madra2112 Posted April 3, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 3, 2014 I'm just wondering what determines whether lunch is offered in the MDR or not. I've checked previous compasses, and there doesn't seem to be a hard and fast rule that I can see. Is there a formula or is it a day by day decision? mulan1123 Posted April 3, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2014 I know on Oasis, lunch in in the MDR is offered only on sea days. And from what I can tell, most ships offer lunch in the MDR but probably on seas days as well. But someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
PattyG12 Posted April 3, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 3, 2014 All the ships I've been on offer lunch in the MDR only on Sea Days.
Rare NorbertsNiece Posted April 3, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 3, 2014 On every ship I have sailed MDR lunch is only on sea days. Helps spread the load at other venues.
madra2112 Posted April 3, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted April 3, 2014 Sea days only had been my understanding, but I've seen it offered on Adventure on a day we were arriving in port in the early afternoon. That must have been a one off! Thanks all.
Rare silentbob007 Posted April 3, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 3, 2014 Sea days or days with late arrival at port (ie, lunch time or later).
cruisnpat Posted April 3, 2014 #7 Share Posted April 3, 2014 Only on sea days and their salad is the best.
138east Posted April 3, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 3, 2014 I also think the MDR is open when you are in Labadee and the Windjammer is closed.
rncruiser Posted April 3, 2014 #9 Share Posted April 3, 2014 On itineraries that stop at Labadee, the MDR is usually open for lunch that day and the Windjammer is closed because the staff from there is working at the buffets on shore.
Barb Nahoumi Posted April 3, 2014 #10 Share Posted April 3, 2014 I wish that it would be open for embarkation day lunch, as it is with a limited menu on NCL. Guests can be seated and waited on without needing to lug their carry-ons to the buffet.

Lady Hudson Posted April 3, 2014 #12 Share Posted April 3, 2014 If I remember correctly, Explorer had a MDR lunch when we arrived late to Port Canaveral. That was in December.
rwright261 Posted April 3, 2014 #13 Share Posted April 3, 2014 On our Indy cruise 2 years ago the MDR was only open on sea days. I would thoroughly encourage everyone to try lunch in MDR one day... fab salad bar and really lovely meals and desserts... we enjoyed them more than our evening meals :). The servers are not as busy as the evenings so have more time to spend with you chatting etc (if you want them to), so that was really nice. You can be in and out within 30 minutes if you want to too, so great if you have lots packed into your sea days. Enjoy!
caneguy Posted April 3, 2014 #14 Share Posted April 3, 2014 Just got off the Oasis Eastern. It was only on Sea days and also in Port in Nassau as we left port early. The Tutti Salad Bar is the best!! See my review.. Oasis, 3/22-29/14, so so writing.......really pretty girls. I have listed the compass for all days and continuing to write the review. tomahawk246 Posted April 3, 2014 #15 Share Posted April 3, 2014 Off the subject a little, but I love the lunch in the MDR.
lalalisa Posted April 3, 2014 #16 Share Posted April 3, 2014 Funny....this is posted right on the RC website under dining options: Brasserie 30 Join us for lunch on port days in the Main Dining Room. This venue serves world-class cuisine in 30 minutes or less by offering international fare, daily chef specials along with a Tutti Salad station. I remembered reading it, because I thought it was only on sea days!
Rare LMaxwell Posted April 3, 2014 #17 Share Posted April 3, 2014 (edited) I could have sworn I read somewhere the MDR on Majesty is open when at CocoCay. Yes. Here is a Compass from Majesty/CocoCay http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1844573&page=5 Edited April 3, 2014 by LMaxwell
mrpayroll Posted April 3, 2014 #18 Share Posted April 3, 2014 On itineraries that stop at Labadee, the MDR is usually open for lunch that day and the Windjammer is closed because the staff from there is working at the buffets on shore. On Allure in January and when we were at Labadee, the MDR was not open for lunch. Windjammer was open from 11:30 am till 3:30 pm. { hrs taken from Compass } :( MDR was open for b'fast from 7am till 9am. :)
