NCL What a rip off

I don't normally complain about a cruise line but this has me PO'D completely!!

I noticed that my cruise fare for April 6th, 2014 has dropped by $347. for the 2 of us.

When I called NCL (after waiting on the line for over an hour)they said that they will only give you 25% of the difference back. $80.00. No offer of an upgrade or anything else.

I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told by the supervisor that she couldn't talk to me at all because I had booked this thru a travel agent and that my TA needed to talk to them! HE HAS for 2 long days!!! He is the one that told me that they were only going to give me back $80.00.

REALLY? This is how NCL treats their customers? WOW!!!!

I will be writing a letter to Mr. Sheehan to voice my feelings and letting him know how nasty and rude his supervisors are.

If you are booked on NCL don't plan on getting any money back if your cabin price goes down a lot.

Not a happy person today,

Gerry

first you have a legally binding contract between you and ncl. had the price gone up they would not come back and ask for more money from you.

based on your post your cruise is past final payment date. all cruise lines cut off price adjustments at that point. the closer to sail date they get the lower prices get as they fire sale empty rooms. if you buy a car at the beginning of the model year you do not get back anything when the current year left overs are discounted when the next year comes in.

ncl is not allowed to talk with you directly if you book through a ts.

As it has been stated on her a zillion times, your cruise contract states that you are not entitled to an upgrade or OBC after final payment. Right before a cruise sails, the line has to lower prices if they need to fill the ship. Those taking advantage of the savings are those who are stuck with whatever cabins are left, and have risked that the cruise might have sold out already.

I usually fly United - never occurred to me to call them if the cost of my particular flight has gone down. Like cruising, folks paid different amounts for the flight, depending upon when they book. Costs fluctuate, which is why it's a good idea to do your homework before booking.

Why in the world wouldn't everyone book early if they knew they could get the lowest possible price right before sailing? I book early because we need connecting cabins, and I know that there is no way they will be available a month before the cruise sails. Sometimes, I pay more than last minute bookers, but sometimes I pay less.

First of all, your TA owns your NCL booking - you have to go through your TA.

Second - they OFFERED you OBC that you wouldn't have normally had.

Third - if you want to wait and HOPE your cruise doesn't sell out and HOPE the prices drop, then wait until last minute to book next time.

If you don't want to take the OBC offered (which was above and beyond what they are required to do), that's YOUR issue.

If the fare had increased, would you think it fair to be charged the increase?

I don't understand your complaint.

not to mention this guy obviously has not read the long list of posts where people have received substantial price drops on their cruises. i can't find he post but someone even said they got close to a 50% drop. i guess some people just enjoy complaining. i'd much rather spend my energy having fun on my cruise.

You (and NCL) are paying to TA to provide customer service to you and they are responsible for the customer service provided to you regarding your booking and it's price. There is absolutely nothing rude in supervisor telling you that.

Sorry OP but I think you have received what you contracted for. NCL is offering you a reduction and IMO that's more than fair.

When we book there is always the chance that the price will go up or down. As the cruise date becomes closer NCL like other lines will sometimes discount unsold cabins. Not always but sometimes these cabins are not as desirable as the ones booked earlier. Seasoned last minute cruisers know and accept this for a lower price. Most likely you were careful about your cabin location and picked the best location for you. Would you be willing to trade your quiet and convenient cabin for one that was directly under a late night club?

If you feel your contract with NCL is unfair then ask your TA to cancel your cruise and you can take the matter to your lawyer.

Actually, Southwest will give you the lower price. Since they don't charge for changes, if the price goes down we make a "change" from and to the same flight on the same day and they give you a credit toward your next flight you book.

I never expected the entire $347.00 back in OBC or refunded but they could have at least bumped me up a category or 2 and the $80.00 would have been nice.

Yes, my TA has been on top of this and has been talking to NCL but he is the one that told me to call them and tell them that I was not happy and would like to at least be bumped up in the category.

I am sorry if I have upset the NCL crowd but I am not happy at this point and it doesn't mean I need to be flamed because of it.

As far as the supervisor goes she was very short and nasty. She could have been nicer about it and said that they could only talk to my TA and would be more then glad to do that instead of telling me "I am not going to discuss this with you because it doesn't concern you." her exact words! My booking doesn't concern me? Am I missing something?

OP -

Show me another mass market line that will adjust your price downward after final payment.

At least they offered you some OBC. They were under no obligation to offer you anything at all.

NCL isn't a rip-off. You just had unrealistic expectations/hopes and are upset that you didn't get your way.

Sorry to sound totally unsympathetic but I am. What would you have said if the price had gone up? :NCL didn't have to give you a darn thing. Do you think you can call an airline and get a discount?

The cruise line is correct, about going through your agent: Your travel agent was very much aware of the cruise line policies, this isn't just NCLs policy.

I can almost guarantee you all the writing to NCL you want to do with get you nowhere fast. You are completely in the wrong about this one.

I am sorry the supervisor was rude to you, that isn't called for. of course, I don't know how you handled it either.

No I am sorry I didn't know how the system worked because I have never had a price on a cruise go down that far or at least I never knew it did. So I really had no idea how any of this works. I thought that they would at least upgrade you, really hadn't expected any OBC just mainly to be upgraded with that big of a difference. Sorry, I may have been on all these cruises but like I said originally I am an easy going person and just go with the flow! A lot of times we are the ones that book at the last minute when the prices go down. The only one that we book early is our Christmas cruise.

We did this one early because we had FCC to use up, the way it turned out I wish we had waited until now to have booked it. Oh well, we live and learn as one person said here today. I will definetly learn from this experience and go on living my life!

Everyone have a great day,

Gerry

I am pretty sure your agent told you to call cause he knew you wouldn't accept what he was telling you. He knows very well NCL will not talk to you. Again, this isn't just NCL but all cruise lines. Please just be happy you got the $80.00 and think about how you would feel if the price went up and your were charged $80 more!!!!

And what do you get from CCL if you don't book early saver and it is after final payment date? Not even 25%. So how is that different then NCL?

Last July I bought an Apple lap top for my son, he was going off to college. I paid XXX amount for it. In August that very same laptop dropped $200.00. Do you think Apple gave me any money back? Did I except them to give me the difference back? Of course not…………….. Sh*t happens, don't sweat the petty stuff
