alwaysfrantic Posted December 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 11, 2013 I mailed the requested information Saturday from the east coast and had an email confirmation from Seattle today. Easy-Peasy. I worried about not emailing it, but it worked quickly and efficiently. Good job, HAL.

ginger and professor Posted December 25, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 25, 2013 I agree with faxing. The reply is usually very quick and you can print a hard copy just in case there is a mix up.
YubaSutter Posted December 25, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 25, 2013 I generally fax mine in the morning and its applied that same day. Even easier than mail.

KirkNC Posted December 25, 2013 #10 Share Posted December 25, 2013 It is great perk to get ..if you cruise a lot .. We have received several thousand dollars in credits. Soon we will own the stock with $0 basis due to the credits.
RuthC Posted December 25, 2013 #11 Share Posted December 25, 2013 Soon we will own the stock with $0 basis due to the credits. What? Hold the phone, here. Are you saying that the on-board stockholder credit impacts the stock basis when it comes to calculating capital gains?
Rare TiogaCruiser Posted December 25, 2013 #12 Share Posted December 25, 2013 What? Hold the phone, here. Are you saying that the on-board stockholder credit impacts the stock basis when it comes to calculating capital gains? I took that to mean they had used it enough to cover the initial investment. Rare whogo Posted December 25, 2013 #13 Share Posted December 25, 2013 Any accountants, IRS employees or former IRS employees want to weigh in on the tax ramifications of CCL shareholder benefit?
ScriptOhio Posted December 25, 2013 #14 Share Posted December 25, 2013 I took that to mean they had used it enough to cover the initial investment. I bought 100 shares back in 2004 for $4,086.00 (i.e. $40.86 per share). The stock value has gone down a little since then; however, so far, I have gotten $5,725.00 in shipboard credits and still have more CCL cruises to take. And that doesn't count the quarterly dividends. So in our case, even though the stock price has gone down (hopefully only temporarily), it still has been a VERY good investment too. Note: CCL shareholder benefits (i.e. the shipboard credit) are combinable with other cruise line promotions and are even good for charter cruises. Royal Caribbean's shareholder benefits are not. RuthC Posted December 26, 2013 #15 Share Posted December 26, 2013 I took that to mean they had used it enough to cover the initial investment. I hope that's what was meant. It's not the same as bringing the basis down to zero, but a misspoken statement is better than a real basis reduction
SeaBands Posted December 26, 2013 #16 Share Posted December 26, 2013 Too bad I paid $48. but obcs have more than made up for that as well as $100 a year in dividends.
