London-Calling Posted August 17, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 17, 2014 A cruise blog has revealed that Quantum will NOT have a Royal Promenade as such. I was not expecting a full-blow RP, but the class does not appear to have anything which could be called a RP as we know it.
OfTheSeasCruiser Posted August 17, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 17, 2014 I can't believe there is so much conflicting info about the Quantum. I just saw a link on another thread that was a Q&A about Quantum that said it would have a RP.. Royal needs to get their act together and completely reveal Quantum at this point in time. I just saw a link on another thread that was a Q&A about Quantum that said it would have a RP.. Royal needs to get their act together and completely reveal Quantum at this point in time. The thing is RCL can call whatever it is whatever they want, but even a cursory look at the deck plans would answer the question. It is more of a Royal Meander, since what appears to be the walkway weaves its way around the shops and dining places. If you're standing at one end, you probably won't be able to see the other end, and if you're standing in the middle you probably won't be able to see either end. ;) Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
Rare eroller Posted August 17, 2014 #4 Share Posted August 17, 2014 I believe on the Quantum Class there will still be an interior promenade, but a scaled back version that might be called Royal Esplanade. We will find out soon enough.

Rare eroller Posted August 17, 2014 #7 Share Posted August 17, 2014 (edited) Having studied the high resolution cut-away view of QUANTUM alongside a deck plan, I absolutely feel there will still be some type of Royal Promenade, or "Royal Esplanade" onboard QUANTUM. What is the Royal Promenade after all? It's an interior thoroughfare where you can walk part of the length of the ship, generally only on one level even though the hight may be multiple levels, that contains restaurants (Promenade Cafe, Sorrentos, Ice Cream, Starbucks), bars (Boleros, Champagne Bar, Schooner Bar, etc.), and shops. The same will exist on QUANTUM yet it will be different. One thing that appears to be the same are the little tiles that are used to line the promenade. On the cut-away view, these appear to be very similar to what has been used on the Voyager, Freedom, and Oasis Class ships. That should help give the promenade the same feel and style, even though again I think it will be different. So how will it differ? For one I think the walkways will be on two levels instead of one. There will be some open atrium type spaces that connect the two levels, but otherwise the walkways on each level will be self-contained, only one level in height, and obviously not have cabins looking down on them. Second the walkways will not be straight but curve around the various venues. As was stated earlier in this thread you won't be able to look down from one end to the other. Lastly many of the venues we know will change but some will stay the same. On the Royal Esplanade we will still see favorites like Sorrentos for pizza and the Cafe Promenade for sandwiches. There will still be a pub but it will be unique, Michael's Genuine. There will still be plenty of shops like before and live music venues as well. Instead of Boleros and On-Air Club we will have The Music Hall. I think there will be other bar and club choices as well that haven't been revealed yet. Perhaps even a signature speciality bar like the Rising Tide but something completely different of course. Maybe even a Schooner Bar on the upper port side of the main atrium but that remains to be seen. The one other difference is the addition of higher end specialty restaurants on the upper level of the Promenade. Since QUANTUM will not have a Central Park, which is where many speciality restaurants are located on the Oasis Class, this is where many will be located on QUANTUM. All in all I think the Royal Esplanade on QUANTUM will serve the same purpose as the Royal Promenade on all the other ships. The idea is essentially the same but the execution is different. Sometimes different can be good and even better! We shall see. I think Royal still has some tricks up its sleeve as well regarding this area, so stay tuned! UCF_Knight Posted August 17, 2014 #8 Share Posted August 17, 2014 Personally, I think I like the looks of the winding streets of venues on Quantum class as opposed to the single large rectangular box look of Voyager/Freedom class.
Rare eroller Posted August 17, 2014 #9 Share Posted August 17, 2014 (edited) Something to really keep in mind when looking at the cut-away view of the ship is that it's totally not to scale. Whomever Royal Caribbean commissioned to design this cut-away view was obviously told the concentrate heavily on showing the various dining venues, even if they were on the wrong deck or wrong side of the ship. I've compared the cut-away view to the renderings of the various restaurants to help figure out what each room was on the cut-away view. Here is some of what I discovered … Starting in the forward section of the cut-away view 1. Music Hall - Decks 4 & 5 Starboard Side 2. Coastal Kitchen - Deck 14 Starboard Side 3. Wonderland - Deck 5 Starboard Side 4. The Grande - Deck 3 Port Side 5. American Icon Grill - Deck 4 Starboard Side Just below American Icon Grill on the cut-away view 6. Silk - Deck 4 Port Side 7. Chic - Deck 3 Starboard Side So as you can see the cut-away view is very restaurant-centric, and venues are shown which are not only on other the other side of the ship, but on a completely different deck like Coastal Kitchen for instance which is all the way up on Deck 14. On another note, I found this pic of the Seaplex Dog House which I haven't seen before. Edited August 17, 2014 by eroller

