Mosaic music

My roll call says live music, other than the nightly shows, has been eliminated from the Quest. Is this true???? We love going to the Mosaic after supper and listening, dancing, singing along with, the piano player, guitar player/vocalist, in that area. If the buzz is true I am shocked and disappointed.

Hi Fortworther,

I've read a number of recent posts on other sites, mentionining the Piano performers, though I seem to recall something about the Piano being moved to a location near the entrance of the casino. I hope any talk about elimination is untrue. I doubt there's anything to it - hopefully, Bill will confirm.

There is plenty of live music, just not in Mosaic as apparently there's a large number of passengers who've indicated on their evaluation forms that they prefer to have a quiet conversation over coffee or read a book, as opposed to being entertained. There's live music in Club Deluxe, Discoveries, the outdoor dining area at the buffet (in good weather) and of course up on deck 10 forward.

The piano is now in Club Deluxe (Quest) and Discoveries (Journey). I guess they will soon get it to the same spot in both, if they haven't already done so.

I think it would have been nice to have some music in Mosaic before dinner.

Friends we cruised with who are frequent Azamara cruisers said they really missed the piano. It needn't be loud. You can still have a conversation with some lovely background music.

The real sad thing here is that special lighting was put in on the Quest for the piano to stay in the Mosaic-saw it woith my own eyes.

for all of 2013 the piano has beenin the casino bar area on the Quest. I hate it in there. the furniture is awful- uncomforable and lack of service most ngihts compared to the coffee bar!

Therre is no music in The Discovery's lounge nor has there beenn for months.

As far as the Journey goes i have been told the piano walked around again and also is lsot in the casino bar.If it was not for Max I would not even walk in there. when he not there I just walk thru it.

I am getting used to Max and his Piano being in the Casino Luxe now but I would still prefer it to be in Mosaic. However I was told that the move was due to a safety issue and the wiring in Casino Luxe has been specially adapted to cut off all the music in the event of an incident at sea so that Bridge announcements can be heard immediately. According to a man who knows this is where the Piano will be situated now and we will have to get used to it. :(

What REALLY annoys me is the two big TV's that play American Sports constantly and are always switched on in Casino Luxe.....even when Max is playing. I think it is disrespectful to Max and not at all in keeping with the ambience that should be created in a Piano Bar.

I haven't been on Azamara since the recent refurbs and did not know there even was such a thing as Club Deluxe. :o

I suppose I can get used to a relocated piano bar if I must. But no TV please. Maybe we can find the "off" button. And please ensure service as good as it is/was in the Mosaic.

I have received a message from on board the Quest today.

Guitarist is in the Looking Glass. The pianist is in the Casino bar & the Mosaic lounge is now a quiet area for coffee etc.,.

I do not know the logistics of the ship & wonder where Casino Bar is, as Casinos are the thing I like least about ships, is this bar in the Casino?

Thank you.

This is the Casino Bar. You can just see the piano in the corner. The (very small) casino area is behind and the bar is to the left. The TV was off when we took this pic!!

Just off the Quest. We spent a lot of time in Club Luxe in the evening as we enjoyed listening to Max, the piano player.

Much preferred the piano being in Mosaic which is the heart of the ship but IMO this location is rather soulless at night now.

funny, most guests want the paino back where it belongs. But Mia thinks they know it all. plus just ask Max about the new lighting!

We just got off the Journey, and since we boarded on Oct. 1 the piano has been in Club Luxe in the aft port corner, aft of the bar. It was not competing with TV's or slot machines, and was enjoyable, but I would still prefer the Mosaic location.

Hello Live Music Followers -

Here is the response from our Miami based Manager of Hotel Operations:

Each day, we have live music in the following:

§ Casino Bar

§ The Sunset Bar, and

§ The Looking Glass.

Also, we have a piano player, a guitarist, the lead singer shows, the cruise director shows, the production shows, the guest entertainer shows and sometimes a local show.

Enjoy!

Regards,

Bill Leiber

Well, upon reflection, I realized that I booked a cabin on deck six just to get away from the piano in the Mosaic and now it has moved.:( Currently my cabin is directly above the photo shop (or at least what once was the photo shop) but perilously close to the casino piano area. Thinking about requesting a different room aft to be over the old piano area in the Mosaic. I hope this is an improvement and not just change because you can....old timers like me don't care for change for the sake of it.

