rkacruiser Posted April 15, 2014 #103 Share Posted April 15, 2014 Maybe we'll hear her foghorn. And, it is a treat! When I was aboard her, for a brief period of time one night, the foghorn had to be used. I got out of bed, went out onto the veranda, and sat there enjoying the sound. (Wrapped up in my bathrobe and blanket, of course!)

rkacruiser Posted April 15, 2014 #105 Share Posted April 15, 2014 When I sailed from Port Everglades on the Amsterdam, a strong thunderstorm delayed our departure for 3 hours. The main reason, though, was it caused the loading of fuel and supplies to be interrupted.

When we got that kind of rain or a white out -- everyone just pulled off the road or stopped as best as possible.

Boytjie Posted April 15, 2014 #120 Share Posted April 15, 2014 A few years ago it started raining like this just as our muster drill was coming to an end; you could see the rain approach by the water surface in the harbor.

rkacruiser Posted April 15, 2014 #125 Share Posted April 15, 2014 My brother and sister-in-law were married when a severe thunderstorm rolled through the area. The Minister handled it beautifully: "Well, the Lord is giving Jim and Rosemary a 21 gun salute." Maybe this is a "21 gun salute" for the guests for the good ship Westerdam.
