Things to do on sea days....

You're on vacation. Relax and enjoy. The postings should give you some suggestions as to how to spend your day at sea. I love sea days. Forget the time. Just go with the flow. Eat when you want. I love to sit on deck with a good book, a cold drink, and my spouse. Sometimes I read. Sometimes I nap. Sometimes I just look at the water. I often end up talking to people sitting next to me. On some cruises, I have made friendships that have lasted for years. Just enjoy being on the ship.

I've done, and enjoyed, most of the previous suggestions but I think the real joy of sea days is to relax. Many ways to do that, but I try not to get too busy on sea days. Relaxing is part of my vacation goal. I enjoy touring the world but if I stay too busy then I come home exhausted and then have to go back to work not feeling rested.

Don't worry that you won't find enough to do on the ship - they provide many activities if you need to do something.

I know this has probably been discussed many times but I thought a new thread for all the new cruisers would be helpful. I have a sister who will be taking her first cruise next year and it includes a stretch of 4 sea days....what do you do on sea days? :)

Nothing.

Try to get out of bed.

Watch the scenery from your balcony/suite.

Go to the pool.

Spa treatment.

I never sleep in, so usually I get up early and to the gym - penance for previous gastronomic indulgences. The ideal sea day is DW, me, deck chairs in relatively quiet locations, good books, cold beer (for me, DW doesn't really drink) and falling into a state of total serenity. I will attend lectures, art auctions (yet to buy anything but they're fun to watch and there are usually free drinks) and trivia contests.

Think about the romance of the sea and what a couples can do together!!!!!!

This is after all a family oriented discussion board therefore I cannot go into any detail......

:D:D:D

ummmm where do you think all those families came from? [emoji8]

The Curse of Cruising

I wake up in the morning to a lovely cup of tea

With my hubby standing next to me smiling down on me

“Have a biscuit with it. Put shoes upon your feet.

Let’s hurry down to breakfast,

It must be time to eat”

There’s shuffleboard and other games and sitting in the sun

Talks and quizzes, singing too and other lots of fun.

I chat to people I don’t know – so many still to meet

But gosh! Where has the morning gone?

It must be time to eat.

After lunch we sit around doing not a lot

Then hubby says “A cup of tea? Let’s look at what they’ve got.

Those sandwiches and cakes look nice. Just give yourself a treat.

It’s two whole hours since we had lunch.

It must be time to eat.”

Then I feel all guilty so I rush off to the gym

and leap and prance and jump and dance and stretch out every limb.

Then shower and change and preen and pat and check that all is neat

A quick drink in the bar and then

It must be time to eat.

Later there are shows and jokes and songs for her and him

Then I stagger to my cabin ‘cos I’m full up to the brim.

But what’s that on my pillow so tempting and so sweet?

Ooooh! A little square of chocolate!

It must be time to eat.

I know what’s going to happen when I’m home and on the scales

And the arrow whizzes upwards and I’m thinking of beached whales

And my clothes no longer fit me and the edges will not meet

It;s just the curse of cruising

It must be time to eat.

Appreciate the sharing of so many super great ideas on this thread. Super ideas. Plus, on sea days, you need this "rest-up" time when are on cruises that have lots of busy, great port stops, as we enjoyed in the Med in 2011 and down under in early 2014.

Below are a few of my personal favorites from our two Solstice cruising experiences. Liked some of the tours, including for the Bridge, Galley, etc. Am submitting "photo evidence" for why and how these can be both fun and of interest. More details and ideas for the live/blog connected below.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Back from doing a 14-day Celebrity Solstice, Jan. 20-Feb. 3, 2014, Sydney to Auckland adventure on this ship and getting a big sampling for the wonders of "down under” before and after this cruise. Go to:

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1974139

for much more information and lots of wonderful pictures on these amazing sights in this great part of the world. Now at 69,127 views for this fun posting.

From our Bridge Tour, here is an inside view from this glassed over-hang with the ship officer explaining what all of the many buttons, dials and knobs do to control the ship's speed, direction, etc. Plus, you can see many other screens that update all of the key navigating information, etc. Interesting area of the ship!:

Here is one example for excellent naturalist Milos doing his speaker series presentations, including his use of great humor with nice substance on his details for factors on the world’s creatures, how the earth was formed and evolved, etc. This was during our Australia to New Zealand cruise on the Solstice. Milos drew big crowds and they had to move his presentations to the main theater.:

Here was the Executive Chef doing a cooking program in the main lobby. Was fairly crowded on this first of the two sea days crossing from Tasmania to NZ.:

This is the Sunset Bar area that adjoined part of the lawn areas on the top, back part of the Solstice.:

We did a galley tour and here is one of the staff members displaying his fine art in carving.:

Super loved it when there were times at the pool in the afternoons on the Solstice in June 2011 when the “party band” was going at it with great tunes. This added to the fun and excitement around the pool area of our ship. Just like done by some famous California pop groups, we were hearing “fun, fun, fun” underneath the sun!!:

There is an old saying which came from the old days of the wooden ships of war. How that expression came into being is interesting.

Son of a gun, everyone have a great day and enjoy that next cruise.

:):D:)

We love, love, love sea days! Our daily lives get so busy that it's refreshing not to have anywhere special you have to be or anything pressing you have to do. We sleep longer on sea days, read a lot, go to the gym (if we feel like it), swim or lounge by the pool, attend whatever activities strike our fancy, and eat whatever we want (with a few cocktails thrown in for good measure!). Then, when the next port day comes around, we have renewed energy and enthusiasm! The best thing about sea days us it's the polar opposite from our real lives!
