Carnival - king of the YouTube brawls

wow I fine it very interesting that the comments below the videos change drastically depending on the race of the people fighting

Sadly the internet brings out the worst in people sometimes and gives a forum for people to voice ideas and beliefs they would be ashamed to admit in person.

That's the type of thing that is worrying us, especially if I'm understanding your description of "thugs" correctly.

Carnival is fast getting that reputation from what I'm seeing.

Time to check out the other cruise lines for last minute deals I think.

I've been on lots of cruises and never encountered that before or since. Very isolated.

Out of curiosity I typed "cruise fights" into the YouTube search engine and was presented with a litany of uploaded cell phone videos featuring brawls on cruise ships.

With only one exception the featured cruise line was always Carnival.

Are standards of behavior really that bad on Carnival these days, I'm about to book a last minute deal with them not having cruised with Carnival for 10 years and it's giving me reason to re-think.

Anyone have first hand experience compared to other cruise lines?

Sadly, any brawl-type behavior we have ever witnessed has been on Carnival. The issue isn't really the violence, which could happen on any line, but how the line deals with it. From what I understand RCI has a ZERO tolerance policy. Carnival is in no way consistant with handlign these situations.....

What??? Now we have dryer hoggers? I thought chair hoggers were the limit - oh nos we got dryer hoggers now! I'm sending my laundry out - I'll pack enough undies to get me through, all else, I don't care!;)

I had a sort of run in last week on the Splendor over a washing machine! I went to the laundry room on level 2 near my cabin. Three washers and one wasn't working. I checked time left on one and planned to be back just before it was done. I returned when there was one minute left and a guy came in behind me and said oh good, I can finally do my wash. I said, yeah the other will be done in 15 minutes. He said no, I'm using that one. I said no, I was. Then he said he was there 15 minutes earlier and it's his. I said really? 3000 people on ship, it needs to be first come first serve. If I had returned and someone was ahead of me by a minute, then they get it.

Anyway, I took the high road and gave it up but I did accuse him of probably being a chair hog!

Have seen 2 fights. Both on Carnival ships. One was very, VERY funny. One was not.

The funny one was a couple in the dining room at breakfast. Apparently, Wifey had some BIG losses at the casino the night before, and her husband was very upset about it. They started screaming at each other. What happened next was crazy. Wifey thought she would pay him back with her jewelry. So she starts pulling off her jewelry and hurling it at him. "Here! I give you THIS!" Big chunky earring flies across the table. "I give you THIS!" Bracelet hits him in the chest. "I give you THIS!" The other earring goes flying at him. And on and on...

We were at the very next table and it actually got quite uncomfortable to witness. The dining room staff wasn't doing anything, and one of our friends went up to the hostess station to ask them to please get the couple to calm down, shut up, or leave.

The other fight has my dear Sis convinced that Carnival is a cruise line for thugs. :( I had convinced her it was a great cruise line, and took her & her family on their first Carnival cruise, 7 days on the Valor. Two guys, apparently well lubricated from their afternoon on the beach, got into it, in the security line coming back to board the ship. They knocked into her and she fell down. She was NOT happy and says she probably won't cruise Carnival again.

I was almost in a fight once, at the end of our 7 day cruise, the staff insisted that I get off the ship so the new passengers could get on. I didn't know exactly how many of the staff it would take to physically throw me off the ship, but since I knew about how many they planned to use, I gave up and went peacefully.

Other than that, I have seen no problems on any of our cruises.

Watch the whole thing its pretty funny

EDIT : Note the band saying no fighting :)

don't you think security took way to long to remove her? I wonder if they have a policy on how to handle this behavior.

I am guessing they happen late at night.

I have not seen or even heard of one of all the cruises I have been on.

I am also usually in my cabin by midnight and do not close out bars....

Yes..the fights

(and most other social malfunctions including nasty auto crashes)

are predictably After Midnight! :)

Is there drinking involved on cruises? Yes.

Given that some people are just fighting drunks it's inevitable that some fights will occur.

I've never seen one on a cruise but I don't doubt they happen.

I've seen a fight break out in a room full of Army officers because one guy was drunk and thought someone flipped him off.

I'm pretty sure fights happen anywhere that alcohol is served in large quantities,

and I say that as someone who enjoys drinking a little more than usual while on a cruise.

It's a lovely drug, isn't it?

Thank God it's legal because...can you imagine the problems if it were illegal?

Oh...we went thru that once already. Didn't learn much from it

but we did go thru that once already.

We do so enjoy a good Prohibition! -now enduring Prohibition v. 2.0 of course...

Out of curiosity, I looked at your past posts. You asked this similar question back in 2010. Stirring the pot?

Not funny at all.

Wondering why she wasn't put in handcuffs, taken down to level 0 -and put in the BRIG

and possibly put off the ship at the next port of call.

What a horrible aggressive little cat!

If I was her husband/boyfriend I would have been seriously embarrassed.

Yes, Security took WAY too long to remove her!

Their policy is probably to (firstly) try to separate the combatants

and try to calm things down, nicely

-but this aggressor repeatedly tried to get back at her "enemy"

In the end, they clearly got fed-up with her and rough-housed her away.

I hope she was taken down to Deck 0.

Im sure she was in the brig after that and after she woke up from her nap chances are she was kicked off at the next port

The boyfriend was a pro he didn't even spill his bud light not even a drop :)

The band in between verses through out a little" don't fight "

It was funny ;)

Anyone else find it ironic that during the fight, "One Love" was playing the whole time? LOL

Sadly, as rare as this is, this is why Carnival has their stereotypical reputation. I've never seen anything remotely close to this, but all it takes is one or two videos for everyone to say Carnival is a "party ship" full of drunks that fight.

Just off the Dream 8/24 -9/1 saw 2 arguments that resulted in pushing and shoving. 1st in the upper level of the show over seating and the 2nd on the lido deck late at night. The Dream has some characters on it due to the low prices, I for 1 will look to cruise on anther line next. Just my 2cents dont beat me up been on 5 carnival cruises just dont like the Dream
