gamecockinnc Posted April 6, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 6, 2014 We are sailing in the 8 night Indie this coming Saturday. I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer. 1. Are thee self serve laundry facilities or do I have to send laundry out? I know they have special days where you can fill the bag they give you and it cost around $25 I think. I take liquid Woolite and liquid laundry detergent to wash things by hand but with the 2 older boys I may need to do some laundry. 2. I can't remember from the last time we sailed on RCCL if they have lanyards to hold our cards. I know Carnival does this for free if you go to the casino but we have always taken our own lanyards so I wanted to know if RCCL has any options for lanyards? 3. What about taking a surge protector for charging batteries, tablets etc.? 4. Does the Indie have shampoo and body wash dispensers in their showers? Was curious for the boys. I take my own shampoo, conditions and body wash and of course a bar of soap but was curious if the Indie has the dispensers? Thank you for any information you can share. Clarea Posted April 6, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 6, 2014 No self-serve laundry facilities on any Royal ship. We take small surge protector every time. There is a dispenser of combo shampoo/conditioner in the shower.
hairymelon Posted April 6, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2014 No lanyards are provided so either bring your own or buy one on the ship. You will love Indy she is a beautiful ship :)

ARCruisinNana Posted April 6, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 6, 2014 I don't know the ages of your children, but when you register for Adventure Ocean they give the kids a lanyard.
Ourusualbeach Posted April 6, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 6, 2014 Lanyards if available are not free except for kids in the Adventure Ocean program. I would bring them from home.

T Sent from my iPad Hope you and your family enjoy the Indy. We recently did a B2B on the Indy and had a wonderful time. Great service, friendly crew/staff, and well maintained ship. 1. No self laundry. 2. Lanyards with the RCCL logo are not provided for free but are available for purchase. Note: You can go to the casino and they'll give you the "slinky" type lanyard. Perhaps you can win in trivia and ask for a lanyard as your prize. 3. Yes, a surge protector is a great idea. We bring one with us. 4. Yes, the Indy has the body wash/shampoo dispenser. (Don't laugh, but I had to verify this by looking at our photos...lol) Happy Sailing!:)
gamecockinnc Posted April 7, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted April 7, 2014 (edited) Thank you so much. Regarding the lanyards I have ours out to pack but was curious if RCCL can punch a hole in the card so the boys can use the type that hold the card on the lanyard. I like to use the lanyard that has a clear plastic pocket. Also, when are the formal nights on the 8 night Indie? What time should we arrive at the port Saturday? We are flying in Friday afternoon. Lastly, what are the soda package options and how do they work? Do you get a cup, a sticker on our cards etc? Thanks again for all of your help and advice!!! CntPAcruiser Posted April 7, 2014 #11 Share Posted April 7, 2014 Also, depending on the boys' ages, they may be able to use the fitness center and its locker room (I believe the cutoff is 16 years old). If you are all sharing a cabin, the bathroom can get quite busy, so often the guys will use the gym locker rooms to clean up before dinner. There are shampoo and shower gel dispensers in the locker room showers, and the showers are full-size, which can be helpful for guys who are taller (as compared to using the tiny tube shower in your cabin). Luckynana Posted April 8, 2014 #12 Share Posted April 8, 2014 We were on the Indy 8 night in March. What a great ship!!! The formal nights for us were the 2nd night and 6th night. Indy is a beautiful ship, great layout, promenade with shops, a pub, etc. They even have parades on 3 different nights. Great ice show, wonderful staff, I can go on and on. Have a wonderful time..you are going to love it!!!
pepsicruiser Posted April 9, 2014 #13 Share Posted April 9, 2014 As far as the laundry bag is concerned it is rather small. Maybe a few pairs of underwear and socks and a couple of tee shirts will fit for the $25 fee (not positive of $$$). They won't take dress shirts or anything that has to be ironed. On the bright side is the prices won't break the bank for cleaning.
gamecockinnc Posted April 9, 2014 Author #14 Share Posted April 9, 2014 Just make it things easier do you recall where on the ship they will punch a hole in the card for the lanyard. The boys like the lanyards that don't have the plastic pocket there fore needing the hole punched.

The boys like the lanyards that don't have the plastic pocket there fore needing the hole punched. I have not been on Indy but on her sister ships Liberty and Freedom. The guest services people have a hole punch that they will use to punch the kids' cards. As for the laundry, yes, it's a small bag, but I have been able to get underwear for 3 people, plus socks, tshirts and some lightweight shorts into the bag by rolling each item and STUFFING them all in. As long as it will close, they will take it.
Luckynana Posted April 10, 2014 #16 Share Posted April 10, 2014 I know you're leaving tomorrow for the Indy..but if you have a tendency to get cold, pack a sweater.. the ship can be chilly in the evening! I had read this on cc before my cruise, and was happy to have brought my sweater. Have a wonderful time!!!!

No self-serve laundry on any RCI ship. You are correct that there is almost always a special on the send-out laundry. Check your Cruise Compass each day. 2. They used to have lanyards for the kids, but I have been reading that they are no longer giving them out at the Adventure Ocean. They have them for sale in the logo shop, but you may want to play it safe and bring one from home. It also doesn't hurt to ask about getting some at guest services. 3. Technically they are not allowed by RCI, but it seems to be very, very inconsistantly enforced. There has been an increase in stories of people having them confiscated upon boarding lately, but many people still cite success on bringing them aboard. It does seem to be a bigger issue when sailing out of San Juan, so you should be okay (maybe get a cheap one for the trip... don't risk a $30 monster surge protector). 4. From pictures I have seen, Indy has the dispensers. I am pretty sure all of the ships (or at least Radiance and larger/newer) have the shower dispensers.
