Post-Fire Splendor

We're excited about an Eastern Caribbean itinerary on Splendor. But in all my "googling" I was reminded that Splendor had a fire and was stranded at sea. I am very curious to hear from anyone who has been on this ship "post fire" and whether or not you would suggest it. I read one review that said it still had a bad odor in certain areas of the ship. Can that be possible?! We love Carnival despite the string of bad luck they had a couple years ago, but I also want to be informed before I invest vacation money and put my family onboard. Thanks!

Went in Sept and Jan and going again in May. Love the Splendor!

That was 2009-10 we are in 2014 and the ship has been sailing since, geez.

My wife and I were on the splendor in November and had such a great time we are going again on April 26th. We found no odors anywhere from the fire.

Hi Dasguptah :)

The Splendor engine room fire that was confined to the aft generator

room took place long ago back in November 8, 2010.

My wife and I took a 16-day back to back voyage on the Splendor

May/June 2013. A terrific ship with an outstounding crew. No odor

of the contained, confined fire whatsoever from years prior, anywhere

onboard.

Have a wonderful voyage!

:)

Did you bother to take note of the dates on the reviews you read:eek: Surely in the past 4 years there are more current reviews;)

I had friends on the Splendor late last years, and they found no issues from the fire. I have other family members cruising on her in June using the "free" cruise giveaway, and they weren't concerned with the previous problems which have been corrected.

The ship engine system is completely re-built to a new design that will be used on there new ships and some when they go in for an overhaul for the smoke smell it's going to be there for a while.

Have you been on the ship? There was no smoke smell at all when I was - and that was a while ago.

Not completely accurate. The fix for the problems that plague the Splendor and Triumph class ships, and the classes that derive from them, is to encase the power cabling from the forward engine room where it passes through the aft engine room, so that a fire in the aft engine room will not cause a loss of power from the forward engine room. Quite different from saying the engine system is completely rebuilt. You are correct that the old design will not be used on new ships (which must meet the Safe Return to Port design requirements), and that these older ships will be retrofitted as they go for drydocking.

Having said that, there are no issues remaining from the fire.

Ha! Smoke in the casinos... of course! :) That made me laugh.

Thanks everyone for putting that fire out in my mind (ba-dum-CHING!) Now I'm excited to explore a new ship!

PS- The smell I read about was not smoke, but rather the remnants of the "poop cruise". Blech. I just couldn't believe that was true and now -thanks to you- I know it's not.

THANKS!

Besides the fact that the "poop" cruise was the Triumph not the Splendor, there have been very few or none reports of smell there either. And don't believe all you've "googled" about that either.

Oh, there were plenty of stories about that on the Splendor fire cruise too.
