Teens Allowed?

I have done a few quick searches and haven't found my exact question. My DH and I have cruised once before (without the kids). We leave for NYE cruise on FOS in 2 weeks and are bringing the kids this time! DS is 16 and DD is 13. I've looked at different compasses and see activities specific for "adult only" or "teen/kid/specific age only." What about activities that do not specify? Examples are dancing classes, trivia, name the song/movie type activities. Many of these are held in adult venues but seem family friendly??? Not sure what the kids will want to do but think that some of these would be of interest...are they allowed?

Almost all of those activities you listed the kids would be allowed to attend. A few years ago when my youngest was only 6 months old, she was obviously attached to me and came with us to trivia and other daytime activities. Only restrictions you might find are night time venues. Some of the clubs are closed off to kids under 18 after 10pm. Otherwise during the day they are welcome. We often spent time playing card games in the Viking Crown Lodge with our kiddos during the day and the staff enjoyed seeing them there. :) (we just recently returned from a long cruise with our children ages 1-15 ;) )

Dont think they will be interested in learning how to dance with Mom and Pops.

Maybe let them do their own thing in the designated groups for younger ones !!

Can't bother anwsering answer the question, but quick to tell others how to cruise and what to do:rolleyes:

Your kids will be welcome most anywhere that isn't specified adult only. Our teen loves trivia:)

I would assume anything not labeled "adult only" includes everyone. However, I am hoping my teens (14 & 17) will at least meet us for dinner once in awhile. [emoji16][emoji106] Otherwise I know they plan to hang with the other teens. They have already been messaging one another via connections here on CC. Fun!!

We are sailing on Oasis next week, for Christmas. How fun for you to ring in the new year on the ocean! Enjoy!! [emoji322]

Thanks for the info...

This is the first cruise for DS & DD and not sure what activities they will WANT to do. We have signed up with our roll call and have already found a number of teens that we hope to meet! I've heard from a lot of friends that their kids often don't like the teen activities and so I wanted to know options!

Getting excited! Now if FOS can make it to all ports we'll be good!

Not directly related to your question, but there is a separate Cruise Compass for just the teens which will be dropped off in their cabin each night. There are teen-specific activities which my kids enjoyed.

FYI: the Solarium pool area is for adults only - 16 and up. Other than that - use your discretion unless something is actually forbidden due to legal issues, like the casino - minimum 18 years old, etc.

I am pretty sure the comedy club is restricted to 21+.

Just a heads up if you go to the Love and Marriage Show. They don't restrict it but they do say it contains adult content. My kids have gone for years, but they won't go with us. I think a mature 13yo can handle the topics if you are comfortable with it, but it can be a bit embarrassing with a parent right there with all the sexual innuendos. But every family is different and your kids might be fine.

It's one of DH and my favorite shows and the next day we always talk about it with the kids and laugh at things together - just can't sit next to each during it.:o

I believe it's the *pool* that's adults only. The *area* is open. Especially if the ship has the Park Cafe there. We asked specifically (and read the signs) and it all said the pool was limited, but the area wasn't.

One night we wanted DS to meet a nice couple we had met, and I asked specifically if DS could come into Schooner Bar. Absolutely he could. Especially during the daytime.

The true adult-only areas were marked. Other areas might have hours of limited acceptance of minors, but an open activity won't be in a restricted area.

Hey, there are kids who dance! My son had a BLAST learning to Jive, and he's 10. He loves to dance, and thought it was awesome that he ended up dancing with two women because there weren't enough men. I'm sure he wished they were in their 20s instead of my age, but he still had fun with the dancing.

The chairs and tables around the outside of the Solarium are open to all, but I have seen them ask children under 16 to vacate the loungers around the pool.

Exactly. My daughter likes to dance and I've seen a lot of info about line dacing and other activities.

Yep. I've seen the teen compasses and think there are some things I want to do...wonder if IM restricted? LOL!!! My hope is that they are able to attend most activities they are interested in regardless of which compass it is listed in.
