Hi Graham

Its starting to look good , hopefully by the 27th Jan when we board Solstice it may be in operation .... as our group are flying in from Melbourne we expect to arrive at the OPT about 11:30am so I hope we get the chance to say hello :p

And I note the red carpet and SMALL bottles of bubbles now you know we ordered magnums

Its nice to think that perhaps we might be among the first to use the new facilities .. keep up the good work ...

Regards

John

Unfortunately for you MY budgetary restrictions may prevent the ongoing practice of complimentary bubbly for cruise critic members, however you will be provided with the red carpet if that is what you wish.

I could get you a "magnum"but as we have no refrigeration at the OPT it may melt before your arrival:D:D

Those owner's and penthouse suites that you can upgrade us to have fridges though. Should be okay to leave it in there. :p

What a great idea..... too bad we ( the check in agents) do not get access to the ship and I could not trust anybody else to do it for me.......... Plus we have no authority to do upgrades.........but nice try:D

Sorry to hear about your budgetary restrictions so therefore we wont put you under any pressure to present us with the red carpet and bubbly but if you could just be there to open the door of the limo and escort us threw that will do

What we would like gbenjo is to give you a bottle of red or white or what ever you drink as a small thank you for all your helpful information not sure if you are allowed but anyway . We are on the Radiance on the 4th jan hope to see you then

Thank you, that is very kind of you but totally unnecessary, I am just lucky that my fun, part time retirement job gives me an insight into the other side of cruising and enables me to pass on helpful info to fellow cruisers who otherwise would not neccessarily have access to .

The limo bit could be a bit of a problem as I am normally upstairs in the terminal doing check in and not able to get away but I can organise the red carpet square if it makes you feel "special":D:D:D ........See you on the 4th

Graham, We are now enjoying Sydney; will look for you this weekend when we check into the Solstice. No red carpet required, but a cool towel would help since we just came in from the snow and this weather feels hot.

Well that's a shame on both parts gbenjo , we should there about 11-11.30 so skip the carpet patch and we will settle for the pipe band welcome:

Graham,

Celebrity has informed people on our cruise that the Solstice is coming in on Sunday with people on-board with noro-virus and that the OPT will be closed until 1 PM and that each deck has an assigned boarding time starting at 1 PM. Have you heard anything? Is there somewhere to storage luggage?

Thanks, Dave

Yes, unfortunately,we were told that today also, but far better for them to do the thorough sanitising now than letting it go. As far as I know you should still be able to drop your luggage off earlier than 1pm ( baggage drop off normally starts around 8:30 am)so if I were you I would take advantage of the fact that where you are staying is only a five minute walk from the OPT and come down earlier and check it out. Hopefully I will see you sometime tomorrow.

Was on the celebrity century dec 1 to dec 15th.

Looked for gbenjo when we were boarding but no luck.

We arrived about 12.30 by taxi, checked the luggage into the tent, walked to the terminal and were checked in, and on board having lunch in the aqua spa by 1.00pm. Couldn't ask for better than that.

On our return we asked for the latest departure as we had lots of time to fill in prior to our 1pm flight. Left the ship at 8.50 walked straight off with our own luggage, straight to the taxi rank, shared a taxi with our new found friends from Adelaide. Taxi was $70. Had intended to fill in some time at circular quay and then get the train but decided sharing a cab would be easier and about the same price. Good thing we did as it was the day of the martin place tragedy and public transport was shut down.

To anyone worrying about the building works going on don't , this was the fastest embarkation and disembarkation we have had from about 12 cruises out of Sydney.

It seems to be a bit of a time for Noro. We have quite a few people around town that seem to be crook at the moment too. So many people visiting from elsewhere for holidays, things get spread around everywhere.

I notice Solstice has come in forward this time. Doesn't she usually come in reversed?

I had that covered

Thank you Graham, (Gbenjo), my wife and I absolutely loved the welcome and the surprise, it was a great way to start the week and cruise.

For those who do not know, Graham is easily the most authoritative and attractive check-in person at the OPT, our embarkation (check-in with Graham at the later time, around 2.30pm) had no lines and disembarkation was equally seamless and the OPT is working wonderfully well despite the construction around the place.

Thanks again Graham.

cheers Mic:D

Ok Seija..Seeya tomorrow......by the way just a heads up.. I know you normally get on board and then send your other half (apologies ..I have forgotten his name:o:o) to buy "goodies" but customs have just changed the rules and no one is now allowed off the ship again once they have gone through customs and security so if you want to go to the shops, go before boarding.

That happened to friends of ours last week, they checked -in, dropped their bags at their room and then tried to join us at the Ship Inn but were not allowed off. I thought it was to do with the siege but must have other reasons, like the OPT work as well.:D

Just to let all my my loyal followers know....the temporary big white tent at the front of the OPT will no longer exist after the 28th December and the new ground floor area of the terminal will be in use to "marshall" guests before proceeding upstairs for check in (at least for Royal Caribbean and Celebrity..dont know about Carnival). Not clear about the debark just at the moment, it may stay "as is" until the new year. I believe the baggage drop off will still be where it is for now.... but at least we are getting there. The hoardings around the forecourt area will not be removed until February /March, or so I am told.
