Going on the Sunshine to propose marriage in St. Thomas

I have been to St. Thomas before (without my girlfriend) and we had a guide who took us to this touristy souvenir shop I think called Banana Daiquiri's which is on top of the mountain. I remember it had a nice veranda that overlooked the whole island and in particular, Megan's Bay. It's a beautiful view! I though maybe that would be a good place to propose to her. Anyone got any other idea's? Maybe a better place on St. Thomas?

BTW, our cruise is taking us also to Grand Turk (no), Nassau (no) and San Juan (?)

I think you should grab a taxi and go to Secret Harbor. There are very few tourist there and it's fabulous. There is a bar/restaurant right on the beach. I can't think of a more beautiful place to propose. You can Google Secret Harbor to see photos. The water is a marine sanctuary, so there is wonderful snorkeling there. You can just walk into the water from the beach and enjoy. I loved it so much when I cruised there in 2002, I flew back, rented a condo and stayed for 2 weeks. It's a lovely place.:D

Great idea! I'll check it out. Thanks!

How about the catamaran to St John? It goes to Honeymoon Beach Beautiful beach too! I proposed on our balcony on The Dream in 2011.

Have to check that out too! :)

I proposed to my wife in San Juan at the beautiful El San Juan Resort and Casino. We were there on a land vacation though. I had our family secretly waiting at a designated spot where I dropped on one knee and proposed. :)

Do have a backup plan just in case your itinerary is altered. While our proposal went without a hitch, our honeymoon didn't. Our flight was late and when we arrived at the resort (at 1am) they didn't have our reserved, high floor oceanview balcony available. So they gave us a second floor, street view room down a hallway that had flooded earlier in the day and still had wet and musty carpets. Nothing says romance and wedding night like the smell of the hotel's dumpster 20 feet below!

The next day, our cruise itinerary was altered due to political unrest, so we ended docked at only one port of call for three days. The icing on the cake was sharing our honeymoon with a half ship charter of a very loud and obnoxious wrestling federation. We saw more spandex in one week than I've seen my entire life!

Oh, and on the last night, the seas got VERY rough. In 25+ cruises, I've never felt so seasick. We ended throwing pillows and blankets out on the balcony floor (thank goodness for the extra Jr. Suite balcony space) and sleeping there, as the sea air and mist proved to be the only seasickness remedy that worked. The sea mist turned into sea splash at some point in time during the night (even though we were on deck 9) since we woke up at 5am, soaked in salt water. :o

But we survived, and 10 years later we still laugh at the hiccups we encountered. :)

Sounds awful that you 2 had to go through that! I am sure it brings alot of laughs now though. I do not have a backup plan YET for the proposal but I'll have to work on one. Glad to hear you 2 are still going strong!

St. Thomas is a beautiful island. We stopped at several scenic overlooks on our tour which was above Megan's Bay, so any of those would work, but it seems like you have one picked out, so I would stick with that one, or research the others mentioned before deciding. Congrats on the proposal, and enjoy your cruise!!:)

The place I think you are talking about is now called Mountain Top. The building burned down a few years ago, and it was rebuilt. Honeymoon Bay is a good choice, went snorkling there. The only people on the beach the day we were there were the snorklers.

I hope the veranda is still there!

I did it at home. Wouldn't consider any other option. We know a couple who were in Rome and he proposed at the Trevi Fountain. I thought what a romantic guy. My wife said a romantic setting could unduly influence proceedings and was irrelevant to the subject at hand. Turns out she was right once again.

I am 99.9% sure she will say yes in any setting but I just wanted it to be special for her. I could not care less where it is as long as she says yes. That's why I was asking you all for any idea's that might be better.

First, congratulations !!!

My son just proposed to his fiancé recently. He did it at sail away on their balcony because he wanted her to have a special cruise and wanted her to be very excited through the whole cruise. She has two children, and he asked them to be there on the balcony with him when he proposed, and they cried. She had no idea that he was going to propose!!

Going to a special spot is also is a good idea. will anyone be there to video it or take pics so you have that moment to look at in the future?

Imo, it depends on whether you want privacy or if you want others to witness the proposal. Mountain Top is a bit too public for my taste.

If you want privacy, take a private kayak tour to a beautiful, remote area. The guide can secretly take photos for you.

VI Ecotours can arrange it for you.

It is a special spot to me. I really liked it when I was there. Yes, her 2 teenage boys will be with us and hoping one of them will film and the other take pictures.

Congratulations.

Keith

Thank you!

We will have her 2 boys with us so I don't care if it's private. Just want a beautiful spot that she will always remember.

You are referring to Mountaintop where you had the banana daiquiris. The original burned down 5 or so years ago and the new version is a bit more commercial and lacks the character of the old place in our opinion. But the view of Magens Bay is excellent. A more spectacular view of Magens can be had at Drake's Seat, I haven't read all of these posts so don't know if this will just be you two and a minister or a group. There is parking at Drake's but not a lot of room for a crowd.

We renewed our vows at the gazebo at Paradise Point with the magnificient view overlooking the harbor. The minister brought the champagne and took care of everything and cordoned off the gazebo for the ceremony. It's a private spot a short walk up hill from the bar/restaurant. We had 3 other couples with us and everyone enjoyed the band at the bar after. The girls also enjoyed the surfboard shots. We went to Sapphire Beach before and surprised my wife with the ceremony as she thought we were just going to PP for a Bailey's Bushwacker.

We chose this spot rather than a beach to have cover in the event of a quick shower, if you want a beach setting we highly recommend Sapphire Beach and Pretty Klip Point over Secret Harbor and the other beaches. Many people are married here because this offers amazing views and is a private setting, you can find YouTube videos of course. The public restrooms are currently closed, but if you're thinking of going somewhere after to celebrate that's not a problem.

Congrats!

Sounds a bit too analytical and very dry!

Of course the setting "influences" the moment - that's the point, and that's why we go out of our way to please our gals. If you ever renew your vows try surprising her that way, or just do something else spontaneous without getting her permission - might be fun!
