twindaddy Posted December 17, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 17, 2012 Just off the Splendor today....before I post my big Post Splendor review/critique/ Disney comparison, can someone tell me what the point of the Boarding Pass is? I had it in hand and ready until I literally walked on the ship, and no one ever wanted it. Check in desk only wanted my passport, and every other step wanted Sign and Sail and my passport. It ended up in the trash on the Lido deck, never used, just fondled by me daily as I counted down the days to my cruise. Should I have been asked for it by someone? Rare Tapi Posted December 17, 2012 #3 Share Posted December 17, 2012 No, and it's true that you don't need it. However there may be places where it may be useful to have it. I've been asked for it both in Pt Canaveral and Jacksonville just to proceed inside the cruise terminal, but once inside, nobody cares for it. bbohbbneedacruise Posted December 17, 2012 #4 Share Posted December 17, 2012 POM asks for it when entering the terminal before going through security. NOLA you need to have it if using the parking garage. NY Manhattan you need to have it as well at the parking garage. It is always better to have something and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Amen, I print everything, even my full trip insurance contract, just to have with me in case I need it. Thanks everyone for checking in...
TriciaEMTB Posted December 17, 2012 #6 Share Posted December 17, 2012 They asked for it in Miami before we got to the check in desk, but I don't think you NEED it need it. THey're not going to deny you boarding if you don't have it, check in just takes longer. After they checked in my passport they wrote some code on my boarding pass and sent me to the check in desk. We we board with Princess it tells them what you boarding priority is. Platimum (and higher), full suites have priority boarding.
Carnival_Brides Posted December 17, 2012 #9 Share Posted December 17, 2012 In Baltimore you have to have a boarding pass and ID to even walk in the building. I think they ask for it once you get past security as well to figure out if you're Priority (old VIP) or regular folk. Then the nice people at check-in ask for it as well. If you don't have it, you have to fill out the information again--ewww.
I'mReadytoSail Posted December 17, 2012 #10 Share Posted December 17, 2012 Hope you had as much fun on the cruise as we did. We have taken several cruises on Carnival including the Splendor a couple of years ago and this was the first time we didn't have to show our boarding pass, just our passports. SadieN Posted December 17, 2012 #11 Share Posted December 17, 2012 I was on the Splendor 2 weeks ago and needed my boarding pass to enter the terminal, along with my passport. Yep, we needed it to get into the VIP building in Long Beach. Needed our S&S card and passport to get into the Dome. The gal guarding the VIP door checked our name off her list and put our Boarding Pass into the queue for processing.
rprice11 Posted December 17, 2012 #12 Share Posted December 17, 2012 We just sailed out of tampa and I didn't even have any for my family of five. Didn't take a ny longer then the seven others I entered the terminal with.

The gal guarding the VIP door checked our name off her list and put our Boarding Pass into the queue for processing. hmmm, odd. We were not VIP, but even with a zone 3 card, we boarded maybe twenty minutes after the VIP. Not too bad. Maybe I just got lucky, when I walked into the dome they just wanted my passport and sign and sail. Here is another interesting part. My giant bag of waters and soda (perfectly legal amount for a party of five) was scanned, the guy told me he wanted to check my bag, but the table for that machine was full. So I moved to the table for the other machine. I then waited...and waited and waited, while he checked other bags that came after me, BS'd with his coworkers, and took a drink from his water bottle. I then left.....no one ever checked my bag. How long would you have waited? I gave him at least five minutes, and it felt like forever just standing there. At the Early check in desks they swipe your passport to pull up your info. The boarding pass is used to get into the building if not already checked in. If you had arrived later you would have presented your boarding pass at the door of the Dome. If you do not have a boarding pass you have to wait for the list-holder to show up. Everyone behind you would probably be annoyed at this delay.
glrounds Posted December 17, 2012 #15 Share Posted December 17, 2012 I was on the Splendor 2 weeks ago and needed my boarding pass to enter the terminal, along with my passport. I was on the same SPLENDOR cruise as you and I didn't need my boarding pass at all to enter the terminal (there was nothing there but a machine). Just hit the button and was given a parking ticket. The lady at the VIP checkin asked me for my boarding pass, but I just gave her my name and she checked me off her list and opened the door? (By the way I have an excellent iphone pic of you having a very good time at the Casino bar) :D

You must have meant the breakfast from debark day....um, to say I took "a few" of those hashbrown disks would be an understatement. I had a mound, mmmm love those things. But then again, maybe I had a VERY good time at the casino bar and dont remember! Ok, so I think the mystery is solved. I checked in outside at about 10:20ish. I guess that means I was an early check in. If I had come after the terminal opened, I would have checked in inside? And then needed my boarding pass (maybe....). I wondered why there were all those check in lines inside if check in is outside..... Very sad to see the Splendor leave Los Angeles, she is a great ship! cruisinJenF Posted December 17, 2012 #17 Share Posted December 17, 2012 I have never been asked for a Boarding Pass in Long Beach- not even to get into the VIP area. Just my name and they check their list. I was asked for it in Galveston. Better safe than sorry so I always print it :)

gail811 Posted December 17, 2012 #19 Share Posted December 17, 2012 We have had to use ours to get through the gate to the port in Ft. Lauderdale. They wanted picture ID and boarding passes to prove we were indeed sailing.

Ken076 Posted December 17, 2012 #21 Share Posted December 17, 2012 If they're doing security checks at the Port, you often have to present a Boarding Pass. Otherwise they normally check for a Boarding Pass to get into the Port Check-In building. The check-in agent scans the QR code on the Boarding Pass to call up your record. ken

Better safe than sorry so I always print it :) I love how consistent security is. We have always had to show our boarding pass to check in either at the dome or the VIP building in LB. And if you don't have it with you, then your id and proof that you are on the cruise. twindaddy - I would have left after waiting no more than 1 minute. If he really wanted to check the water he would have. Since you checked in outside, there was no need to show your boarding pass. You only need it when checking in inside. sjcruiser Posted December 18, 2012 #23 Share Posted December 18, 2012 At the Carnival Terminal in NY this past summer, security/Carnival reps. asked for our ID/Passport and Boarding passes before we were allowed into the seating/processing area of the terminal. It was the first time someone had asked for it on either Carnival or Royal leaving from terminal in NY, Cape Liberty, PC or Miami.
CRZCRAZY Posted December 18, 2012 #24 Share Posted December 18, 2012 I just got back from Miami and was told to wait in a line with a couple hundred people because my pass was printed after the change from VIP to Priority was made in the boarding pass a couple weeks ago. She said the short line was for VIP, Platinums. I told her I was Diamond and she told me to get in the long line. I didn't feel like arguing with her. I'm composing a letter to the Miami office.
