Oasis or Allure - being near stairs good idea?

We're planning our first trip on Oasis or Allure for our family of eight.

Have 2 seniors 70+ & 2 children <=10 yrs old.

We were on Freedom a few years ago as a couple & loved being near the stairs & eliminating the wait for the elevators.

But Oasis & Allure are bigger ships.

Is it still recommended to be near stairs on these 2 ships?

The hallways are very long so yes I would.

Yes I absolutely recommend being close to the stairs / elevator. Makes getting around so much quicker. If you will use the kids club a lot I would stay near the forward stairs - also great access to the solarium and hot tubs.

Follow-up questions:

Forward stairs or back stairs?

Are there long waits for elevators?

Any decks better than others?

Appreciate the feedback.

Regarding which stairs, it depends on what you want to be close to.

Forward stairs: Solarium, Solarium Cafe, Fitness Center, Entertainment Place.

Aft stairs: Boardwalk, Main Dining Room, Windjammer, Sports Deck.

The only deck I'd stay away from is deck 14 because I don't like being directly below the pool deck. Many people mention the convenience of deck 8, since that is the level of Central Park.

Generally speaking near the stairs is fine, but not on busy decks (in my opinion).

Example:

Deck 14 forward is the kids club. Makes sense that there would be more than average traffic near the forward stairs..

Same for deck 6 aft stairwells (Boardwalk), Deck 8 both stairwells (Central Park), Deck 3 both stairwells (dining room, ice rink, etc), and so on.

I would play it safe and pick a deck that has only cabins, or at least avoid the decks I just mentioned. Odds are you'll be fine either way, but it is something to think about.

Have to disagree with Deck 3 statement. We were on Deck 3 Ocean View midship for both Allure and Oasis. You won't have any activity in the hall from the the dining room. You can hear the music in the ice rink in the hall, but not in the cabin. And the midship cabins are fairly close to both elevators/stairwells. We thought it was a great location.

I stayed aft very close to the stairs on the Allure, on dreaded Deck 14!

I did not get woken up at night by noise, but then again maybe I was so tired from the day's activities;).

We were directly beneath the kids pool. The first time my wife took a nap in the afternoon, she complained that it was way too noisy. I noticed that the balcony door was closed, but not locked:eek:! Once she realized what had happened, she did not complain about noise on subsequent naps.

Being close to the stairs on Oasis class ships is very nice. Those hallways are looooong!!! I can see this being a major pain for those with mobility issues.

The best part about being on deck 14 aft was that the windjammer was really close. I would run up the stairs to grab a takeout breakfast to bring back to the room, thus avoiding all the long lines. Easy to get other snacks too.

Deck 6 and 8 near aft elevators are as quiet as anywhere on the ship

I have stayed on deck 6, near the aft elevator on the Oasis. I liked the location so well, that we have booked this same location on the Allure for our upcoming B2B this summer. It is quiet, and close to Dining room, Royal Promenade, casino, theater, Central park, and of course the Boardwalk. We would take the stairs to these locations. The pool deck and Windjammer are further away; we would use the elevators.

We were on deck 6 on oasis and was near aft stairs. Loved the location and how close we were to the water on the balcony!!!

Going on allure in April and took the same floor and aft area!!!

Very quite down that hallway and easy access to boardwalk and MDR!!

We stayed in 14162 (Oct. 2013) directly across from the door to the elevators/stairs and Kids Adventure and it was very quiet. Almost never a wait for an elevator. One floor up for hot tub, Solarium Bistro. We loved it and would do it again. Traveled through Central Park when headed to the Boardwalk.

Thank you all for the great feedback!

A lot of votes for aft stairs & a few for front.

But almost unanimous for being near the stairs!

This is exactly what I needed.

Bon Voyage.

Agreed. On my last trip I had the very last balcony on the starboard side near the aft. I paced it out to be almost 100 yards from that room to the stairs. It helped us lose calories consumed, but might be a bit much for senior since you have to use that hallway to go anywhere from your room. Never had a noise problem near the stairs.

Had an inside balcony facing Broadwalk on Oasis on Deck 14. Surprisingly, we rarely heard people on the deck above us at night since the flow rider and zipline were closed. We heard whatever movie or show that was playing at the Aquatheatre. My family and I loved it! Other than that, it was rather quiet, and we were close to the stairs and Windjammer.
