Hi everyone

I wanted to say hello as I will be taking over the hosting of the P&O UK forum.

Up till now I have been the UK Ambassador rather than an active host but hopefully you will not notice any difference on the boards!!

About half my cruises have been with P&O and I have sailed on all their ships except Azura - so far!! I love the brand and find it one of the friendliest I have sailed with.

So - that's me!

Hi Sharon,

I expect I will have lots of questions in the future. I have just booked to go on Britannia on 29 August 2015. I will be celebrating my 60th birthday on board, and also our 40th wedding . anniversary a week later. Perhaps we may be lucky and be invited to dine on the Captain's table lol....

Excuse my ignorance in this posting. What is a 'host' and what function do you perform? What is your connection with P & O cruises and with Cruise Critic?

Please do not think I am being difficult but as a not too regular a visitor to this site, I don't understand your role.

Perhaps you would be kind enough to enlighten me and those who may share my lack of understanding.

I look out for and welcome new members and also help to moderate this part of the forum. I have no connection with P&O cruises, other than cruising with them when time and money allows.

Welcome to Cruise Critic by the way!

Shame you're not hosting the Princess forum too, then you could explain why my informing The US, CAN & AUS travellers coming to the UK about Eavesway coaches broke forum rules when there are numerous National Express postings (with no sanction) and we ALL know that Eavesway are FAR superior to National Express for cruise passengers.

I wonder why that was? What is the difference between mentioning Eavesway and National Express? I once got an email to tell me a post had been removed for mentioning another cruising website. Fair enough, I shouldn't have done that, but I cannot see why you can't recommend Eavesway. I hope Sharon comes back with an answer.

I am not sure about that one - will investigate.

I am assuming your post came under this part of the guidelines :-

Cruise Critic has strict guidelines prohibiting blatant advertising, commercial sales and solicitation posts on all of our message boards.

Our Cruise Boards are meant to be a cruiser's exchange of advice and tips where cruisers can talk about their travels -- not a marketplace for advertising and selling services. There are thousands of cruise professionals online and if we didn't insist on a non-solicitation policy the cruise boards would be very quickly overrun with nothing but ads.

Cruise Critic defines advertising as an individual or company's attempt to generate business or other commercial enterprise, either directly or indirectly, by using our Cruise Board. Solicitation includes, but is not limited to, requests to be E-mailed, the posting of phone numbers for your business, constantly mentioning that you are in the travel business, and the referring to or posting of one's own Web site address.

I realise you were trying to be helpful, but I am not sure people from abroad could book that company from airports etc anyway.

Yes they can Sharon, Eavesway pick up from Heathrow, they are bookable on line and offer a much better service than National Express to Southampton.

I was not plugging or pushing Eavesway in any event, merely trying to provide helpful information on the best possible solution to those travelling from abroad I'm no way connected, linked or a shareholder for them but the simple facts are;

Eavesway offer a specialist coach service direct to the Terminal, bags go on at your pick up and appear outside your cabin.

National Express offer a "regular" service, drop off at Southampton coach station, passengers are expected to get a taxi (which are mostly fully booked by hotels and other companies) so have to wait in line for long periods, they have to carry their luggage from the coach terminal to the taxi and then pay the £20 and do the same on the way back.

When merderaters (I'd use the other word but it would be flagged and deleted straight away) see "helpful" posts that mention alternative companies like I did and instantly press the delete key for no other reason than ignorance it strikes me that they are not supporting the forum members and are just blindly following "guidelines" without using their brains or investigating first.

It's sad that visitors to the UK cannot get the best possible advice and help because someone who has no idea about a particular country determines what meets and doesn't meet guidelines. Banality trumps helpfulness in this case.

I agree with Tom on this. The reason I asked what was wrong with his post that was deleted, was that someone from the US on our roll call asked me the best way to get to Southampton from Edinburgh on the day of our cruise so I recommended either Cruise Connect coaches or flybe.com. I wonder if that will be removed?
