Has anyone ordered the "Fabulous Chocolate Chunk Brownies" for a gift?

Recommended Posts

I get snack cravings late at night, and on the Gifts and Gear section of ordering on-board gifts it says that for $19.95 (plus 15%) you can order 8 of these brownies. Has anyone ordered them? I'll be on the Enchantment next week and I guess I could bring chocolates and cookies from home for late night treats, unless someone says these are pretty good brownies?

What I do is one of two things:

(1) I ask for chocolate chip cookies when I am having dinner in the MDR, to have with my coffee....they always bring 4-6 of them. DH and I have 2, and take the rest back to cabin for late night snack....or to have with morning coffee which we order from room service for early delivery.

or

(2) I take a plate of desserts, including cookies, from the WJ -- as a snack stash in our cabin....sometimes a bowl of fruit....put it in the room frig. We empty out the frig, anyway and keep the items on the counter, so we are not charged for anything we actually did not drink.

I don't know if the brownies on the Gift order are different than those they serve to cruisers....but the brownies I have eaten are wonderful.

I have no idea about the brownies, but we are cruising on the Enchantment in Feb. and I already place my order for some of the vanilla cupcakes, a gift to my self, can't wait to try them.

YES, we have ordered them. They were "OK", but a little dry. We ended up not eating them all. We also ordered a chocolate cake which we found to be VERY good - nice a moist with lots of icing. We asked our room steward for clean plates and silverware every day, and we ate a small pc of cake a few nights before going to bed - it hit the spot!

Our kids ALWAYS drop by the Promenade Cafe on the way up to bed, or they order room service - their addiction is a couple of Chocolate Chip Cookies (included in the price of the cruise, so you pay nothing unless you get room service after a certain time - then there is a small charge for delivery)

I had the Vanilla Cupcakes delivered to my room on the Explorer and they were so good! The icing was Vanilla Bean!

*ahem* Well, others may be thinking it but I'm going to go ahead and say it.... :D:D:D I do not know why you would order 8 brownies for $23.00 for late night snacks, when there is more than enough to eat on board that is included in your cruise fare. I'm quite certain your snack cravings can be satisfied without purchasing this expensive item (obviously, IMO). Or, as you say, you can bring some pre-packaged goodies from home which you enjoy and know for sure are delicious and satisfying. :)

I don't disagree with you at all. As I pointed out in a previous post in this thread, I too need to have some munchies in my room for late night snacks, and there is plenty of food available around the ship to keep in my room for the need.

I am not opposed to ordering room service, but sometimes I just want the snack now, and don't want to wait for room service delivery. We have gotten into the habit of placing a room service order for early morning coffee, sometimes cereal and Danish/fruit...to enjoy before heading to breakfast or the gym.

I'm with you - although I will (blushingly) say that my brownies/cupcakes have both won baking contests and are probably better than anything I might purchase onboard. I do make it a habit of stopping by the Café Promenade after leaving the casino late at night for a couple of coconut ranger cookies. Even though there is a small charge for room service after midnight, it includes the tip that you'd be paying anyway, so pretty much a wash.

Sometimes you just get a hankering for a pc of chocolate cake, and then it's RIGHT THERE :)

We've taken a few extra cookies (free) from the Promenade Cafe too.

But.. the cake! it's soooooo good.

The cake? OP is talking about buying the brownies from Gifts and Gear -is that what you meant? 'cos no one mentioned chocolate cake... :D

Four words - Sunflower Seed Granola Bars! :)

Four more words - I totally, completely agree!

I brought a ziploc bag (for other reasons but it was repurposed) and we picked up some cookies at the Promenade cafe everytime we passed by and would put them in the ziploc bag. It kept them (or made them) soft and chewy and it was nice having a treat in our cabin whenever the craving hit.

Or, if you're looking for somthing really chocolately, order the chocolate and pear cake/tart from room service - it's very good.

Toddcan mentioned the cake...twice! :D While we love the cookies onboard, it is fun to have something waiting in the stateroom upon arrival. My friends raved about the red velvet cupcakes I sent to them on the Oasis. We always order chocolate covered strawberries. And could you please pass me a sunflower seed granola bar...? :D

I'm sure if you read the post I was replying too (I even quoted it for you!), the reference to chocolate cake (as a snack) makes sense. Sorry I didn't connect all the dots for you. ;)

lol. Glad you said it. Free good food avail virtually 24/7. Cant imaging paying for something like that. And how hungry are people that they cant wait for room service?

I wonder if the things you can buy are made by outside companies? I know this is the case with the desserts at Chops. On my last cruise on Indy they even mentioned where they get those desserts from (sorry can't remember).

I ask because if any of those items differs from or is not otherwise seen on the ship, I'll bet it is made off the boat.

Haven't had those, but the red velvet cupcakes are incredible. Even better than the ones from Cupcake Cupboard.

Ironically we were on the Allure that has Cupcake place onboard, when we found the red velvets and vanilla cupcakes sold through Gifts and Gear are (or were) commercially produced by Sweet Street Desserts in Reading, PA for Royal. They are delicious and we agree they are much better than those from the the Cupboard. Perhaps the brownies come from there as well. They have a website, check them out, they do have a fabulous chocolate chunk brownie.

yum... I love vanilla bean. Personally, i don't like a lot of chocolate, and you can go pretty much anywhere on a ship and get something covered in Chocolate...

I love these boards, you get all sorts of ideas, and find out so many different ways to enjoy a cruise and all it's fun, and food. Some people are very frugal, and some people don't mind spending a bit more to treat themselves. To each his own...

When I go on a cruise, I do try to be frugal to a point, but every now and then you got to treat yourself. (but I am not above slipping a good cookie into a pocket for later) But oh, I love a good cupcake, so yup, I ordered some for myself... Some people buy expensive watches and jewelry on board and some of us buy cupcakes and brownies. I won't judge!

My apologies to you, Todd; the dots were there and I didn't connect them. :o I have an ongoing health issue and am definitely pre-occupied these days.

I will try the chocolate cake next cruise. But I won't pay extra for brownies! :D:D:D heehee