Tall-Cruiser Posted August 17, 2014 #14 Share Posted August 17, 2014 From what has been mentioned here on CC (and the thread Quantum Keek Blocks are in the House), some of the people who have cruised on the Celebrity Solstice Class ship have noted that the promenade and shop line up with the two levels on Quantum looks very similar to the Solstice Class. Rare eroller Posted August 17, 2014 #17 Share Posted August 17, 2014 From what has been mentioned here on CC (and the thread Quantum Keek Blocks are in the House), some of the people who have cruised on the Celebrity Solstice Class ship have noted that the promenade and shop line up with the two levels on Quantum looks very similar to the Solstice Class. I've sailed on the Solstice Class and while I do feel that QUANTUM is based off a similar platform, I think QUANTUM's interior will have a completely different look and feel. So much so I don't think anyone will ever see the connection between the two classes. Sort of like the Radiance and M-Class. They are also built from similar platforms but it's pretty much impossible to tell that when you cruise on both classes. One area that may look very similar on QUANTUM to the Solstice Class is the indoor pool. The glass roof structure is very similar, and TUI's MEIN SCHIFF 3 also shares this design feature. It just so happens that Royal Caribbean was responsible for the design of MEIN SCHIFF 3. I don't think the Royal Esplanade or whatever it will be called will resemble the short walkway on the Solstice Class where the shops are located. I've attached a picture I took for reference. The shops are on one side and the casino is on the other. This small section is two level which then opens to a small atrium forward which is where the Music Hall on QUANTUM is located. We will have to wait for the final results of QUANTUM, but based on the deck plans and cut-away view I think what we will see on QUANTUM will look and feel substantially different. I agree, one of the key things to notice is that the picture you posted is wide enough for people to easily pass through but not much more. The cut away for Quantum shows lounge furniture setup through the middle of the Promenade area. That does not seem possible at the width of the Solstice's. Hopefully the final product will be a nice surprise that most will like. From the deck plans published thus far it does appear that there will be locations of the inside promenade on decks 4 and 5 that could provide some great sea views despite the location of some of the lifeboats. And the space does seem wider compared to the Solstice class as noted by Derek. Furthermore, my take is there will be lessons learned on Quantum and Anthem that will result in a slightly different Quantum 3. We already saw the changes made to Anthem with more GS and Family JS. There could be more that have not been disclosed yet, who knows given how secretive RCI is these days. The feedback from people will matter and what is new in the Cruise market. London-Calling Posted August 20, 2014 Author #24 Share Posted August 20, 2014 (edited) We could get into quite a complex debate about what is a “Royal Prom” and what is not. Quantum’s (whatever it is called) will certainly be different to those on-board the Voyager, Freedom and Oasis class ships. Quantum’s may not have the scale (length, width and height) I associate with their other “Royal Proms”. It also does not appear to be constructed in a straight line. It does not have cabins overlooking it. Many mega-ships have a corridor passing through the centre, with retail, bars and dining either side. NCL’s Epic and Breakaway ships do, for example. However I would not call them “Royal Proms”. Whatever Quantum's is called I don’t think it is really a “Royal Prom” as such. Others will disagree.;) Edited August 20, 2014 by London-Calling

If you will be looking for a promenade similar to Voyager/ Oasis class you will be disappointed. I sailed on Celebrity's Equinox and the look of their ships are quite similar to Quantum. Quantum will have a totally different vibe than what Royal's customers have experienced. Some will love it, some not.
