blambition Posted March 27, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 27, 2014 Hi, we are booked on the Thanksgiving sailing of Silhouette, and now we are rethinking this and have the same ship held for 12/7/14. Here is our thinking, we are going, just two couples traveling and we are not traveling with children, and not that we don't like them, we just don't want tons of families on the ship with us. Yes you may now officially call us GRUMPY old people, lol. OK call the other 3 people I am traveling with the grumpy old people, I am a very loving and caring person :) We have cruised many times, but it has been years since we have done the Caribbean, and also many since we have been on Celebrity. I would appreciate any comments or thoughts on the change of date, re: weather in the ports, etc. We also are flying out of CO. so we will be leaving a day prior and praying for decent weather on our end, but I don't think two weeks either way, will make much difference there. Thanks for any input you might like to leave! Vicki
Loracpin2 Posted March 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 27, 2014 As a 66 year old grandmother who loves her 8 grandchildren very much, I can tell you with absolute certainty, I woud never cruise over a holiday (or summer) unless I was with them. IMO, the Dec 7 sailing will be much more enjoyable.
Rare 4cats4me Posted March 27, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 27, 2014 (edited) I can state from personal experience that if you sail on Dec 7 there will be a very mature demographic on board for a Caribbean cruise which takes off from Ft Laud or Miami We didn't see one kid. It was not a lively cruise at all. Lots of grumpy people though:eek: lol Oh, the weather should be really mild that time of the year. blambition Posted March 27, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted March 27, 2014 First to 4Cats4Me I love your name, as a cat lover!!! Now I have a real problem, as I don't want to go on a cruise with a bunch of grumpy old people and I also don't want to go with a ton of kids! I guess I will have to throw a coin up in the air and see which one I decide on. Leaning on taking my chances with the grumpy old people, thinking a lot of them will be from FL. On the bright side it could make me look younger!! Plus with the drink package I can tune them out, too bad I don't drink very much. Does anyone know if they have Let It Ride in the casino, and if so what the minimum is?
Rare Lois R Posted March 27, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 27, 2014 One other thing, the Dec cruise may be less $$$ than the holiday cruise too;):):D
Gracie115 Posted March 27, 2014 #6 Share Posted March 27, 2014 One other thing, the Dec cruise may be less $$$ than the holiday cruisetoo;):):D That's absolutely right. Almost all of our Carib. cruises have been in early Dec. and we certainly don't qualify as old and grumpy. Lots of younger people, but very few children. The ships are not as crowded because most staterooms have only 2 people. We cruised our first time over Thanksgiving and knew we would never do it again. It wasn't just the kids, the ship was just crowded and difficult to maneuver.....AND they ran out of turkey ON THANKSGIVING!!! HORRORS!!!:D:D:eek:
akowilm Posted March 27, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 27, 2014 Dec 7. You'll be glad. Also, unless you leave close to port, air travel will be much more difficult and frustrating during Thanksgiving week, and probably more expensive, too. We did the post Thanksgiving week several years ago on the Century and had a ball! Plenty of fun minded adults, not too crowded, easy travel. Let us know what you decide! floridatravelersforlife Posted March 27, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 27, 2014 The OP has to make their choice. We have been in both situations. On the Silly this past Thanksgiving with cruised our grand daughter. It was less chaos than we expected, but definitely heavily 40 and under crowd. On the other hand we took a cruise on the Constellation a few years ago, the week after Thanksgiving where the average age was at least 60. IF you want library quiet the latter is for you. blambition Posted March 27, 2014 Author #9 Share Posted March 27, 2014 Decision has been made, and Dec. 7 it will be, plus we moved up to CC. It only cost another $7.00 I only did it because my girlfriend really needs a mid-ship cabin and starboard due to the smoke issue. I don't care about what comes with that class being Elite, and with the drink package, but wanted to have cabins next to each other in a great location. We could of had the aft cabins, just couldn't make my friend do the extra walking. I think the ships are filling up faster because of the promos and the prices are not as low as I would expect for the first two weeks in Dec. I agree the airports should be less hassle, and hopefully the ship will be easier to get around. I know there is already a larger roll call on this sailing, and it seems to have a nice group sailing this date. Looking forward to going on the ship. We have been sailing Princess the last several years, since we had a bad experience on the final sailing of the Horizon, so really looking for a great Celebrity experience!!! awhfy Posted March 27, 2014 #12 Share Posted March 27, 2014 If you're flying from Denver the Embassy Suites offers "cars sleep free) for up to 21 days". Nice 2hr managers reception in evening (get the drink package started early), nice breakfast in am & free shuttle to/from terminal. We've stayed there several times prior to cruising. It actually works out cheaper than airport parking. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
