Rare ORV Posted December 8, 2014 #1 Share Posted December 8, 2014 Is this new on Oceania or have I just missed it before? Or perhaps it's only in the Caribbean and this was my first time on Oceania in the Caribbean. Just back from a week on Insignia and was surprised to see this push, along with the "recommended" stores in the daily print outs. Really enjoyed the cruise for the most part. roothy123 Posted December 8, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 8, 2014 I wouldn't say it's new, and no, it's not limited to the Caribbean, but it does seem that there's more of it now than there was in the past. Maybe Oceania is trying to appeal to everyone.
no fuss travel Posted December 8, 2014 #4 Share Posted December 8, 2014 I remember blurbs being written in the daily news or sheets of information about where one could shop at a port but I don't remember any lectures before about shopping. Maybe the reason why is that I avoid sailing in the Caribbean.:o
Rare ORV Posted December 8, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted December 8, 2014 I guess most of the itineraries I've been on in the past on Oceania don't stop at ports with Diamonds Int, Del Sol, etc.
Andee Posted December 8, 2014 #6 Share Posted December 8, 2014 On our Caribbean cruise last month, we were delighted that the port lecturer hardly mentioned shopping at all. She was informative about the islands' history and what to do.

Was it Sandy Cares by any chance? She was called the Guest Enrichment lecturer and did a talk on every port. I never went but I saw the rerun on TV in my cabin. She was very interesting - talking about the history and things to see- I never heard any pitch for the usual tourist stores. I was on same cruise as Andee. This was not an Enrichment lecturer, this was a shopping pitch with free swag handed out for those that attended,(not me) and a list of the ship's recommended stores. She also was handing out cards for entries to get free stuff at the stores(in port). She had her own little space set up on the starboard hallway between Martinis & the Casino in more or less a little closet that opened up. Rare cruisingxpert Posted December 9, 2014 #9 Share Posted December 9, 2014 That's interesting. I don't remember seeing anything like that but maybe I was just oblivious to anything I didn't care for lol. We really enjoyed the cruise but I did miss not having La Reserve and Culinary classes. Mura Posted December 10, 2014 #10 Share Posted December 10, 2014 While we are more likely to join in with others on CC for DIY tours, we DO look at these lectures (generally on the in-room TV) just for information about ports where we will be literally on our own. On occasion we do book a ship's tour, but even if we do not the information can be handy. It doesn't offend us even though we usually go around on our own ... We tend NOT to do to the demos in person. Mura
