Mary&Jim Posted March 19, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 19, 2014 For our next cruise this September, my dh & I were given a substantial amount in onboard credit from the cruise line and our TA. I'm having a challenge on where to use the credit. We do not go to the specialty restaurants and we don't book excursions thru the cruise line. We prefer to "do our own thing." This particular cruise did not have our desired dining time available so we will be using My Time Dining which requires pre-paid gratuities. Can the credit be used in the casino? Any other suggestions? Thanks, MaryW.
Clarea Posted March 19, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 19, 2014 The credit can be used in the casino, however they will charge you 5% to do so. There are drink packages, individual drinks, wine, and of course the shops.
cb at sea Posted March 19, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 19, 2014 (edited) Your credit will go against any charges you have on the ship...you don't really need to designate which charges will be paid with the credit! If you have, say, $300 in OBC, the 1st $300 you charge on the ship for ANYTHING is paid for...at that point, you have ZERO in charges! Understand? The credit can be used for ANYTHING you charge on the ship. If you use the credit to gamble, you will lose between 3-5% of the funds...they charge you for "cash advances", which is what gambling expenses are. So, if you gamble with the OBC, you've already lost! Not a good idea! Edited March 19, 2014 by cb at sea

Clarea Posted March 19, 2014 #9 Share Posted March 19, 2014 Can it be put towards the gratuities? In general, yes. However the OP was required to prepay gratuities.
wassup4565 Posted March 19, 2014 #10 Share Posted March 19, 2014 Since you have the OBC anyway, why don`t you try some things you would never spend your own actual money on? Have a little fun. Try something new. My hubby purchased a facial in the spa for me on a recent cruise as a birthday present. This is something I would never have done, and I thought he had rocks in his head (although I appreciated the gesture). It was a wonderful experience! I loved every minute of it. Sky616 Posted March 19, 2014 #12 Share Posted March 19, 2014 Plenty of things you could use the OBC on. Get a couple of nice 8X10 or 5X7 photos of the two of you taken on formal nights and give them to your family or friends and keep a few for yourselves. We have a 8X10 in each room of our home of the wife and I on our earlier cruises.