Got to be. Who sits up at 11 at night and reads a book in dim light? Waste of a good venue. Dadgum shame, why mess with what everyone loved about Azamara over Oceania R ships? Can't be too much work to move the piano and some furniture back. Give the casino bar back to the footballers and give us our Mosaic evenings back. Come on Azamara, admit you screwed up and don't stonewall. This is not Washington DC, you can fix this, and easily.

Will be interested to see how this shapes up on Journey shortly. But given what Lottie said, maybe MIA do know it all - if there were safety issues that has to be the No 1 concern.

Personally, I love the entertainment experience, but did not always enjoy the fact that the piano playing was in such a central walkway, chattering guests walking through might disturb things and I always felt awkward walking through myself when an entertainer was in full song, it felt discourteous but not always could I stop and listen -I had to get from A to B. There were also times when a popular entertainer was performing that it was difficult to walk through, particularly noticed those with walkers having issue; also saw standing on the stairs which again would maybe give health and safety valid concerns. I also felt that asking for an alcoholic drink took staff away from general service in the area and I suppose now, in the new location, that should be less of an issue (though of course getting coffees could be slower).

So for me now, the focus looks like being on ensuring that the Sports TV is off during the evening (and maybe a new location found for that) and that there is adequate staffing in the lounge to make it an enjoyable experience re drinks service. There is little point in asking for the change to be undone, it won't be and there seems to be good reason why.

I can promise you the people on deck 4 who are the worker bees- love the peace and quiet of not having the piano where it was.

Irarely sat in the coffee bar at all now- if i did it was at 1030 at night and i mostly was grabbing tea to take to hear Max.

i never had a problem walking thru and waving to who ever was playing. now when i am tired or going to do something else i wake thru the casino and wave to Max.

the sad thing the casino has the worse furniture on the ship.. i have to add pillows to sit and i am petite and find the chairs awful but the sofa is worse- i feel likei am going to take a nap on it just because it was not made for short people. the furniture shouldbe nice dining height tables and chairs to have a drink on.

lastly one night i had to sit on the fireplace bar/brench so u could hear Max play.. space was not made for music.

Move the piano out of the casino bar! This location has about as much ambiance as a NYC subway car: people walking thru constantly; the slot machines making their insensate racket; and lousy seating. I have experienced at least 15 different piano bars on ships because that's what we like to listen to after dinner. Nothing better than a good scotch and a good piano. After 3 weeks on the Quest in August, this is clearly the worst bar & location I have ever encountered.

I feel sorry for Max trying to compete with the disruptions and noise of the casino. He attempts to overcome the noise by cranking up his volume. This only makes the situation worse and actually contributes to the lack of ambiance.

Move the piano to the Discoveries Lounge or Mosaic until suitable space/bar is hopefully created in the dry-dock--if it takes place.

this news of cutting back on live music is not good for us. We like to do some dancing also..and from the sounds of it, think we will be disappointed on our upcoming cruise in November on the Quest. We also have booked another cruise on the Quest in March...if we find the changes to be too negative..we'll probably cancel and look for something else. We have really enjoyed our other Azamara cruises....and we love to have cocktails and wine. But, we'd rather pay for those than have the cruise line cut back on providing good entertainment and ambiance during a cruise!

i think that we are probably all reacting to change that we don't like. but the product will be OK, just slightly different. i don't like the piano move to the casino. i don't like casinos except for an occasional round of blackjack and the last time i did that on the Journey the guy next to me, who must have been a zillionaire from his appearance, yelled at me for costing him money. a real twit and i have not been back to the tables since. i also don't buy all this health and safety excuse stuff. the piano didn't block ingress/egress in the Mosaic. speaker changes to permit announcements are wiring changes that they allegedly had to make regardless of location. in my former life i dealt with HSE zealots, and it was hard to resist their arguments but one can do so. just a bad decision that is easily reversed but not on this cruise so i will get up and go to Mosaic and get my Irish coffee if I must but i hope the service will adjust as must we all, for now.
