Aix en Provence from Toulon

We will be docking at Toulon in October. The ship docks at 8AM and leaves at 4PM. How practical is it to plan to visit Aix en Provence and be back by 3PM?

Are you planning to do it on your own or with a guide?

 

I would think with a guide, it would be very doable. We visted Aix, a winery, had a long lunch and went out into the countryside in about 7 hours.

If you have any interest in art, a visit to Cezanne's studio is really a must. It's just as he left it. The sad thing is there are no Cezanne paintings left in Aix.

On RCI there was a half day ship tour to Aix.

You will have plenty of time if that's all you want to do. It took us about 2-3hours to walk around Aix with a guide and probably 45 mins each way. Of course, you could spend more time depending on what you wanted to see.

Do plan something...We docked in Toulon on a Sunday and it was virtually "closed"...Luckily for us it was our first port and we had decided just a walk around the farmer's market, and get ready for lots of activity during our next amazing ports.

There were some things closed in Aix on a Sunday morning. However, there were some shops open as well as a couple of markets.

With your own transportation it will be easy to go to Aix for a few hours.

You'll be fine. It's only about a 30 min drive from port if I recall.

 

If your guide picks you up at 9 even, you could have 5 hours in town, which is more than enough to do anything you want..
