Save 10% on Carnival Gift e-Cards through Verizon program

I just signed up for this yesterday...quick question, and forgive my ignorance on the issue, but what is the difference between Cruise Dollars and eGift Cards?

I still owe a bit over 1500 on my upcoming cruise this June, so I was going to buy 3 $500 amounts to save myself about $150.

Cruise dollars have to be sent in to be use and I believe that are mailed to you. The e cards are emailed almost instantly and you can enter them for payment immediately.

Ok I've noticed some folks bought their e gift cards and Carnival sent them emails that they hadn't been used yet? Do they rush you to apply them?

If I purchase one can I save it until after I've paid off my cruise and use it toward OBC? I thought about buying two of the 500$ ones...that would pay my cruise off ( I want to do this around Jan.10th) and use the rest as OBC.... which once applied I can use for anything ( casino, etc??? right??) Thanks guys! Making sure I am understanding what I read...

The egift cards have no expiration date so there is no pressure to use them. Keep your gift card numbers safe, if someone else gets a hold of the number and uses them you are sorry out of luck!

  • 2 weeks later...

I would probably purchase sooner than later. They may be around for awhile or they may disappear in the near future. They have been "sold out" several times over the past few months but they do reappear.

I just purchased some to be able and save 10% on the first $500 we spend on board for our December cruise.

We bought a $500 certificate and used it to book a future cruise while on the Magic last week. The future cruise consultant said we could only use a credit card and not an e gift card. After explaining to him how to work his own reservation program, he was able to apply it for our deposit.

I purchased one $500 and one $50 eCard from Verizon Rewards tonight. I got the e-mail link to the eCards within a couple of minutes. I then logged into my Carnival account and pulled up our cruise details. By clicking the 'make a payment' button, I was able to input the account number of the eCard into the field for Gift Cards (but only one at a time). Hit enter and boom. . .$500 off final payment balance. Easy!

I then processed a second payment for the $94.28 balance as a combo of the $50 eCard and $44.28 on a Visa cc. When I hit enter the second time the screen receipt read that I had paid $50 with an eCard and $50 with a Visa cc! All I see on the main cruise details page is the 'balance paid in full'

I sent my PVP an e-mail to find out what has happened to the difference. Will let everyone know when I do. In the meantime, anyone else in that situation might want to process each payment separately even though the system lets you combine payment types.

Can anyone purchase these gift cards?

You need to have Verizon as your cell phone provider and then you redeem points accrued in their program to earn the 10% off and be able to purchase the cards. I already bought 550 worth of the ecards and I'll get another 850 to take care of our sail n sign. Easy way to save 140.00.

I am so.upset!! The same thing happened to me, but I was charged $500 on my debit card!! I owed $533, put $500 on a gift card and the balance on my debit (which showed as $33 on credit card 1). As soon as I hit submit, I get a confirmation for $500 on each!

I called Carnival right away and I was supposed to be refunded $466. I asked when I would see this refund and was told they process at 4 pm and I should see it then. Wellllll....I haven't. The csr also said that, in the future, I should apply my payments separately. Gee, thanks.

If I buy say $500 in eGiftcards and apply it to my S&S card (trip paid in full already) and I don't use all $500 during my cruise, what happens to that balance?

It will be refunded in the form of another gift card.

I'm planning to empty out the amount in the casino the last night, When you return the money back to the cage, they will give you a check for cash so you can cash out your gift card. I confirmed this with the CSRs on the phone.

Yeah you pay the 3% at the casino, but since you saved 10% on the front side, you still 'make' money.

Curious how you pay 3% at the casino. I've cashed out a few times and they gave me cash and as far as I know didn't deduct any percentage.

They only charge you 3% if you are using your S&S at a table. There is no fee if you download money through a slot machine.

I rarely play table games so that's why I didn't know. Thanks!

This program is AWESOME! I just bought 6 $500.00 E Gift cards for $2700 instead of $3000 and paid off my cruise! Where else can you get this deal? I will also buy another $500 Gift card for $450 to use as onboard credit. So glad I found this!

So, I got off Splendor on Sunday with a credit balance on my S&S thanks to various OBC and the application of a $500 gift card. I just checked the card balance and it's showing $0.

Anyone have any experience on how long of a time lag there is before it's credited back to the card?

My 8 nights weren't showing on my cruise history until this morning, so I thought maybe it would be back on the card now but it isn't there, yet.

Still showing a $0 balance this morning.

Guest services said the balance would show up on the card. Someone in another thread said they'd received a new card in the mail (but this was an e-card, not a "real" card).

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

So are you saying that only the eGift cards were used for your entire S&S card or OBC and no other forms of payment? If so, maybe it takes some time to get back on the eGift card like it does when folks use cash (if they didn't cash out at the casino) and they receive a check from Carnival weeks after the cruise.

We just got off of the Splendor. I had purchased 3 $100 and a $50 Verizon e gift cards. We had other OBC from Stockholders credit and group booking credit. We only put $200 of the Verizon cards on our account when we boarded. On the last day we checked to our S&S account to see if we needed to put more verizon certificates on it. This way we didn't need to worry about getting a refund if we did not spend it all. Wg had a little credit left so we purchased another picture and then went to GS to pay the 38 cents we owed in cash. Now we have $150 left to use on our cruise in January.

Hmmm. I wonder where my response went! :o

I also had various OBC (SH, group booking, group amenities, port fees reduced).

I put my $500 card (left the smaller ones at home).

Yes, I had a credit card tied to the account, as always. Checked that this morning and no charges (there shouldn't be; everything was covered by OBC).

I'll give it a couple more days. If nothing happens, I'll call my PVP and see if he can check on it.
