What would you eliminate on CCL to get a 25% fare reduction across the board

We're happy with how things are, can't think of anything that would amount to 25% of the fare.

Appalled by a few of these responses however:  Pools, kids' Clubs, shows, mdr, lido deck Tv... What the heck, are you people kidding! How about they get rid of the shops, casino and bars while they are at it? My goodness.

APPALLED!!!!

Some people on this board sure do get APPALLED easily. The other posters are just throwing out ideas to try to answer the OP's original question; How can Carnival cut prices by 25%? So if that's the goal, major onboard expenses must be cut (Assuming CCL won't be cutting Senior Management's salaries and bonuses ;) ). Well, the big onboard expenses are fuel, people and food, and they only add up about half your ticket price. If you do the math, if we cut out 50% of these costs you get close to that 25% overall cost cutting goal. So that means laying off about half the ship staff, don't burn half the fuel and cut down food costs by half. Frankly, most of the ideas put forth so far don't even come close to the original goal yet. So if you are APPALLED by some of the ideas so far just wait until the posters start thinking BIG.

For me, leave it the way it is and I'll cruise when I save up enough for another one. I wouldn't think of buying a car without a heater/ A/C or power steering/brakes, radio etc. just to lower the price. Why would I want to cheapen a cruise just so I could afford it.

My lifelong dream is to own a Corvette. I can't afford it so it will always be my dream. I can live with that. I can however save enough for a cruise every other year and I can live with that too.

Before you say "Quit cruising and buy the Vette", cruising takes priority over a car that I probably wouldn't be able to get my old fat hiney out of it anyway!

Don't be appalled. Some people are trying to hard to be forum comedians. As I said as well as you, I wouldn't change anything in order to save 25%.

There are amenities included that I don't use.

1. I have never used the pool.

2. We went to a couple of the shows. The shows were awful and we don't go anymore.

3. I rarely use room service.

4. I don't need the entertainment staff.

5. I don't need their bathrobe.

6. I don't use their shampoo.

7. We have never used kid club.

8. We don't use the tv in the room.

Back in the olden days when we did our first cruise, there was no tv in the room, room service brought cokes and sandwiches and that was about it, there was one dining room and no buffet, there was nothing for kids, there was a show on one night of the seven day cruise, ice cream was available on deck at four o' clock and there was no gym.

There was one bar and there was no casino.

There were no sail and sign cards and you used actual money.

People entertained themselves...Oh the horror!!

I think now there a lot of people never who never learned to entertain themselves.

Kind of sad actually.

I do remember limbo dancing on deck, horse race games, diving for spoons in the pool, and other silly stuff.

There was bingo for trinkets and you did not have to pay extra to play.

I don't really remember what I did actually.

But I wasn't bored.

MDR should be discontinued "as is"........

On NCL they have The Blue Lagoon....with a limited selection of comfort food.

Do something like that....a casual restaurant.....with service....but limited options.

So away with table cloths & fancy tableware.

No early/late seating....come when you're ready.

Maybe Carnival should take one of their ships and make the changes mentioned. Reduce the price by 25%. See if the ship sells out and measure the number of repeat customers to the same ship.

I would guess it would be very few. I have enjoyed their product many times and keep coming back. It has been four years since I have sailed with Carnival. It will be intresting to see how the product measures up to past sailings.

Don't really need more cuts.

BUT. . .

Eliminate the Specialty Shops,

Eliminate the Specialty Restaurants

Eliminate the Kids Club

Fire the Disc Jockey.

And most important Get Rid of the Noise Machine called the Big TV on Lido Deck.

Eliminating the speciality shops nd restaurants would cause your fare to go UP as they generate revenue.

My husband said to eliminate the booze!

Just kidding! That is one of the major money makers of a cruise line. I cannot believe how much alcohol people drink.

I am very happy with Carnival's prices. I do not use everything but just because I don't get in the pool I don't want to see it eliminated.

If you shop well, you can get very good deals on Carnival. I just booked a 4 day cruise, airfare from Detroit, a hotel, parking at the airport, and shuttle for under $1000.00 for the two of us. Yes, it is an inside cabin, how much time do I spend in there? I enjoy the balcony when we come into port in the morning, other than that I am playing elsewhere. If it is the difference between going on a cruise or staying home, I will book an inside. (We are paying for a wedding this coming year, we had decided on NO vacation until I promised to make this cruise under $1000.00.)

I don't dirty anything. Heck my bathroom at home only gets cleaned once a week. My towel gets washed once a week. My bed gets changed once a week. On a week's cruise I could EASILY go 3-4 DAYS without having my room visited. Just put the Funship notice in the holder outside my door and go on about your business.

Note: I think we SHOULD be able to ask for extra towels if we need them.

I would not eliminate anything for the reduction. I would eliminate stuff to get other stuff.

All of this is just my preference. I get zero from the CD. I do not do the main shows. I do not go to the piano bar. I do not do karaoke. I do not do the movie screen by the pool. I do not do the pools. I do not do the hot tubs. I do not do casino. I do not do the spa. I do not use the kids club. Get rid of all that, except the revenue generating casino and spa and get me better and more comedians. Better food, steel band when in the Caribbean and most importantly more port times.......Or trade all that in for a tablecloth. I will give up my private bathroom and ports for my coveted tablecloth!!

I know I am in the minority with these wishes, but one can dream can't they?

So get rid of the booze to keep this from happening. Have you taken a water sample to confirm your post? The pools are crowded at times, but it won't stop us.

Because the pools and hot tubs are small and crowded. It's like taking a dip in an urinal.

I once saw 9 college aged people sit in a hot tub for about 4 hours. They were all pounding buckets of beer. Not once did I see any of them get up and go to the bathroom 50 feet away. I was sitting nearby reading the whole time. You don't think anyone pees in the pool?

Hot tubs are not okay to pee in. The volume of water is not sufficient to dilute the urine. But peeing in a salt water pool -while seemingly gross - is quite harmless.

I GO IT!! Instead of a 25% reduction to eliminate something, I will pay 25% more to eliminate a few things.

Complainers.

Drunks.

Brats.

Inconsiderate smokers. (emphasis on inconsiderate)

Bullies.

I really don't think the 25% reduction is feasible but these are the things I could do without.

  • Eliminate Bathrobes
  • Eliminate Shampoo/Soap in the showers, get companies to sponsor small samples with advertising for them included in the cabins.
  • Eliminate DJ's and a lot of activities that require all the Assistant CD's
  • Make dining in the MDR have a small fee or limit it to one appetizer, entrée and dessert per person. If people are still hungry they can visit the buffet.

I wouldn't ask them to change anything for me in either direction, to lower or raise the cost of my cruise. As a business they can do what they think is best for their business. As a customer I can choose to stay with them or go with another cruise line.

GO MIZZOU!!!!!!!
