Smoking on your balcony is out! Gratuities are going up.

Recommended Posts

There are smoking areas on the ship...non smokers can choose to walk through them stay in them or avoid them altogether. I'm not asking for smoking to be banned but carnival madethe right decision banning it from balconies.

I am a non smoker but I also have to agree with those wanting looser restrictions on e cigs. Not sure why the hate on those as myself and clothes don't walk away smelling like a forest fire.

Let's be honest here, 6 sailings were disrupted which played a major part. Plus, bookings are up for RCI and they raised their outlook for the year. Story.

They certainly voted on Royal Carribean's policy...Profits dropped 2/3

Carnival needs to throw the smokers a bone, like a designated smoker's lounge. Maybe it could have a sports bar and a mini casino. But I can already hear the non smokers complaining that they can't enjoy that venue because of all of the smokers. SMDH.

AHOY SHIPMATES,

I have read all three threads on the new BANS, a total of over 40 pages of posts, some very interesting comments.

NOW ....I wonder how long it will be before someone is offended or bumped into by a drunk and starts crusading to bring back PROHIBITION on Cruise Ships.

Also there was a post regarding offensive odors , and wants to ban "old lady perfume". That's DUMB, why not just ban OLD LADIES ? LOL

gary

Hey!! I resemble that remark!! LOL

Maybe some posters will recall how airports built plexipens for smokers when airports first began to limit smoking in the terminals?

Oldsters like me may also remember how an airplane itself had brown sticky stuff (nicotine and smoke residue) all over the inside fuselage and seats? Arm rests had ashtrays then too.

I think its time for people to agree to disagree and move on!! The policy is in place and Carnival is not going to reverse their decision

Like!

Former smoker (2 years now) and current e-cig user. Always book a balcony.

I am not harming others any more than the smoke from the smokestack is. If I am harming anyone, it is myself. I have as much right to smoke as drinkers have to drink. I think the majority of smokers on cruises have been considerate of their neighbors, I know I am.

Actually, the smoke from the stack was so harmful that any ship burning old sulfur diesel was banned from entering any American ports. Cruiselines were given a choice to change to cleaner diesel or not stop in the good ole USA.

It is awesome how gleeful people are when it comes to taking something away from someone. :D

Problem with that is one day it just might be you ;)

It's pretty obvious that trying to reason with you is futile. The long and short of it is what's done is done. You don't have to like it, but you do have to accept it.

So stop your pouting, suck it up, take your business elsewhere, and get on with your life. If you spent half as much time and energy on trying to be a happy person as you do blaming others, you might learn that everyday above ground is a good day....no matter if you can smoke on your balcony or not.

I'm an ex-smoker (9 years) and have never smelled smoke on my balcony, maybe I'm just lucky but I highly doubt it, I do not for a minute believe that smoking on a balcony (AKA outside) on a moving ship can cause an adjacent balcony to fill up with smoke and cause those people on that balcony breathing problems or any other kind of problem. I would rather have someone smoking on a balcony beside me then 200+ of them smoking on the deck across from me all at once because they have nowhere else to smoke, or in the casino where I really will be breathing second-hand smoke from the now 200+ smokers who will go in there just to smoke because they can't on their balcony. The rest of you nonsmokers who had to whine and complain and carry on for years about smoking on the balconies - don't open your mouth to complain about the smoke on the outdoor decks or in the casino as you were the ones who caused that new problem.

As for Carnival going completely smoke free - I highly doubt it anytime soon since they tried one ship and that sunk rather quickly due to loss of profit.

Not from me you wouldn't. I, for one, would have no problem at all if Carnival designated a lounge for smokers....I just wouldn't go there. I've been on plenty of ships that have smoking lounges and cigar bars; never had a problem with it.

If this is true, then it looks like Carnival feels their crew members "deserve a raise" again. Instead of paying their employees more, they'll happily pass it on to the consumers whenever they "feel" that they "deserve a raise." Or at least, that is the phrase they used in 2011.

Since it is clear that Carnival does not value my business, I will not assist them with payroll. I will tip those who provide me with excellent service directly.

Unfortunately, I have a cruise booked for November. I was so looking forward to peaceful relaxation on my extended aft balcony, away from the drunks and the noise :( Since I am no longer a valued customer because I smoke, I downgraded to an inside as close to the "designated" smoking area on the Lido deck as possible. I would have cancelled but my travel companion still wants to go. I have no interest in this cruise any longer.

I know that the lion's share of profit from a cruise is not in the cabin fares but in the up-sells. I will not drink on the ship, I will not gamble and I will not shop on board. I will spend my money after the cruise in New Orleans and Biloxi where a smoker's money is still welcome.

Missouri has THIRTEEN casinos, compared to FOUR in Maryland. It follows that Missouri revenue should be higher.

Hold on, Einstein. I only threw out that figure as a baseless datapoint to counter a previous baseless datapoint. But, since you decided it is just that simple, how do you explain those figures in light of the fact that:

(from 2013 US Census estimates)

Missouri has 6,044,171 residents, compared to 5,928,814 in Maryland.

. . .unless you know of casinos that generate revenue absent people?

Also, Missouri is a much larger state, at 69,706.99 square miles, compared to 12,405.93 sq. mi. for Maryland. Wait, they only have 325% as many casinos for an area that is 562% as large???

:eek:What could all these numbers mean????

Mock if you will, but I was walking the streets of Barcelona and saw what I saw. Were you?

Exactly! In the streets. No longer is restaurants and public indoor spaces. Which is what the poster was stating that you were trying to negate.

Are you stupid?

I asked you a simple question, in a civilized manner, and that's your response? I have always respected your opinion, and have found great value in many of your posts. While I've not always agreed with you, I've never thought of you in a negative way.

Until now.

As one of those "rabid "ex-smokers - I surprisingly am really not in favor of the ban :eek:

Maybe DH and I have been lucky, but we have never been bothered by smoke from our balcony neighbors .

On the other hand, I am sure many have legitimate complaints because their balcony use has been curtailed because of chain-smoking neighbors. I think the smokers who consult with their neighbors and try to limit their smoking are in the minority.

I REALLY would rather have a smoke -free casino if I had to choose :o:o

I am really sorry all of you smokers are canceling your cruises - IMO there is SO much more to a balcony than a place to smoke !!

The world is becoming more hostile to smokers as we speak - I am pretty sure I heard somewhere they were in the process of banning smoking on the BEACH at Ocean City, MD

I hope this is true too, I have kinda avoided balconies for fear of the smoking, i have asthma and already limit my time in the casino, but have splurged on an aft balcony.

As for the tipping, i always tip extra so not a big deal.

Well, perhaps you should consider giving up cruising now, because the powers that be have already said that smoking will be allowed in the Casino, and the Nightclub(s). (Carnival wouldn't dare ban smoking in those revenue generating areas).

Carnival cruisers are NOT the same clientele that cruise Celebrity and many would not sail RCI either. Carnival is THE bottom feeder. More smokers in their demographic for sure!

Where on God's green earth do people like you get your information. Because Carnival offers lower rates by no means make anyone who sails them "bottom feeders". Only someone with limited intelligence and holier than thou attitude would make such a statement. Maybe a look at your "own back yard" would save you any more embarrassing statements.
