elliekate Posted March 25, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2014 We are going to be on the Reflection next February and are planning to go to Miami the day before the cruise. The hotels seem to be really pricey! Any recommendations or deals? Would it be feasible to stay in Ft. Lauderdale and take a shuttle to the ship? Rare Lady Arwen Posted March 25, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 25, 2014 We like Holiday Inn Port of Miami. Directly across the street from huge marketplace with shops and restaurants and the cruise terminal. Love waking up and looking out the window to see our ship. CVS is a five minute walk from the hotel. It's definately not a five star hotel, but we've always found our room to be spacious and clean. The price is not outrageous considering the location. I have read comments from other posters who do not care for this hotel, but it works for us.

Safetyal Posted March 25, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 25, 2014 If you find a good price that you find acceptable, I would go ahead and book it. That is high season for Miami.

The hotels seem to be really pricey! Any recommendations or deals? Would it be feasible to stay in Ft. Lauderdale and take a shuttle to the ship? We have stayed at the Hilton in downtown Miami. It's a short cab ride from the hotel to the pier. There is a tram not far from the hotel that will take you to a near by mall. You could do some shopping and have dinner there. Enjoy your cruise.:)
CruisingYiayia Posted March 25, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 25, 2014 We were on the Reflection last November and stayed at the Intercontinental…beautiful hotel and great location. We got a very good price on lastminutetravel.com.

Rare ORV Posted March 25, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 25, 2014 I'm staying here this coming November. How far is it from the cruise terminal? A couple of miles, about a $10 cab ride. More time waiting than driving. Probably inconvenient to walk.

Maybe we can find some options for you. Know that Feb is high and if you are around Presidents Day, even worse. To get to and from Ft L can be an expense for sure. Wouldn't do that if you are flying into Miami. If you want to stay downtown so you see Miami a bit, I'd look at one of the discount sites. Not knowing your budget, maybe even stay nearer the airport in the Blue Lagoon area (nicer) or La Quinta EAST is usually lower cost and popular with cruisers. Nothing special, and you won't see anything "Miami" in those airport areas.

Many choose to fly into FLL and stay in Fort Lauderdale because it is cheaper, easier (at least the airport) and more family friendly than either downtown Miami or Miami Beach. www.sunny.org is a good source for FLL area tourist and lodging info; lots of shuttles will take you from the FLL area to POM (about a 40+ minute trip) for fares starting at about $15 per person. If you have a group you may want to rent a car one-way -- National, Alamo and Thrifty offer free shuttles to/from POM from their MIA airport location. If your rent at Alamo at MIA, will they actually give you a ride down to the port (POM) when you are leaving on your cruise? If so, will they drop off everyone in your vehicle, or do you have to first drop off passengers and luggage and then return the car so that they are just dropping off one person? You can all drop the car off at the MIA airport and then ride their shuttle bus to POM, or you can drop others off at POM and ride the bus solo - your choice. :)
elliekate Posted March 26, 2014 Author #16 Share Posted March 26, 2014 Thanks for all of the comments! We are going to be there President's Day weekend so we need to get busy booking rooms...had not thought of that! We have a group of seven couples and we need to watch the budget! The Holiday Inn across from the port has mixed reviews but may work just for the short time we will be there.
frugalKansan Posted March 26, 2014 #17 Share Posted March 26, 2014 I've stayed at the Hyatt and the Intercontinental downtown. They Both have great service. The Intercontinental overlooks the port. You can watch your ship dock in the morning. Check out Hotwire and Priceline. LadySam1968 Posted April 2, 2014 #21 Share Posted April 2, 2014 Just a quick question. We will be selling out of Miami February 28, 2015 will the rates be better than president's weekend and are there any holidays (like mardi gras) that are celebrated that weekend or the second week of March when we return?) thank you. JohninDC Posted April 2, 2014 #22 Share Posted April 2, 2014 Better - but still peak tourist season. One of the locals will need to let you know about local festivals/events.
