catsym Posted March 31, 2013 #1 Share Posted March 31, 2013 Hi, I wonder if anyone can help, never sailed with celebrity before and are going on the silhouette in July. Have just realized there are no self service laundry on board and am wondering if there are irons available either in the stateroom or on request, can't imagine not being able to give clothes a freshen up when they come out of my suitcase. Thanks in advance to anyone who can advise me.
Rare cruisestitch Posted March 31, 2013 #2 Share Posted March 31, 2013 Celebrity has no irons available for passenger use, and you are not allowed to bring irons or clothes steamers on board with you. Passengers have many methods for dealing with wrinkles. Some hang their clothes in the bathroom while they shower and let the steam do its job Some send theirs own for pressing Some use products like Downy Wrinkle Release spray or make their own home-made version out of liquid fabric softener, diluted. Some pack using tissue paper or dry cleaner bags between layers of clothes Some choose wrinkle-resistant clothes

Langoustine Posted March 31, 2013 #4 Share Posted March 31, 2013 Some pack using tissue paper or dry cleaner bags between layers of clothes I have used the tissue-paper method for years and have found it takes care of 90+% of the problem. Never tried dry cleaner bags.

Rare cruisestitch Posted March 31, 2013 #6 Share Posted March 31, 2013 None of the Celebrity ships, new or old, have self-service laundries.
sandancer Posted March 31, 2013 #7 Share Posted March 31, 2013 Thanks to all who replied, hard to believe on a new ship they didn't put laundries, especially when they dont allow irons. Revenue, revenue, revenue.
Rare cruisestitch Posted March 31, 2013 #8 Share Posted March 31, 2013 Certainly revenue, but also the avoidance of fights between passengers over washers and dryers (yes, these do happen), not having to deal with people not reading directions of how much detergent to use and causing flooded hallways, misuse by people who try to dye clothing in the ship's machines and ending up ruining other passenger's clothing. All of the above happened on one single cruise on a line which has passenger self-serve machines.
bplazo Posted March 31, 2013 #9 Share Posted March 31, 2013 The last thing I want to do is laundry when I am on a cruise. I don't mind a few wrinkles

Not to mention the people that dry their oil soaked bathing suits in the dryers leaving an oily film and then then the next person tries to dry their whites and they get all messed from the oils. Irons are a safety hazard but I have heard that some people use the flat hair irons for their clothes....me...I just wear the wrinkles! I am on vacation and we all come out of suitcases! Northern Aurora Posted March 31, 2013 #11 Share Posted March 31, 2013 Nope, no irons.... Laundry service is available, but it's not cheap. The Celebrity laundry prices are actually much lower than many, if not most, hotels.
Aussie Claire Posted March 31, 2013 #12 Share Posted March 31, 2013 Thanks to all who replied, hard to believe on a new ship they didn't put laundries, especially when they dont allow irons. An ironing room on each deck would be nice.:)
warmwinds Posted April 1, 2013 #13 Share Posted April 1, 2013 I wear my clothes slightly wrinkled from the suitcase, and have never judged or even noticed when anyone else did the same.
Kevnzworld Posted April 1, 2013 #14 Share Posted April 1, 2013 I always bring woolite for socks and undergarments.... It's worth it to use the ships laundry service for shirts. There might even be a discount coupon for one laundry service.
bplazo Posted April 1, 2013 #15 Share Posted April 1, 2013 No laundry, dishes or cleaning the house for 10 days. That is a vacation :).
