Solo cruiser--do you have to pay double occupancy rate?

Recommended Posts

When I have booked solo, I've checked fares on CCL, RCL and NCL and everytime CCL still comes out much cheaper even at 200%. I think in the end it all depends on how much you want to pay for your total fare. The other lines may offer 125% and 150% but it their base fares are higher, then CCL at 200% still comes out cheaper.

Ive watched and gotten some 0% solo supplements on RCL. This spring for instance insides $319, OVs, $410 and balconys $669 with no solo supplement.

I paid $429.XX total for 7 days on Navigator out of New Orleans with $100 OBC for owning RCL stock. (or I could have booked the balcony and used the bigger balcony discount for my loyalty level)

You need to check each category on RCL as insides might be 175% and balconys 0%.

People's mistake is saying .. well USUALLY Carnival is cheaper. I look for the deals and take those dates. I dont need the other 9 that are more expensive, just one or two deals at a time to book.

Some of you are not understanding

for example, 2 cruises. 1 Carnival, 1 Royal Caribbean

They both cost $750pp plus tax if you look online

The port charge embedded in each $750 fare is $150pp for example

Base fare on both is $600pp plus $150 port fee making the $750

A solo on Carnival pays $750 twice plus one tax

A solo on RCL pays $750 once and $600 once plus one tax

Total cost on Carnival is $1500 plus 1 tax

Total cost on RCL is $1350 plus one tax

Thanks Firefly. I will check by category. I usually do check insides as a starting point. I didn't think to check the balconys.

How do I do that?

There is a TA site that shows the solo supplements.. unfortunately Im not allowed to post it on this site as its considered advertising.

It does show the bottom category if you just scan down the line.. you do have to click into each one on RCL to see each category specifically.

If you are only 3 weeks out, you better go ahead and book before the ship sales out...

I booked my Aunt yesterday. My parents have an Aft extended balcony and we have an interior right by them. There were some other balconies available near my parents and across from us, so my Aunt decided to just spend more money and have a cabin right by us. It was her money so I had to get over the fact that she spent as much for her 1 person than we spent for an interior (with a casino discount) for 4 people. She's apparently giving herself a nice 60th birthday gift. :D

Glad you got her booked before it was sold out! Have a fun time!
