RCI Visa Credit Card Points

Is onboard credit received from the cashing in of credit card points reimburseable if unused at the end of the cruise? Or, is it use it or lose it?

Thanks!

As Ellen noted, because unused credit will go back to your credit card, it's best to cash out on the last night so you don't lose double points.

When you say cash out, do you mean at the casino where you pay a 3% fee or somthing like that?

Thanks all for the info!

No, you can go to Guest Services on the last night and get cash (no fees) for any remaining OBC, as long as it's refundable. Visa points OBC is refundable.

Just clarifying, but if you allow it to go 'back onto the credit card' vs. getting cash, do you mean it goes as a credit to the RC Visa? I plan on using a different credit card to attach to our Sea Pass for our upcoming cruise. I'm not concerned about double points -- we're not in a suite. But I don't use the RC Visa any more so I wouldn't really want a credit on that card. Thanks for any info. :)

Yes, any credit will go back on the card you used to secure your SeaPass account.

Here's another question...for those experienced with booking through Costco...

Is the OBC given by Costco when booking through them considered refundable? I have heard from someone that unused Costco OBC was refunded. If put back on my RCI Visa, would I encounter the same double point loss as refunded unused credit card OBC. I assume the answer is yes since refundable OBC is OBC regardless of source.

If you are using the RCI Visa on your shipboard account, and you have any reimbursable OBC, I suggest cashing out on the first day.

Why... so any onboard charges earn the double points.

If you have $300 OBC, and you end up spending the $300, you could earn 600 points towards your next OBC.

Wow, Rakes5...I never thought of that!!

I will have $600 OBC from my RCCL Visa. So, if I "cash out" on the first day and then leave my RCCL Visa for my set sail pass...I can earn double points??? If this is accurate, this is great news!

With refundable OBC you can not get any cash back from your SeaPass account until the day prior to debarkation. Some ships will only allow you to get any refundable OBC after 4PM.

You can cash it out anytime at the casino at 3% service charge. I don't know what the max amount is ,you might have to do it in more than 1 transaction.

Thanks for adding that as I forgot to include that in my post above.

I should have also added "from Guest Relations".

Thanks for the info...this would be a great way to earn double points.

Does anyone know if there is a limit on the amount of pre-purchased on board credit that you can cash out at guest services?

This will not last long. At one time you could get cash from the casino with no 3% charge, then folks kept bragging how they got cash out and took it home to pay their CC bill and got all kind of perks. This is a public forum and folks from RCI & BOA do read it. So my advice is to please shut up!

So if I have 175.00 obc I could cash it out in the casino and only pay interest of 5.25, this is for my brother b/c they will gamble, how does this work? I will have my obc on the 2nd day, so how do you "cash out"?

You don't really cash out, you just go to the casino cashier and ask for some amount of cash charged to your on board account. They will give you the cash and add 3% to the charge on your account.

Sorry but I don't understand this. There are obvious distinctions between different forms of OBC being discussed but I don't understand.

(1) Double points for an RCI BOA credit card (2) and becoming usable OBC during trip?

If / when you have the time could you explain this?

Thank you.

It is not worth the service fee just to get double points on your on board purchases. Say you cash out $500. That costs you $15 in the casino. If you spend $500 on the credit card you get 1000 points. That means you are paying $15 for 1000 points. Since you are using points for OBC, you would only get back $10 for those points. Makes no sense at all!

There are 2 types of OBC that you can receive. All OBC is useable while on board. Non-refundable is used first followed by refundable.

Non-refundable is any OBC that is generated by RCI and that would include OBC from booking a cruise while on a cruise or from Shareholder Benefits. The only way to get any unused OBC of this type back is to go to the casino and pay a 3% service fee when cashing out against your account.

Refundable OBC is any OBC that is generated by redeeming Visa Points, gift from family and friends or TA, etc. You can request any left over OBC from Guest Relations the day prior to debarkation with no service fee.

If you are using a RCI Visa Card when you check-in and you have refundable OBC remaining on your account at the end of your cruise it will automatically transfer as a credit to your credit card. Because it is an RCI transaction you will lose "double" points on your card, just like you earn double points when making an RCI transaction.
