Rccl lost my bag - got no help

I left my toiletry bag in the bathroom of my stateroom when disembarking Brilliance of the Seas. I was told I could not get back on as I had cleared customs. As directed, I contacted Lost and Found while the Brilliance of the Seas was still in port at Tampa. They told they would investigate and get back to me. That was a week ago. I called Lost and Found 3 times this week and was told I would get a call back. To date, I have never received any call back from RCCL.

This is troubling as I had a large quantity of narcotics for chronic pain in my bag. My new $1200. eyeglasses was also in the bag.

I am totally disgusted with RCCL for their lack of any communications with me. Their lack of customer service to a loyal cruiser is unacceptable.

Any advice for me from the Cruise Critic community is appreciated

Get the name, date, and extension number of anyone you speak to, so at least you can hold someone accountable for communications.

I may not expect them to find my lost items, but I would expect communications from them if they said to expect them.

Based on posts here over the years, their track record on "lost and found" is not good, in fact it's bad. I left a new pair of eyeglasses in the room once and never got them back. I suppose their excuse is that they're cleaning 1500 rooms (or whatever) in a matter of hours and it's impossible to keep track of things like that. If they really wanted to they could do a better job. It seems pretty obvious that overall they just don't care:mad:

Good luck but I wouldn't get your hopes up. IF an employee actually turned it into "lost and found" maybe your odds are better than average if your name is on the prescription bottle.

Last June we forgot to pick up some confiscated items after we got through customs. It took a couple days to contact RCI and get to the right person. The items got shipped to us but it took a week or so.

That was something they took custody of that had your name on it. Lost and found is a whole different thing.

I would just like to know if they found the bag. I know where I left.

The room would have been checked before the new guests boarded.

Conclusion: They have a crew thief with a large quantity of narcotics.

There have been so many threads here on items left behind that are never returned, I've often wondered what the primary cause is:

1. The cleaning crew is in a mad dash to get the ship turned around in a matter of hours lots of things get thrown out?

2. Cleaning crews keep things they find?

3. Some things are turned in to the "lost and found" department if it exists, but there's a lack of effort to return them. And/or there are thieves there?

I suspect it's less theft, and more poor management and commitment to get things back to people.

Probably a combination of all of the above. Bottom line is, it's obvious RCCL puts a very low priority on operating a workable lost and found system.

As I said, if your name is on a prescription bottle, maybe your odds are better than average.

Yes, my name was on the prescription bottle.

Let's call it like it is. Both you and RCI lost your bag....not just them. You played a part in this as well by forgetting it on the ship.

That said, I do think the ship could have done a little more to help you considering you were trying to recover it while still at the port. They could have sent someone to the room to grab it for you.

At this point, I would write it off as lost. I think it is most likely that in the rush of turnaround day, the room attendant probably threw it away. On the other hand, maybe you'll get lucky and it'll be shipped to you after Customs give it thorough search.

The stewards are in a big hurry to clean the rooms and get them ready for the next guests. I doubt they are spending time looking for drugs in toiletry bags. More likely, if they see an item, they think it might be old stuff the guest did not want to carry home. Thinking of it as more trash, as another poster mentioned, many things may just be tossed.

Once, my husband realized he did left a watch (family item, though otherwise not valuable) and a key behind, likely in a small bag on the bed. He contacted lost and found. They called back a couple times, once about a key (not ours, but they tried). Never found any watch. I suspect it was bundled up in the sheets and sent to the laundry, likely destroying the watch. Somebody probably pitched the then worn, waterlogged watch. I do think lost and found tried.

You want advice....I suggest you just accept that you lost your meds; get refills. If the glasses do not come back, maybe your homeowner's insurance (I would not turn it into my homeowner's insurance, but some people might) or eyeglass protection plan (if you bought one) will cover the loss. And we all should be very careful to check and double check for lingering items before we depart any establishment anywhere.

While I empathize with you, I think at this point it's unlikely you will ever see your belongings again. You should definitely keep trying, because you never know, but at the same time you should be making arrangements to replace your medication and your glasses.

I do think your title is quite misleading. Royal Caribbean didn't lose your bag. You lost your bag by forgetting it. For Royal Caribbean to have lost your bag, it would have had to be under their supervision in the first place.

Lost items are funny in a way,My wife drove me crazy SHE LOST small jewelry bag said she left in the safe.We where not off ship yet ,I go back jewelry not there ,No one did anything in room I could see.So lost is lost ,She normaly packs good jewels and scripts. in carry on.When home we called RCL to no avail,we did get call back though .3 months later I'm on business looking in small pocket on suitcase for something I find jewelry.I wrapped them and gave to DW for birthday. With The torture I went through for the jewelry SHE MISPLACED I felt I payed twice anyhow.LOL

I hope your belongings are returned.

Not everything left behind is lost. My friend after a cruise on the Freedom. Realized when he got to MCO he had left his ring in the safe. He saw a RCL rep. at the airport. He talked to her. She made a phone call. The ring had been turned to L & F. A few days later the ring arrived at his home. The cabin steward found it and turned it in. Maybe you will get lucky.

My hubby forgot his wallet in the safe when we left Freedom in the summer, it took them over two hours to bring it to me while I sat on the curb outside the diamond doors. After my sugars had dropped to a 3 and my diabetes started to make me dizzy and the temp continued to sit at over 100 I FINALLY got the wallet back.

I wrote an email to tell them ( RCCL) how terrible I found their lost and found services to be.

They agreed and offered me some compensation towards our next cruise.

I know for us, they came through with a wonderful customer service rep and we ended up feeling heard which was really all I wanted.

Though the cabin is checked before new guests there much that happens long before that could mean the bag was taken by someone and not necessearly a cruise line employee. Once the room has been vacated the ***** attendent generally places a door stop in the cabin door and the room remains open while passengers has not fully disembarked. So at that time anyone can just walk into the room.

RCCL did not loose OP's bag, OP lost the bag by forgetting to take it.

Yep. Travel insurance. If you had it, open a claim and they'll pay out.

why always blame the crew?

On our TA my son left his new jacket on the lounge chair and 10 min. later it was gone.

Spend the whole trip asking the desk if someone turned in the Jacket. No,No.

The day we leave the ship all the cabin doors are open. So the crew start cleaning.

Could not a crook PAX see the items left and just scoop them up?

Last year while looking for something several days into a cruise I found a camera, battery charger and several pieces of jewelry in one of the mirrored storage areas above the desk in my cabin.

When I took the items to Guest Relations they checked a list of reported lost items and identified the owner. Since the owner was able to be identified they were returned by mail. Bottom line, things that are found and turned in are returned to their owner. Regrettably the Guest Relations person indicated very few found items are turned in, they are just kept by the person finding them.

This is not THEFT, as you left your bag on their ship. A theft means they came into your room while you occupied such room, and the person took your belongings without your permission... Finders keepers!

I use to work Lost and found at a major Nevada hotel casino, and there is a lot of truth in this part. In reality L&F is just not a very high priority.
