cares if it finally moves at 6 or 7 or 8. I will be on vacation, the cruise has begun in my mind. I am beginning to think that a lot of cruisers are very nervous travellers. They want everything to work like clockwork. Part of any adventure is the unknown...

I couldn't care tuppence ... Sue PS It seems a ship can do nothing without someone noticing and posting a question. Were they human, they would become paranoid! KeywestK Posted December 16, 2012 #15 Share Posted December 16, 2012 We're sailing on Eclipse in February, and frankly, I don't care if we leave on time, or later......but, that said, that's not the point. It just seems to me that I'm reading more and more threads about problems, and even worse, continuing problems at Port Everglades. I guess I just don't understand that when problems at the port are identified that they are not addressed and dealt with. Call my crazy, but I would think that the different cruise lines that are serviced by PE would want the most efficient environment for their ships, their employees, and their paying customers. Turning a blind eye and hoping things will get better is not the way to deal with all these issues. OK, time to get off my soap box now.
gimletgal Posted December 16, 2012 #16 Share Posted December 16, 2012 Has anyone noticed that there is a TON of construction going on at Port Everglades? Traffic is a nightmare and can easily affect semis coming and going. So what if Celebrity ships are the last to leave? How will that impact your cruise??? The Oasis and Allure have a terminal that was built specifically for them. That is why they are so efficient over there. And I don't think late arrivals are kissing the decks. Manifests are turned in at least 1 hour prior to scheduled departure. If you arrive after that, you are SOL. Relax and enjoy. You are on a cruise. ;)
debshomespun Posted December 16, 2012 #17 Share Posted December 16, 2012 We sail on the 1-26-13 sailing of Eclipse. I don't care if we leave late. We have left many times from FLL, and it would be nice to leave in the dark, and experience all the lights from Port Everglades. As long as we do leave, we are on a cruise, and for 14 spectacular nights!
Chesapeake1 Posted December 16, 2012 #18 Share Posted December 16, 2012 Why is the Eclipse still at the dock in Ft Lauderdale? I was on the 12-1 sailing. As stated above we also left late. In my opinion departure delays are a non-issue as long as they do not affect your arrival to the first stop. In our case it did not. What we did notice is at least the last 3 truckloads of provisions were subject to a very detailed search. They had a very high law enforcement presence including "Detection dogs" on the pier. During this time nothing was moving on the pier other than law enforcement. The disembarkation process was a total nightmare. We were in one of the first groups to depart and it took 55 minutes to get to the taxi area from the Tucson Grill. There was also a severe shortage of Taxis likely due to the fact we were docked at one of the furthest points in the Port. We nearly missed an 11:45 AM flight. We have sailed the Oasis and Voyager class ships on RCL and never had any issues like this. I am not complaining just making an observation. CaptData Posted December 16, 2012 #20 Share Posted December 16, 2012 When I was on the Maasdam years ago. We were to start boarding at 11-11:30 am. It was delayed until 4 pm which is when we were to leave. We left at 9:30 pm from Norfolk. They gave us lunch in the waiting area and rides around town. The Mustard Drill was held the next morning at 10 am. The police were on board with dogs and they was an ambulance standing by. They never told us what happened. That's a situation, where you are not allowed to board the ship when scheduled,m and I can speculate that for most of us that would be an issue. :( But as I understand it, with the Eclipse leaving Port Everglades, everyone boarded as usual and were enjoying the ship, a ship that left latter than originally scheduled. So what? You're on vacation, getting top quality chow and waterings... luxury!!:D
grammyandpoppy Posted December 16, 2012 #22 Share Posted December 16, 2012 Yeah - we were late embarking and leaving port but no one was upset. It's about the logistical nightmare of trying to disembark in Fort Lauderdale. Guess you need to stand and get pushed around on the stairs for an hour (all under the Equinox's direction), be unable to get a taxi or miss your flight to truly get it. You can have my spot on the stairs for your next cruise.

A Sixth? Posted December 16, 2012 #24 Share Posted December 16, 2012 Its about disembarking really No, the OP was asking why the Eclipse had not left the pier well after her scheduled departure and many others chirped in and said they were told nothing and others said it was taking longer to load up the provisions. Seems most of us, so long as we get aboard, are good with that. Oh Ya gimletgal, I don't know where you heard "Manifests are turned in at least 1 hour prior to scheduled departure. If you arrive after that, you are SOL." But that is simply not true. Example: If it were true, why would a cruise ship EVER wait an extra hour or two for large numbers of late flight arrivals (as it is known to happen)?.
