nekicheese Posted September 26, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 26, 2013 We will be cruising in our first cabin with a balcony and thought it would be cool to take the mattress out onto the balcony. Has anyone ever dared do this?

cb at sea Posted September 26, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 26, 2013 Not cool at all....in the early hours, they wash the ship....you'll get wet! Not to mention the damp, salt air....it will ruin the mattress! And, unless you have an aft balcony, there's no room! So, fall asleep in the chair, but don't take the mattress out there! Toddcan Posted September 26, 2013 #4 Share Posted September 26, 2013 On our last cruise, we had an aft balcony, and we could see down onto about 1/3 of the balcony below. On 2 of the mornings, there were people sleeping on the balcony, but they just slept on the lounger. It's really quite muggy out there and in the morning, there is typically a lot of condensation/dew (assuming a Caribbean cruise). I'd never sleep out there - the inside bed is just too comfy - and who needs a bad night's sleep on a cruise? Not me.
ryano Posted September 26, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 26, 2013 Just when you thought every possible thing that could ever be asked about cruising has been asked here.
leaveitallbehind Posted September 26, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 26, 2013 Absolutely not. Not remotely cool!
blazerjan Posted September 26, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 26, 2013 I have a friend who took the bedspread & blanket off the bed and slept on the floor of her balcony... I'm sorry but I don't remember which cruise line she was on. As for me... no thank you.
PhoenixCruiser Posted September 26, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 26, 2013 Not cool at all. Reminds me of camping, not cruising. ###

reedl Posted September 26, 2013 #10 Share Posted September 26, 2013 How about bringing an air mattress with you and sleeping out there with that? But I would not do it. I prefer my cabin which is nicely air conditioned. Although seeing this post reminded me of the Carnival ship that was disabled. There were many who were sleeping outside because of the stench and heat.
ohiogymrat Posted September 26, 2013 #11 Share Posted September 26, 2013 While not what the OP was talking about, but some of the luxury lines have taken sleeping outside to a whole new level SeaDreams The World Bali Beds
leaveitallbehind Posted September 26, 2013 #12 Share Posted September 26, 2013 While not what the OP was talking about, but some of the luxury lines have taken sleeping outside to a whole new level SeaDreams The World Bali Beds That happens to be Residence Sea where the very expensive staterooms are owned as residences (or for rental) by their wealthy owners. Not really a "luxury liner". And certainly a little different than dragging a mattress out of a cruise ship stateroom and flopping it on the balcony deck. ;)
uncle John Posted September 26, 2013 #13 Share Posted September 26, 2013 I have had people sleep on the upper sundecks on the loungers and on their balcony loungers even the solarium but NEVER on their bed on a balcony. Talk a bout a CHARGE BACK or cleaning fee:eek:.

avonmill Posted September 26, 2013 #15 Share Posted September 26, 2013 Please remember that other people have to use this mattress and bedding. Consideration would be appreciated.
TonyFred Posted September 26, 2013 #16 Share Posted September 26, 2013 I wanted to take my mattress out there but all of my fishin gear and bait was in the way. :D
ssb Posted September 26, 2013 #17 Share Posted September 26, 2013 Unless you have jr suite and above or have one of a certain few cabins that do have larger balconies it probably would not fit out there? Maybe a single would! Im sure it is against policy! Join the Balcony Club

melbur Posted September 26, 2013 #19 Share Posted September 26, 2013 When we do a girls cruise, one of the gals always sleeps on the balcony - the cabin steward gets her a lounger, uses a duvet for a mattress pad, and makes it up like it's a regular bed.

Big_G Posted September 26, 2013 #21 Share Posted September 26, 2013 If you must, I'd wait until after January 1st. By then the chances of getting hit with errant cigarette ashes will be much less. :D

Charger2008 Posted September 26, 2013 #23 Share Posted September 26, 2013 While not what the OP was talking about, but some of the luxury lines have taken sleeping outside to a whole new level SeaDreams The World Bali Beds Since they pay so much to live on this ship, do you think they get to wear shorts in the dining room? AAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA - sorry, couldn't resist. The entire ship cost 5 billion dollars to produce and with all of its modern features and resources available, this “Residence at Sea” could also be dubbed “the floating city”. - See more at: http://thegreatestrealestateblog.com/2011/09/the-world-residences-at-sea/#sthash.6Hp6PWhi.dpuf
