What happens when one cabinmate is diagnosed with noro?

With noro making its way through our household this weekend, it has gotten me thinking how miserable it would be confined to a tiny room with one or more people :eek:. My heart goes out to those who have had their vacations ruined by it! It's bad enough having it in the comfort of your home.

 

How is it handled when one person in the cabin comes down with noro, but the others haven't? Is the entire cabin quarantined anyways? And if not, are the other cabinmates left to accidentally spread it to outsiders?

From past experience everyone in the cabin is quarantined for 2-3 days. Miserable !!

My sister was quarantined in her cabin for 3 days, but her room-mate was not.

On the Legend Members cruise earlier this month one in our group was quarantined while her roommate was not.......One evening when she didn't call room service for dinner they called her.....they were also advised they could consume whatever they wanted from the 'chiller/fridge/cooler' (whatever you want to call it) for free since it would be tossed at the end of the cruise.

We had a number of folks that came down with noro. Last few days we were being served in the Windjammer. When we were disembarking the cabin attendants were all dressed in 'haz-mat' suits and disinfecting every room and all public areas of the ship.

I was quarantined for two days last September, however my husband and daughter were not.

I was quarantined for 36hours two years ago but my wife, who had no symptoms at all was not.

On our last cruise (Mariner, 2008), our son got sick and was quarantined for 48 hours and we were quarantined for 24 hours (not sick, but to make sure). Thank goodness we had a balcony to save our sanity.

I can understand the reason for quarantine. But being quarantined in an inside cabin with the tv playing the same episode every single day and the other episodes being not in English - I would go stir crazy.

I can understand the reason for quarantine. But being quarantined in an inside cabin with the tv playing the same episode every single day and the other episodes being not in English - I would go stir crazy.

 

They gave us all the free pay per view movies that we wanted and anything from room service. It was kind of ridiculous when we ordered dinner (same courses as we would have in the MDR) - it ended up being four trays!

 

They also gave us some future cruise credit certificates, but unfortunately we were not able to use them before they expired :(

Mr Chew has had Noro twice (both times during long cruises with HAL) ... I think he caught it from the casino, which never closes even during Code Red.

 

I had no symptoms and I was not quarantined. That seemed really strange to me, because I assume I had to be carrying some of the germs on me somewhere.

 

I made no attempt myself to clean up after Mr Chew, but let the bio-team handle it. I slept on the couch, sat & read on the balcony, used room service, and only ventured out a few times, being very careful what I touched and not going anywhere crowded. I washed my hands over & over & over again. Didn't get sick either time.

 

The first time Mr Chew was out of it for two days then it took him another two days to fully recuperate. The second time, he became sick the night before our last sea day before disembarking. Great timing! I had to do all the packing etc myself, after a 75-day cruise!!

Last week on Oasis when we got ill this is how it went down.

 

Mom got it and was confined to her room. They did not confine dad however. He pretty much stayed in the room taking care of her and not venturing out much in case he was contagious. Probably just as well because he ended up sick the next day.

 

Oasis keeps the person isolated in their room until 24 hours had passed from the last time they vomited. After that they lifted isolation.

On Allure in Jan./13, I was quarantined and my DH not. DH didn't get it.

The CD on one of my cruises pointed out that the spouse/sig other/roomie of the sick person almost never gets sick ... I thought about it and realized it was true ... maybe because you become so aware of hand washing??

I'd like to introduce him to my family who has always been good about hand washing, was extra good about it when the first in our family went down with it last week and even still the rest of us (two couples, two children all in 3 separate cabins) got sick.

 

We are the ones who obviously broke his "almost never" claim and with abundance! LOL!

If in port your Seapass card will sound an alert in the scanners if you try to get off the boat. I know this because they forgot to lift the isolation on my card and when I tried to disembark on Saturday it honked and said "isolation".

 

Other than that I think it has to be honor system elsewhere on the ship. But really, if you are sick with this you do not want to be going anywhere. You feel too crummy.

A couple of years ago my wife was quarantibes for 24 hours. They told me to spend as little time as possible in the cabin. The cabin attendant made up the couch for me to sleep in and made the most of it.

I had about 2-3 calls from each, the medical clinic and front desk daily. So, if you were not in your cabin they would be wondering? Unless you were sleeping I guess, then they would leave a message I imagine and have someone check? They called the day I was to be released and asked about my symptoms and then said I was released.

Still didn't feel super great, so got some air and came back to the cabin to read on the deck.

If I could be lucky enough to go on a 75 day cruise,I'd pack for the whole deck!!:p:p:p

Fortunately, one of our perks for booking the whole 75 days was free, unlimited luggage shipment (via Fed Ex) from our house to the ship and back again! We only shipped two suitcases at the beginning, but shipped back four large suitcases and 3 or 4 boxes ... I did a lot of shopping on the trip!!

I was called several times through out the day too. I was also told that the ship was aware of my quarantine status, and room service who were instructed just to deliver dry toast and peppermint tea.

I was allowed free access to all the movie channels, and the mini bar too, although I only wanted the Evian which was replenished constantly.

All three of us in the cabin had part of our cruise fare refunded by way of a cruise certificate and I had a very nice letter thanking me for being so compliant.
